2) you can buy buildings with gold in puppets, puppeting is less offensive to the ai than annexing, also less happiness hit
3) if on a map with reasonable seas, their UU is actually good because it has both a ranged and melle attack so they can take cities
4) flavor
5) You can puppet 3 city states in under 100 turns with a liberty opener for venice (not saying you should, but you could) which actually in a game where gold is a premium that cancels the 4 city tradition NC start will give you a bigger empire sooner.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but if I don't have expansion2 is there a way I can download it now, or do I have to wait till unlock?

I think it will download to you when the game unlocks. As I believe the original reason why I have it was that Steam screwed up and sent the expension files out along with the patch -- so if you were online as soon as the patch went live and before Steam undid its error you got the expansion files.

are you sure that just doesnt show all the available DLCs to purchase? because I have some things in that list that I know I dont own -- like some of the map packs i didnt bother buying.

click on woody's image that he has hidden. It shows BNW because he pre-ordered it but in there is no Expnasion2 in his game files on his hard drive.
