The more I think about it, the more I think capping games at 4 players is a great idea, because frankly most of the players won't be aware of their own self interest. Why give them the freedom to create 8 player games when they will keep doing it even though 8 player co-op is aweful.

What in the world would posess someone to think that skill trees lowers replay value? Maybe the d3 demons are already beastin' it. What I wrote was specifically referring to the option to *reset* your skill point distribution, not the skill trees as such ![]() Longer explanation of my views on this below. + Show Spoiler + We are on the same page though in terms of the reaction, as stated I don't see this as a limiting factor at all myself. Some people apparently do though, but I'd still say it's better than making a mistake at a crucial stage of your skill development, essentially resulting in a forced re-roll and playing through the same content you just did with the same class all over. Sounds more like repetition than replay value to me, but each to their own. Whereas the option to skill differently when you are already at the highest level is adding replay value, since it most likely will force you to grab new shinies, charms, runes and whatnot else to bring the character to it's highest potential in whatever area you decided to change it's focus to. E.g. a more defensively focussed Barbarian will have to re-tune his character to fill his new berserking role better - or to accomodate for a more PvP centric playstyle. So long story short, I think the option to reset your skill trees opens more paths to having fun with your character instead of limiting your choices and gameplay experience.

The more I think about it, the more I think capping games at 4 players is a great idea, because frankly most of the players won't be aware of their own self interest. Why give them the freedom to create 8 player games when they will keep doing it even though 8 player co-op is aweful. This. To be fair, I've never played with 7 friends whom I all knew, just joined some random game with 7 people. There isn't much strategy or anything involved with that many people, I don't even try to pick up loot unless it's right next to me. A full 8 player game usually just steamroll the whole game, everyone spamming whatever they have. D3 is not as fast paced than D2 by the looks of it though, so it could be a different experience, but I doubt it. Capping max players at 4 is fine for me, but the option to be 8 wouldn't hurt I guess. EDIT: About skill resets. If Blizzard keeps going the same direction they did with Starcraft 2, it means we will have one account each with probably fewer character slots than in D2. I don't want to have to remove a character to make room for a new one with a different skill set.

The current statement we have regarding character slots (unless I missed something in the meantime) is that it's going to be "more than 10 and less than 50". Join the speculation about the final number, I've settled for a mildly optimistic 25 slots ![]() Applying the SC2 approach wouldn't be practical nor reasonable for a game like Diablo, they differ far too much in the character / account department.

Edit: I guess people are going to try all of them, or at least several. But for the sake of the poll, based on what you saw in the trailers and gameplay previews, which appeals to you the most? Poll: What character will you play in D3? Monk (18) Barbarian (15) Witch Doctor (15) Wizard (15) Demon Hunter (14) I'll wait to see what characters the expansion has (2) 79 total votes Your vote: What character will you play in D3? If I have to pick one, I'd probably chose a Barbarian again as first class. Then it gets tricky already, I just can't decide. Most likely I'll end up playing a bit of each at the start to get at least a basic feeling for all classes, then make a pick based on that and what my stomach tells me.

I'm kind of neutral on the max players per game issue. I agree with people who say that it wasn't interesting to have 8 players in a game in diablo 2. Most of the time there was - it was trading, dueling, or runs of some sort. I'll agree with the sentiment that it wasn't fun to go through the acts with 7 other people. Also personally, I probably won't be playing with random people very much - just friends so having 8 or more players doesn't matter to me. However, I feel that 4 is a bit too low of a number. I feel like you should at least be able to have one of each class in a game.

Diablo 2 was just around the time when me and my friends started upgrading our shitty modem connections to broadband. Oh the glory of staying online as long as you want and not having to worry about how much it'll cost you :D I really hope they have ALOT more varied armor looks than in Diablo 2. In Diablo 2 it became kind of boring to see different kind of armor generating the exact same look on your character. Sure dyes will help that, but I just want the actual texture shapes to have endless variations :>

I just hope they do the system well - I've played games that generate some AWEFUL looking armor. Yeah, my parents first switched over to cable when my sister and I ran up 150 hours on starcraft in one month lol. All those 56k providers back in the day would say you had unlimited internet, then threaten to shut it down if you used too much. Was so nice so switch over to broadband.

Eh they will probably have recolors of armor like they did with WoW, which is disappointing. As long as the armor has the "Diablo-esque" depressing/dark feeling I don't mind. ![]()

I'm putting my money on the armor looking cool and leaving it at that. Lets see how this goes

I don't want to have to remove a character to make room for a new one with a different skill set. i played thousands of hours from release of d2 to 1.11 in lod. The only reason 8 player games were cool were for duelling tourneys. If you knew where to search you could easily find some sites with duelling ladders. "Private" pub games (like palapk in .09) were some of the most fun i ever had. The other time where i thought 8 player games were useful was when i was racing for #1 in ladder 2(i think) where me and my 7 other team members were top 8 until i stopped around level 91 because i was bored of doing it. D3 won't have that kind of awesomeness. Torchlight 2 will be better than d3 im about 90% sure about that. I can't trust blizzard for quality anymore since bnet 2.0.

That's why Blizzard is saying they're just gonna leave it at that for the most part. They'll balance it a little bit, but it will mostly be up to the players to figure out what is good and how to use it in PvP. I agree with that decision too, since it will free up more time for Blizzard to continue developing PvM content, which is really what the series is all about. XD EDIT: And as for people who STILL make the comparison between D3 and WoW, I have to ask: Have you played Diablo 2, and have you played WoW? D3 doesn't seem similar to WoW at all.
