Both of these games have just been announced by both Capcom and Namco! Capcom is making SF x Tekken on the SF engine, while Namco is making Tekken x SF on the Tekken engine! This is one of the most exciting news I ever heard when it comes to fighting games! A mash of two brilliant titles! Personally I prefer SF but I will buy both games as I still enjoy Tekken !
Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono had his "Street Fighter IV and Beyond" panel interrupted by Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada today, with the rival fighting game makers joining together to announce a collaboration, Street Fighter X Tekken.
Street Fighter X Tekken was introduced with a teaser trailer featuring Street Fighter's Ryu facing down Tekken's Jin in a pre-rendered sneak peek featuring Street Fighter IV's sketchy, inky visual style. The game, pronounced "Street Fighter cross Tekken" will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Following the announcement, Ono surprised the crowd by holding up a Blu-ray disc with a copy of the game then provided attendees with a playable demo.
Street Fighter X Tekken appears to play like Street Fighter IV, locked onto a 2D plane, with both Tekken and Street Fighter characters performing EX-style super moves. The match started off with Ryu versus Jin Kazama, but Ono and Harada tagged in two more characters, Street Fighter's Chun-li and Tekken's Nina Williams.
Harada followed that playable match with an announcement of his own, confirming that Tekken X Street Fighter is also in development at Namco. That game is rumored to play in the style of Tekken, with contestants fighting in a 3D arena.
Ono said the games won't be out "for a while" and that fighting game fans should enjoy Marvel vs. Capcom 3 while they wait.
Two brilliant titles? To me Tekken died after 3. Can't say much about SF, I'm past 2D fighting games since I found my love in Virtua Fighter some years ago.
Weird. SF x Tekken is SF4-style, while Tekken x SF is Tekken-style - are the games only going to appeal to those respective fanbases, if at all?
SFIV has brought about a mini-renaissance of fighting games recently, but I still think the market isn't ripe enough to support that many games - I have a feeling these games won't meet sales expectations, whatever they are.
Although building off existing engines would presumably reduce the costs of development, and the cross-licensing agreement probably means there's no licensing fee for either company. Will profits be shared or each publisher just takes home the profit from the title their developer creates? I'm guessing no profit sharing, but we'll probably never know.
should of seen this coming after the evo "squabble" Ono and the tekken guy were having. was like two middle school couples flirting with each other on stage lol

Fansites and game news outlets have been talking about this less than a couple days after EVO. It's been speculated since then, and leaked to boot.
I'm optimistic about the prospects. The gameplay styles are wildly different, and it'll be cool to see what Capcom & Namco can do with each other's characters, and as a collaborative team.
Can't wait to play Dan in 3d. kek.
A question to start off the speculation: Which game do you think will be more balanced? I'm going for SFxT, because Capcom is meticulous.
Not surprised by this at all since it was pretty obvious when Karada and Ono were on stage at EVO. Whenever there is a rumor in the fg community, it's usually pretty legit. So many fighting games are coming out that it's insane.
This is a pretty cool theory on the 2 games that was one of the comments on eventhubs.
Something interesting to take note of :
Both Capcom and Namco could take this into completely different directions. The games will probably be too different from SSF4 and Tekken, so they won't interfere, or won't be seen as "SSFIV with new characters". I'm fairly certain that SF x T will NOT have the same characters as T x SF, so it just be a difference in fighting engines,
If you look closely at the new trailer, check the background, 2 things should be interesting: - Ryu is pulling off links he can't do in SSFIV (standing fierce linking with standing roundhouse), I think it will be easier for SF characters to combo in this game, due to Tekken's combo/juggle aspect. - a wrecked Servbot (Capcom) head - another fight in the distance (a little poke at Mortal Kombat? Pit stage reference?)
Story line (which is gonna prove interesting) could be as follows, the "evil" Tekken characters invaded the SF Universe, and are wreaking havoc, which is why we see a busted up Servbot. Kazuya & Nina are considered the "bad" characters of Tekken, along with chars such as Lee, Devil Jin, Heihachi and Bryan, while Ryu & Chun-Li are the good ones in SF. This could be the case for SF x T.
Alternatively, T x SF could have T's good guys (Paul, Law, Asuka, Yoshimitsu) vs SF's bad guys (Bison, Vega, Sagat, Seth, Urien, Balrog, Akuma) who are invading the Namco territory.
Either that or it's my inner fanboy talking, and the Servbot is just coincidence Capcom has a history of backgrounds giving hints about characters & storylines (look at MvsC) Just think about this; there has to be a lot more different between the 2 games except for a difference in engine, because both producers want to make sure THEIR game sells, Namco wants SF fans to pick up their game, and Capcom wants Tekken fans to pick up Capcom's game. They want to establish these games as a seperate project from their regular trademark series, so thinking you can pitch any SF characters vs any T character, doesn't look realistic to me.
Do not expect this game to feature 80-100 characters, I think 35-40 is a realistic number, and the roster will be different for both games, in order to make people pickup both games, win-win for both Capcom & Namco.
Just thinking about loud, not saying I'm right.. but there's a possibility.
For once I'm actually excited about playing the tekken engine >.>
So sad though. It's SF vs Tekken, not SF4 vs Tekken. Hopefully this is just a temporary fix to make it showable, like how mvc3 was so tvc2 looking when they first showed it.
I dont expect much too crazy on the capcom side, but the tekken version should be pretty cool to see. SF chars with no meter management, in a 3d environment, etc etc.
Still way more excited for 3s online, but 2011 is shaping up to be an amazing year for fighters ^^

