I understand how you feel StealthBlue, its way more interesting to play with people you know than alone. I usually play with a couple of friends of mine (not from TL) and even a small platoon who plays well can be a huge factor.
I really hope platoon won't be restricted to premium accounts once the game is released. To have to pay to be able to play with your friends is just stupid.

Well, 25K gold is quite a lot tbh.

Fortunately, those are premium packages and we don't have to buy those to actually play the game.
You just won't have the gold and the premium tank.

Yeah generally premium tanks are not that good compared to same tier (some exceptions) but are more used as money/xp-making tanks.

I think mediums are hard to use because they are good all-around, but not specializing in one specific thing; you have to strafe while shooting and circle around heavy tanks. With SPGs/TDs/Heavys and Lights, each of them have a specific role.

The gold cost is cost-prohibitive for me to get premium, though the PZ V/IV looks very good.

Yeah. The server split was a dumb decision imo.
Or they should have made it possible to pick the server every time you're logging in with all your tanks available wherever you play.

So if I were to get back into this, would I want to pick Euro Server or US server? I heard that the US server is basically empty, and that there aren't that many high level tanks to play with.

This is a great game so far. Though, I', having some trouble with the transition from medium to heavy tanks as i seem to either have a tank with a big gun and no armor, or tons of armor and a crappy gun. : /

Agreed, though if you play with the American tanks, Heavies do really suck in that tier, especially the T1 Heavy and the M6, you have to grind until the T29 to get a decent tank.
