with the many many distinct build enabling uniques around, it seems like the idea was that players are supposed to adapt their build to the gears they find, rather than converging on one optimal build and tehreby limiting their gear choice and slow down gear progression. indeed. and while i consider this a nice idea, i think it doesnt work out too well in practice. the current state of the game and trade and drop mechanics simply means that there is a certain percentage of unlucky players that do not find the gear for any "good" or "viable" build for a long long time. hence, those players are forced on inefficient builds that are not fun to play. Yeah, agree. These posts even made me dig up the discussion we had back in November in the RoS thread when they announced no trading. I'd say we were decently on track with the predictions? On November 13 2013 05:53 Cascade wrote:So this means goodbye to third party trading as well, right? It sounds nice, but the "no trading whatsoever" also means that it'll be essentially impossible to plan for a specific build that requires specific (hard to find) items. You have to adapt your build to which legs you find. Which may or may not be a good thing. Although crafting to some extent can make up for this? I still predict a lot of people complaining about wanting to do build X (that happens to be the strongest one for their class) but not finding item Y (that is required for the build) despite having farmed for Z hours. Only 5 pieces of set in one month seems kinda unlucky to me.

I can't imagine continuing to play once I get the items I want. Probably a rift or two, but I'd get bored really quickly. I play a wizard and alternate between a frozen orb and an arcane torrent build. Perfectly viable without any specific items.

I'm sure there were 934754973092 pcs of Blackthorne's to go with those 5 pcs.

How many Blackthornes have people been actually getting?

although i generally like loot 2.0, i am sad that farming with my beefed up wiz doesn't net me good items for other classes, not even WD....

Yeah, I'm also sad that it's very hard to farm for other characters. Prior to Ros, I would use my monk to equip my DH and my Wiz (in HC). Nowadays, I must use the class that needs stuff to farm them. It's not too bad, but still a small anoyance.
Regarding the Blackthorne sets, man I envy all the people complaining of finding it too much. This set is pretty awesome in HC and I only found 2 pieces so far (after nearly 100 hours of gameplay)

Is there a TL clan on EU? Been leveling a crusader and ultimately want to be some kind of blessed shield machine. I mostly play on Americas but I figure having something to do when Americas is down (despite the massive lag that comes with that, as I found out Tuesday rofl) would be cool.
I found out how weird it is to level up starting from nothing, to be honest I guess for a newer player playing on normal the whole way through it's a relatively smooth leveling experience (taking longer to gain levels give more chances for decent at-level gear to drop making nothing a challenge) but I've been bouncing around between normal and elite and the only thing keeping me functional has been lucky legendary weapon drops. 15 levels to go!

As i basically started fresh, you can play directly on hard. I am sure you could play expert, but it isn't worth the hassle. But the 75% extra xp is priceless.

In retrospect I should have done just that. Just cruising through normal bounties so I'll have plenty of fragments ready to rift it forward right after I hit 70 and acquire some toughness.

They're really solid pieces to have while you're waiting for clase specific set items. You just need to roll main stat, which really isn't that hard, and the 2 item set bonus for it is really good, and the 3rd one is not bad if you have Royal Ring. It gets too much shit for what's actually a solid set for all classes.

Yeah for me getting blackthorne's would be perfectly okay, and in fact better than a lot of other items, if not for the fact that I see the amulet or chest drop and inwardly get really excited for a potential Tal Rasha's and then get disappointed.

I'd be alright with junk legendaries dropping as much as they did if legendaries in general dropped more. The current rift-drop rates should be what normal rates are and then increase the current rift drops by 50% or something.
Without the ability to trade, we need a more reasonable way to get them.

Blackthorn amulet is big troll. I don't think it's possible for a good roll on that since it always seems to have IAS and Life% from what I can tell. Both stats are undesirable to most specs. I'm not aggravated enough to salvage it without identifying it but I still don't expect anything when I do.

It really highlights another big disparity, which is that CC/CD still reigns supreme for everyone. Some of the other mods really need to be buffed considerably so CC/CD don't rule every item. +elemental damage is a good start but things like AS and LpS are pretty poor.