Seen this elsewhere and it is mostly good news but it gave me a wierd thought. With a crossover this unconventional now I have hope for Starcraft vs Dawn of War
Mmmmm, collaborations!! me likey the new directions of fighting games today.... a new Marvel vs Capcom, SFIV and now this!!! wooot! tuff to choose one now

not sure if i am really going to like this. but ill at least say i like the tag team ultras thou

Strider's 2nd tier, Tron is below that probably, and Megaman is definitely below that too. You might be forgetting Dhalsim and Anakaris, who are somewhat respectable, below Strider I think.
I'm definitely no authority on MvC2 though, so please correct me, anyone who knows better.

I believe each has their ups and downs but the Tekken engine is superior overall imo. However I also believe it is harder to convert characters from Street Fighter's engine to Tekken's than vice versa without severely altering the characters themselves (which in a sense is the game's unique selling point). I'm looking forward to both games but am expecting more from Street Fighter's side.
megaman is better than sim or anakaris on marvel, he actually has an advantage matchup on a magneto on point if mags doesn't have sent drones assist. cammy is quite good as well, and used to see top tier play in place of commando it just became known that commando synergizes with sentinel and storm significantly better.
either way though the marvel comparisons are completely irrelevant because the top tier vs low tiers on marvel is like the gods with infinite potential and possibilities came down and crush these puny apes crawling in the mud, and that will never happen again with a modern game because they are too afraid to make characters as cool as mvc2 top tiers
just something I noticed: why is this art style still the same comicbook-esque style that they used for MVC3? These are two fighting games clashing, not a comic book and fighting game.
Also I find it hilarious that capcom uses megaman as its "symbol" considering how much they've shit on that series as of late.
Huge Tekken fan, Street Fighter is pretty good too.
Looking forward to the Tekken version more than the SF version, but ultimately the places where I see Tekken leading by a large margin aren't relavent to a cross-over like this, I tend to like Tekken characters more though, so that matters. Should be cool.
Definitely like the SF chars waaaaayyyy better than the Tekkan ones (mostly because I can't stand that series and most 3d fighters in general) but similarly to MvC I'll just gladly beat them up with Capcom chars xD

I think you might be misunderstanding. They're two completely different games. SFxT is Capcom's take on a tag fighting game with Tekken and Street Fighter characters and it has a certain playstyle, certain game mechanics, Capcom-style super meters, etc. TxSF hasn't even been started yet and will be a completely different game (probably in a full 3D space like traditional Namco 3D fighting games, and will probably have unique mechanics that SFxT doesn't have).

Oh, ok, I now thought they'd be doing one 2D SF style and one 3D Tekken style game and release them at the same time.
tekken has one of the(if not The) most simple and elegant fighting game mechanism (soul calibur too). i'm loving this news, i'd like to see namco tackle the 2d characters to run on tekken engine, haha.
i wonder if sf vs tk is going to have ewgf, not just wgf, to add little more skill depth. including delay catch, etc. i'm ignorant of sf series...can't input on sf's details. i spent hours and days trying to "master" ewgf on the dpad, i'd hate to see that put to waste lol
is jaycee from ttt2 basically julia chang? thought she was a completely new char, btu her moves looks exactly like julia. she even yells like her too wth
On July 24 2011 11:47 sung_moon wrote: is jaycee from ttt2 basically julia chang? thought she was a completely new char, btu her moves looks exactly like julia. she even yells like her too wth
Yeah they're the same character. Julia isn't on the official TTT2 roster. I guess this is Namco's way of mucking around with the fans just like the younger version of Heihachi.
Man most of these characters need a costume change. They retain their costumes designed for them since Tekken 5/DR.
Only exception is Miguel and JayCee i suppose.
I found it abit stupid how Jin and Devil Jin needs run off screen to tag each other whereas Kazuya and Devil can just transform.
i havent put any serious time into fighters since like tekken 4 which was about 3 - 4 years ago now. does anyone know if it will be released for PC or just console?

