I actually extended 1h+shield versus dual wielding to include 2h weapons, but I suppose that doesn't make much sense logically (it does cognitively in my mind). It's just a natural fallacy that has plagued a lot of games, less so for diablo, but torchlight for instance has a huge problem where 2h weapons are useless because they do just as much damage as 1h, but you can use two 1h...
For a character skilled around using two weapons naturally, dual wielding is optimal, but is there not another build you can play where 1h+shield is more optimal? Using a 1h and shield is better for more of the builds than dual wielding/2hander. I'm pretty sure you can agree with this which is what I was getting at all along. I'm not good at putting it on paper; I am well aware of that.
When I said I hadn't played since 1.09 that is slightly misleading. I haven't been active around the top of the ladder since those days, but I have played casually for a few of the seasons post skill synergy. Not everyone was cheating back then, but if you polled people I bet the vast majority of them were map hacking. There was no reason not to map hack back then unless you had some moral obligation to not do so. Maybe not duping directly, but almost everybody was making use of the duped items just from the nature of trading.

On the list of games I'd consider playing competitively... it wouldn't even be on that list

Gotta agree here, PvP in D2 was a bit of a mess. Hopefully they can make it more solid this time around. It was still pretty fun, however.

I loved Act 4...honestly I hated Act 2...at least the desert part of it, but once you got to tombs or arcane sanctuary it was a lot of fun. Act 3 was also terrible because of those stupid little idiots, but once you got to Kurast Bazzar or w/e it wasn't so bad, and durance of hate was good.
Anywho, I'd rank the acts as follows:
Act 4
Act 1
Act 5
Act 2
Act 3

And about the PvP of D2...I mean blizzard never even tried to balance the PvP aspects of D2...they just threw in a duel feature and that was it. They didn't give two shits about PvP so why should anyone expect it to be balanced.
As for D3, they seem to care a little bit more, but again, it's not their focus. I could care less though, PvP can get old after a while.

Personally i'd put Act 1 above 4, because while Act 4 was the most awesome in terms of location and storyline, it was much too short, especially since you could ignore a large chunk of the first two areas. That combined with the rush of defeating your first end chapter boss.
Other than that, Act 2 had those lightning bugs and the annoying jumping cats, similar to how annoying the imps in Act 5 were, except worse, makes it rank lower.
And Act 3 only had to be itself. True that once you got into Kurast or some of the caves along the way it was better, but that area onwards usually turned out to be the shorter half of the chapter.
And why are people saying dual weapons is worse than 1H + shield? any weapon with life/mana steal outclassed a shield any day... Being stuck shield blocking in PvE sucked, and in PvP you get twice the attacks in, forcing the 1H + shield character to block much more often.
Shields were good for the resistance sockets though, I assume socketing possibilities is the reason for this

Alright, I am going to fire up Diablo 2 after I am done with my exams sometime after together with a friend, I will probbably be rolling an Amazon or a Sorc, However I have never played an Amazon before, does anyone have any usefull tips or builds which I could follow?
I know I could use google and stuff but it seems like alot of people here have extensive knowledge of the game, and I would really like some input. If people feel like I am derailing the D3 thread(and think that they will if they reply) feel free to PM me, if not post away.
