He also told me that the characters can be any class if they pick up a weapon that the class uses. Can anyone confirm? Yes you can be any class you want, but I believe you'll have to level it back up. So if you're a lvl 15 warrior and decide to equip a wand to go mage, you'll start off basically as a lvl 1 mage (you'll have a few universal lvl 15 abilities, but your offense magic spells will just be lvl 1s). The stuff below is Square's official explanation of how things work. "In FINAL FANTASY XIV, a player’s class is determined by the arm or tool in his/her hand. The class chosen during character creation simply determines the items a player begins the game with. Players can change their class at any time by simply equipping different items they purchase, find, or create. Physical Levels and Skill Ranks In FINAL FANTASY XIV, a character’s progress is measured in two ways. Physical levels represent one’s actual physical development, while skill ranks measure how adept one is with various arms and tools. - Physical Levels Characters gain physical levels by accumulating a certain amount of experience points. - Skill Ranks Skill ranks are gained by accumulating skill points from various endeavors, such as combat or crafting. As a character’s skill rank increases, they will learn new actions, such as abilities and weapon skills."

He also told me that the characters can be any class if they pick up a weapon that the class uses. Can anyone confirm? The solo'ing part is not true. It was in FFXI, but not so in FFXIV. The primary system in place to level is the Guildleve system which can be set to a difficulty level depending on how many players you're with or perhaps how skilled you are. Characters can switch classes at any time by re-equipping different weapons, eg. level your Gladiator to 15 (the actual leveling system is directly related to weapon skill, but this is for simplicity), then switch the sword out for a spear and hey presto, you're a level 1 Lancer. Of course you can switch back to Gladiator and will retain your level 15 status. To sum up, one character is all you need. This in my opinion, along with global servers, was what made FFXI a stand out game as it really made your character feel like part of you after playing for a few years :D

Controls still aren't very friendly unless you played FF XI online. Graphics are very pretty, combat more interesting than FF XI...

I'm going to upgrade just for this game if I have enough time to play... otherwise I might have to stick with SC2. And yes, I heard that soloing is supposed to be impossible. I think that this is an attempt to appeal to the World of Warcraft player base, who largely enjoy characters that can do more than one thing... but this might end up being a bad thing if it isn't designed correctly, since FFXI was relied heavily on people being able to do their job, I'm sure FFXIV will be similar. Mixed classes can either turn out to be a really good thing or a horrible thing. On a side note, if you want to test out whether your system can run FFXIV, they just released a benchmarker recently: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/na/index.html

And yeah, it pissed my off too ^^;

I loved how party oriented the game was in FFXI. I also really liked the "slow" combat and how mobs all took a long time to die. I don't see the appeal of constantly having to hit buttons and move to new mobs. Spamming the same button isn't fun ![]() I honestly can't wait to try this game. FFXIV and SW:OTR should both be pretty amazing.

I ending up having to control the camera with the I,J,K,L keys, but even then it was still crappy. Seems like they haven't optimized this for PC yet, since I think the analog stick on the PS3 would have controlled the camera relatively well. I'm probably gonna skip the rest of the play dates until the camera is fixed. The PC interface in FFXI was practically unusable too. Most people just used a gamepad to play considering the game was designed for the PS2. I wouldn't be surprised if FFXIV follows suit.

Got a score of 3,580 at high res and 3890 at low res. OC the video card didn't boost score by much. Seems the game is not GPU intensive but reliant on a beefy CPU. As expected given its engine is designed for PS3 which has a very powerful cpu but weak gpu.

Ive always found the combat system to be a little bland. Some classes didnt have alot of abilities forcing many of them to set themselves apart with expensive gear rather then being the better player. Certain aspects like the economy can be very hard to get into for starters too which can make the game unforgiving for players who were unable to purchase the best of the best gear they need to set themselves apart from others. What i also disliked wasnt the grouping up part itself but the fact there wasnt much incentive to do so other then grinding a particular mobs for hours on end to level up. (And for some classes it could take hours before getting a group to boot). A skill driven level up system doesnt seem to change that. Particularly if skilling up works similar to how it did in FFXI. I can remember grinding for hours in a skillup group just to cap a secondary weapon usually gaining no more then a few decimals an hour. Most of my fond memory's come from the relatively friendly and mature community (particulatly when compared to WoW which i started playing afterwards). But without the combat getting a little more dynamic and the advancement system getting a little more diverse i dont see myself picking up FFXIV in its current state just for the fond memory's.

However, i have a hard time finding information about FFXiV, does anyone can enlighten me about the difference between let's WoW PvE and FFXIV PvE? I have heard that FF would be more hardcore than WoW (which is fine for me), is that true? (