No plans for PC right now.
I'm super excited about this game. Looks like it could be amazing.
This is looking really really good. I knew Hugo was big, but he looks so huge here
Thought they were gonna get rid of the Cross Super when they had the Cross Assault, but glad it's back. There's gonna be so many different things you can spend your meter on
man, I was all happy with tekken characters on the SF4 engine but that video...fuck me man that might just be too crazy. All these new things that you can do might just ruin it a bit. I couldn't keep track of all that random Cross fucking going on.
Sure tagging out and carrying the combo is cool and all but...I dunno, maybe that video just made it too hard to track just what the fuck was actually going on.
Bob and Raven are lame. Bob especially, I mean isn't he basically looking identical to Rufus? Swear there better be a Jin involved. Lei would have been cool too but they probably would of had to rip out his entire move set and transplant it due to all of his stances. Would just be too much.
Asuka would have been a nice style to add.
heh you can probably tell who I play with in Tekken
online training mode? yesss I like. been hoping for that feature in a game for a while now, good to see it happening.
though wtf at isuka mode? I guess it's just an extra whatever mode like 2v2's in MK9, but lol. I never though another game would try the isuka thing again.
Sticking with Tekken 6, see no need to use street fighter characters. Also Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is coming soon that will replace Tekken 6 and all other games in tournaments.
really looking forward to this. will be so much fun to figure out my favorit playstyle and fighter combination. well, not much else looking forward to as a pc gamer, but this might really be a very, very good game.
All the videos I've seen so far indicate that this will be a fun game to play. Not a serious tournament game, but that's irrelevant for majority of the playerbase.

No, I get the opposite feeling to be honest. I don't like the direction Capcom fighters have been going these past few years but I will try out this game none the less. Should be fun, won't be buying this right away though...
I used to be a hardcore tekken fan, played alot with friends for years, then i played in a tournament won my first 3 matches got matched against some kind of national champ and he just juggled me all day, 1 hit equaled a 60% of my health gone combo. Became less of a fan after that, juggling isn't very appealing to me so recently got abit into Street Fighter and i'm utterly rubbish at it, still getting used to the damn joystick!
The more i look at this it gets more interesting, that mega man looks to bad ass not to play tho haha

and yea i'm honestly more excited for TekkenxSF over SFxTekken
Fingercramp is doing a short 16 man invitational and FT5 showmatch tonight to demonstrate this game. I'm not too sure what to expect for this game, but it does seem to have potential to be a good fighting game. Stream is just starting at http://www.twitch.tv/fingercramp. Here is the bracket.

Same, although Tekken can be a bit silly at times its still one of the most realistic asian fighting games in terms of proper martial arts moves and so on. Its not over the top fly to the moon and back while landing the most explosive kick of the universe.
Also Tekken Tag 2 is around the corner, there is no need to split the community even more. How many fighting games are out there ? The fighting scene in norway is especially dead. Yeah people play but its very few and spread on soooo many fighting games on 3 freakin consoles. Its a nightmare.
WNF is doing a stream for Street Fighter x Tekken right now, expect top players to be there and what I believe to be the latest build of the game: http://www.twitch.tv/leveluplive
well the game is still ugly as the alpha phase , the difference between the 2 consoles is too huge and the gem system will be a pain for the tournaments...AND capcom wanted more accessibility when street fighter 4 was already the most accessible street fighter ... as SNK is missing about their netcodes ( to bad , kofXIII is the best fighting game out there ) i'll play skullgirls then! coming out the 30th march!
Some of the characters on the Street Fighter side just seem like wasteful additions, for instance Dhalsim? He doesn't seem to fit the flow this game is trying to achieve at all, maybe it's to early to tell but he just seems out of place. Abel also seems like another waste of a character slot. I'm not going to buy this game right away, it seems really fun but also really rushed. I assume they will have everything paned out sometime before Evo especially with the Inclusion of Tournament mode making gem selection much easier.
Can't wait to have sometime with the game though it does seem fun.
gotta say after watching some of the finger cramp and wnf vods of this game, it looks a lot more promising than i originally thought it would be. the system also seems to have a ton more freedom that i thought it would be as well. tekken characters/rolento looks like is where imma be at
edit: lol i actually played isuka at my friends house 2v2. holy fuck that was so bad. hopefully they don't have the alternating planes or w/e like isuka

