I could be wrong, but I sincerely doubt that most reviewers really know enough about Civ to review it properly. i concur. even the one low review it got seemed like it was written by someone who doesnt like civ in general. "civilization 5 sucks because you fill buckets by doing actions and press next turn. also, i am not going to bother with culture and diplomacy revamp because i had a ton of money and was spamming cities because i playo n chieftan"

Couple of things I would have liked from Civ IV: more leaders, and cottages instead of trade posts because I thought they looked cooler and they way they grow as your empire grew. Although honestly Civ 5 has so many civs in it now and some of them end up being kind of mediocre -- Denmark!

http://venturebeat.com/2013/07/08/civilization-v-brave-new-world-review/ my favorite part is that he gave Gods and Kings a 65...so Brave New World is 'worse' I dont know why people who dont like turn based strategies go and review them.

Their UU are a longsword replacement that sucks because all pre rifle non ranged units suck and a Norwegian rifle guy who is only good in hills and stuff.

Great unit with no longevity. But a nice unit if you can rush to it.

When you pay gold to buy city states a la Austria, you are given the option to annex, and in many cases ought to. With Venice, that isn't even an option, requiring a rather different play style.
