Diablo ≠ WoW. UI and graphics will be improved ten fold over the corse of 10 years, and the gameplay is still compelling to a huge number of fans. kill mobs, collect loot, show off? lol gameplay imo wow is far superior in this respect. d2 is just an item grind fest

Yeah, its an RPG, but its less about story and 'the hero's journey' and more about good old fashioned blowing shit up, which is always fun. Imagine if loot in WoW flew randomly around the place, you levelled up to 20 in like an hour, almost everything gets 1-shot and ALL of your abilities are crazy ass-kicking extravaganzas.

MOAR RANDOMLY GENERATED LOOT. No, seriously. The problem with WoW was always the dearth of good loot. And the fact that the loot wasn't randomly generated so you always had to go to particular places to get certain items. In Diablo you can generate insane rares that are better than artifacts, and they all have their own unique stats so you can customize out your character. edit: To the above posters, I love item grinding, especially if it can be done solo. I *hate* having to run instances with pub nubs in WoW (I never spent enough time on it to be in a good raid guild). And thank god D3 doesn't have healers (I hope). Otherwise it'll turn into "Oh, you're a Witch Doctor? Good. You can be main healer." (referencing this video if you haven't seen it)

Vista should come with the software needed Well I tried running the game in Windows XP Service pack 2 compatibility mode but that didn't work. Anyway, this is kind of off-topic since this thread is about Diablo 3, not Diablo 2. I'll stop derailing ![]() ![]()

I guess you can't stop the casuals these days. The hell is this? Maybe people don't like SC2 because it's not that great of a game right now? That just might be it and it has nothing to do with being casual. I played WoW EXTREMELY hardcore (Im saying crazy 6-8 hours a day..no not proud of it -.-) and as of right now I still would prefer D3 over SC2 simply because while SC2 is good...it's nothing ground breaking and I had always been more addicted to D2 over SC back when I played both an insane amount. Something about D2 just hooked me, the item hunting, the different characters, the skill tree. I just plain liked the game, a lot. You can play the diablo series pretty hardcore lol.

I was actually surprised that they decided to stick to the D2 format with D3 rather than go the MMO/subscription route, which would have certainly made them a lot of money and probably been a well-received successor to WoW. Truth is, though D2 did certainly have it's own flavor that the modern MMO simply doesn't give you. It's a much faster paced game and the item generator was one of the best of all time, producing so many unique items and leading to so many different ways to customize your character. Personally, I do think D3 is going to equal or surpass SC2 in terms of quality and fun. SC2 as it is right now really isn't all that great... We'll see where it goes in the future, but the fact that so many people I know are already bored of it before the game is even released makes me wonder if it will even come close to living up to Brood War's legacy...

I'm almost certain they spend the most time on WoW because it is the most profitable. I wouldnt be suprised if they tried to figure out a way to squeeze some extra cash out of us in Diablo 3 either. Still love Blizzard, have to respect the business aspect of it as always.

Well, Blizzard has said that it will NOT be subscription based and Blizzard has said that it will NOT be modable, meaning no "marketplace". I don't know what else they could do to work a profit out of it past the game sale, but the Activision bit of ActivisionBlizzard is very creative in thinking of ways to profit from the game after purchase.

Also, to those comparing D2 to WoW: One is an ARPG, the other is an MMORPG. That alone makes them different games entirely.

I thought Enigma was broken, just as a few other items were - taking away things unique to one class and bringing it to everyone. I'd rather that everything like that just gave different class-specific bonuses depending on the user of the item/runeword. Anyways, D2:LoD was Serious Sam to WoW's Half Life - you can make a solid case that WoW is better, but there's just no replacement for shredding through giant hordes of enemies.

I hated runewords with a passion. They broke the fucking game, fucked the gameplay sideways. Runewords like Enigma, HotO, Insight and other just ruined the game on so many levels.

IMO the best part of d2 was building chars exactly like you wanted to, which opened up soooo many oddball characters and builds. I'm confidant that this will return once they got to balancing the different characters against each other. And for those of you who don't know about Enigma, it's a runeword that can get you items like this: ![]()