Actually, Miranda's going to be in the finals, due to the shitty format of this show. I do love the show, but the format for elimination is such a joke..."Pandora mode" to keep the teams even.
Most plausible scenario:
-Team SF pandoras someone out, this is happening tomorrow. -Team SF wins the next team challenge, chooses to go after TastySteve and Josh or Renic destroys him. -Team SF pandoras again. -Finals: surviving SF member vs Miranda. SF member has faced elimination 2-3 times, Miranda has not played a single game outside of getting bodied in team challenges.
A worthy finals, to be sure.
At this point, it doesn't even matter, Bronson/Kor/200yen are out so it's really just between the team SF players to cannibalize each other for 25 large.
At first I thought this game would just be a fun distraction, but I'm starting to feel its going to become the main event wherever it is, it looks really really good. And Cross Assault is just hilarious, at this point though its just free money for whoever wins between josh/renic in a couple days though. Anyone else one of the guys who scream AWKWARD ASSAULT whenever the host shows up? :D
Rofl the pandora elimination is retarded yeah, there is zero benefit to winning the SF vs Tekken elimination because you might as well lose so that next day you can focus just on practicing and not worry about losing the challenge, gaining/losing the setup isn't that important any more.
Either way, today one person gets revived, so new feature!!!!!
WTF Miranda throwing the games and ditching the competition. She says she can't stand being verbally harassed and complained about it on day 4. Why not complain day 1 and be done with it?? I mean they stopped when she asked and if she wasn't so passive aggressive about everything there wouldn't have been any problems... And then fucking over Kor while she is at it.
#TeamSherrysThighs from now on even though she is out.
Also Nerdjosh is my pick to win, but Renic could definitely take it.
I respected Aris trying to motivate his team, bending the rules and cracking some jokes here but he lost my respect when he said that swearing and beeing an asshole was part of the Fighting Game Community. He said that the FGC could never be like the Starcraft community and he didnt want it to be anyway. If beeing an unprofessional jerkoff who doesnt respect women or his enemies is required then i dont want to be part of the FGC.
Dont get me wrong, i dont have a problem with swearing of any kind but disrespecting women constantly or bitching about opponents etc. is just wrong to me.
Whenever i see a video of a tournament in the USA the people are so disrespectful to foreigners it sickens me, just look of a video with Daigo where even the commentators are calling him a bitch and tell him to GTFO of the USA.
Sounds like there are some one frame/tight links in this game.. why did you hate it in SF4? It was a good way to tell a scrubby masher apart from someone who knew there character well
If you aren't good at links you can focus on chain combos more, but I think the game will progress to a more link heavy style.. as they are harder to punish and don't give your opponent as much grey life to recover as chain combos do.

because you either have a quality fightstick or will suck terribly with like 80% of the cast. without that sanwa stuff (or other ridiculously overprized stuff) you will never be able to use plinking, double tapping etc. on a reliable basis. i find that very unfair to casual players.
C'mon do you think it's really that much of a difference? Plenty of good players play SFIV on pad and hit links all day long.. you don't need a top of the range arcade stick for it, though I won't say it won't help your game out.. it definately feels more 'right' to me to play that way.
If you watched alot of the gameplay over the week from Cross Assault, it looks like most bread and butter combos will be 1/2 links into a chain into an EX and so on, which is far less punishing then pulling off for example Cammy combos in SFIV, I think the game will be accessable for casuals as you put it, it really doesn't look anywhere near as execution heavy as SFIV
you can definately buffer moves in this game, for example with Ryu you can do crouching light and hit medium punch like a plink.. if they block all you will get is the crouching light, if it connects you will get the string of crouching punch into medium
So as the psn player list isnt up to date, i figured im just going to ask here: any europeans who are on ps3 and want to do 2v2 and some training and theorycrafting for this game, add me on psn:
As in SF4, you can only cancel linked moves into specials. But in this game you can also cancel chain combos into EX specials, or just chain combo into the launcher, so you don't absolutely need links. They're still very useful, but you can get by without them in lower level play.

thats nice to hear, at least for a noob like me also i am just talking about 1frame links. i feel like 2 frame links you can get to 80+% success with just practicing enough even without plinking/double tabbing. ... but what is a launcher?
