(It's not me in the video) Yes I have played the game twice through now, watched 3 lets plays to the end and various small summary videos. But not a single normal person would be that scared, I'm not saying I'm some crazy badass or something, but this is just so over the top its hilarious. (not in a good way hilarious)

Last night I went down the stairs, entered the sewer zone, looked at the ladder and quit. Tonight I went down the ladder, heard some unreal freaking noise and quit. Having made it this far I thought I could be veteran-like, but I'm not.

Haha, if you want to be even more scared, read the spoiler (it doesn't contain concrete spoilers, just some info that will make you want to play even less :D ): + Show Spoiler + If you just entered the sewers, you're going to experience one of the scariest moments in the game pretty soon ![]()

There's the sword-arm monster standing at the intersection at the end of the sewer. So he just stands there and you have to figure a way around. My first plan was to provoke him by running loudly then have him chase me around the circle (btw, running away when you can't turn around because that will make him catch you for sure and feeling like he's gaining but having no idea really is adrenaline pumping and scary as hell), but that didn't work, so I quit because I always take a break when I die in story games so it feels like I'm not just gaming the system, it's more seamless if you aren't thinking "oh I just died 20 minutes ago, but here I am progressing." So I come back later to try again, this time I drop the rock by accident and he kills me but I don't quit cause I can't just play for 1 minute if I want to play. Then I try again but the monster's behavior is changed on my 2nd spawn and he comes charging around the corner before I even do anything! I thought I just walked too loudly, or something, and I quit again. But it freaked my brain out. Today I come back aware of the possibility that he might just come at me and I mess up the rock again by running too soon after I throw it. Then I try again and 2nd try again he runs at me, I'm momentarily freaked but have him chase me around, but I mess up opening and closing the doors cause I'm so adrenaline juiced and he kills me. Now on the third spawn I go up to the intersection and there's no monster at all. I quit when I saw that cause I thought it was adjusting difficulty and going easy on me and I didn't want that (I wanted to beat the monster cause I was frustrated, needed revenge/satisfaction). Now I realize there might have been another trick, he might have come from somewhere different this time, and that all this variation is probably to keep you on your toes, and it would have been cool to see what's up. Even if he's not there at all, knowing that it will mix up the setup on you keeps even the same part scary. But now I have to quit for the night after just doing that one part so I'm not going on immediately after dying to that monster twice.

If you've not played the demo PLAY IT. Don't put it in the "oh, that looks kinda good, I should get around to playing that sometime" pile - PLAY IT! Videos just don't do it justice, you have to experience it for yourself. I just completed the game recently, and I think I may begin a campaign to try to get everyone I know to play it. I don't know if I would have completed it if it weren't from my wife pressuring me to continue, and to actually load up the game in the first place. I found myself procrastinating and avoiding playing it simply because it is so scary. My wife played a small amount, but she found it too much for her; it made her so tense that her stomach would actually hurt (that was her excuse, at least).

![]() I am currently about to enter the final parts of the storyline. + Show Spoiler + To get the six pieces of the Orb. lol it was funny because I was playing with three other guys, and when we got to Agrippa two of us were like "NO it's a trap he's gonna run out and rape you if you release him, remember the doors in prison and that other place that had nothing in them but monsters" and the other two were like "but it could be a quest and i am a completion/achievement whore!" ![]() I have to say, the Sewer should be the "real" water part. All the posts I see from people (not just here) talking about the first water part being scary hyped me up so hard for the invisible water ninja but in the end that was like the least scary part of the game. Sewers was definitely freaky though, the only part I can say I was legitimately terrified for a split second (the part where you had to lure the monster away - we lured him away and went up the stairs to open the door, and we were opening it slowly when suddenly the fucking thing growls and we turn around and it just rounds the corner and BLARELAERGLAEHRGLHGLG flipped out so hard). Oh and Prison was tons of fun too. Looking forward to Choir, I hear that's the final scare :D

Interacting with the stream in any way would be distracting yourself from the game, whether intentionally (to give yourself a few moments of relief from the game (and yes, sometimes you'll be desperate for this)) or unintentionally. The ideal way to play the game is in pitch black, on your own, with absolutely no distractions. Run it fullscreen, with the sound cranked up loud, and turn off all other applications and monitors etc. And you know that gamma screen where you're asked to tweak the slider until the box is barely visible? The one everyone skips past going "yea yea whatever"? Don't skip past it here. Isolation - just you and the game. Note that this is NOT because (as I believe some others in thread have assumed) the game 'needs' to be played like this in order to be good, but rather the closer you can get your playing environment to the 'ideal', the more the atmosphere and fear is amplified. You just won't be getting the full experience. Of course, that's not always a bad thing, but you should start with the "full" experience then tone it down if you can't handle it. I can happily admit, without embarassment, that I never played without my wife at my side to give me a small relief from the immersion. Anyone who's played through the game will understand :D I don't think I'd have been able to keep going without someone pressuring me to continue.

I couldn't escape from my cell and the shadow ate me. There has to be more though, I'll have to try to escape again later, although I was out of ideas. That can't be the total end.

(not in a good way hilarious) Much of what that guy is screaming out loud is what I was thinking in my head when I was playing the game. When I get scared I get really quiet, usually with an initial "body shake" (for a lack of a better word) and then I freeze. And what the fuck do you mean by "normal" anyway? I've never seen two people react to something the same way, ever.
