You will unlock a couple NPCs in town that can either recover gems and destroy the item or smash the gems so you can resocket an item. You can leap frog your gems fairly easily so long as you don't mind destroying the items you put it in.

I believe this gem is a random drop from the mosntrous shrine crab boss.

for outlander, mana steal/life steal don't work on skills, but %proc effects do. not sure if it's different for beserker.

Is there a good way to get a %lifesteal gem? I had one once, but I can't find it in my stash so I think I smashed it. Flat steal is simply unseeable in my current state, although it should be fairly simple to test mana. Making the assumption that they both work or don't work could be a stretch though.

If that is the case then it definitely does, but I'm not entirely sold on that fact.

Ravage does not grant mana steal. Wolfstrike also does not grant mana steal. Eviscerate does grant mana steal though. Not using any other skills so hard to test at the moment. Stealing mana is pretty meaningless though as Battle Standard grants infinite mana once you get it the tier one bonus. If you want to extrapolate these effects to life steal as well I could see it working the same way.

That's pretty good info for lower leveled Zerkers; you can slot up a few manasteal gems and Eviscerate forever. Same with lifesteal if you're trying to survive a bit more.

I only use it for the bleed DoT personally (and it's a decent AoE early on I guess if you're using a claw). Seem to get more overall damage by applying the dot and then auto attacking if you're using a fast weapon as the casting animations for most of the beserker spells really blow.

Yeah I hear you; I was pretty excited to use Raze, until I realized my Zerker wanted to spend 2 seconds flipping a table x.x

What has been your guys' experience with Multiplayer? Personally, I've been pleasantly surprised with the amount of good games I've had with complete randoms. I played a few sessions with TL people, but when I have no friends on or anything I just jump into a random lobby and I haven't had a bad time so far. People always mannered, usually decent at the game, and some amount of trading going on. Having a 3+ person lobby in Elite gets really intense, and as long as people are well geared, you can take down just about anything with stacking party skills. I realize now why Torchlight 1 didn't click with me as much as Torchlight 2 is now; I really like the social elements in games.

So I used the console to get my necklace back that was lost because of steam cloud not saving... I had used it already because of respeccing anyway...

The item was just too good not to get back. When I check the torchlight 2 armory there is no neck that seem to come close in the amount of fire damage it gives (+50%).

Been messing around with the console a bit, testing things out for my cannoneer.
  • If a weapon has Physical/Magical damage, both Focus and Strength increase its damage. Strength increases it's damage much more than Focus (even if the weapon has a higher amount of magic damage, like this one).

  • If a weapon has only Magical damage, both Focus and Strength increase its damage, at a similar rate.

  • Spells that only say something like "XX Physical Damage" or "Inflicts XX% of your Weapon DPS", with no mention of an element, are not affected by Focus at all.

To clarify since you went 90% of the way already-
Strength increases all weapon damage, focus increases only magic damage on weapons (but it increases skill damage).
Spells that say inflicts XX% of weapon DPS get a bonus from strength (since str affects all weapon damage) and focus for the weapon DPS that is magical (side-effect, XX% of Weapon DPS as X is full bonuses from both str/foc).

Good detective work! :D

As for eviscerate, if it's leeching mana I think that's a bug. The random level of eviscerate I have doesn't leech. There's only 2 skills I think that can leech and they're tier bonuses on skills you wouldn't really use purely offensively.

As for the Berserker flag mana, that's a bug and will be fixed next patch so you'd better be prepared!!

There's a fix in testing now regarding the multiplayer dropping/crashing when zoning type events. Sorry bout that!

Don't feel bad about it; you did what you had to do. Not like you're abusing or anything, not like I did testing a million different things through console :p

@Tiamat: Hi!! I love the game you guys have made. Just had 2 questions:

When I was using console to warp to different maps/spawn weapons+units, sometimes my game would freeze in a weird way. I could still hover over NPCs, but I couldn't move, had no minimap, and this extended to my other characters who hadn't used any console commands. It was fixed when I un-enabled console, but was pretty strange, not just a standard crash. Is this just an overload of the system that's to be expected when using console, or a bug of some sorts?

Also, when in multiplayer, I've found that if you kill off a boss for a quest when someone in the party isn't in the same room, that boss is dead forever unless the world is rerolled. This mostly comes up when someone dies, respawns, and the boss is killed while they are still in town. Is this intentional, or will there be a fix of some sorts for it?

Thanks for all the work you guys do ^^

It's a better game in my opinion, much more classic arpg feel to it than D3, but don't take my word for it, just download the free demo , get your hands on it and play around. If you like it just purchase and if not then no loss for you.

it feels better. Its very close to diablo 2 and sacred, it really has the ARPG feel.
And the devs seem to not hate FUN builds people create, unlike blizzard who tried to balance D3 as if it was an mmo. (well they had to because of the real money business going on)

The downside of this game is that it does not have a controlled server-side enviroment, so the drive to collect all the items to be the local hero in internet games is lost a bit.

Since this is the TL2 thread, I think most people here would be a bit biased against d3 :p I actually enjoyed D3 quite a bit, so I'll give you a short comparison of the two games. Note: I reached A3 of D3 Inferno, but am only lvl51/100 in TL2.

Diablo 3
+Combat system a joy to play with. Combat is very fluid and responsive.
+Skill runes and easy respec means experimenting with different builds is very easy.
+A very large community, with a large supply of theory crafting, items, and discussion.
+Blizzard has shown that it's committed to balancing the classes (1.4 updates trying to make WD better, legendaries, etc)

~Atmosphere is very dark, graphics are very realistic. Down to your preference.
~Auction house, very controversial. Most dislike how it cheapens the equipment gaining process; if you don't mind the fact that the vast majority of gear you loot will be inferior to what you can buy, AH is convenient.

-Difficulty is implemented in a very frustrating manner; dying to Jailer/Molten/Invulnerable/Mortar is never, ever fun.
-Gear is hilariously boring for the most part. Only recently has legendary gear gained interesting affixes, before it was simply hunting for that +20 all resist boost.
-If you want to be optimal in Inferno, there are only 2-3 viable builds per class.

Torchlight 2
+Variable difficulty system implemented very well. I main on Elite because I like the toughness, but I can also play on Normal with my friends and faceroll everything.
+Loot system a joy to have. You can assemble sets around lvl10-12 with pretty neat affixs. You can get Uniques with awesome procs at any point in the leveling process. You can get good gear at any of the difficulties. There are multiple unique socketable effects. The fact that requirements are either by Level, or a certain amount of Attributes is neat.
+Multiple builds viable for each class. You can be full tank sword+board engy, Cannoneer, DPS/AOE engy, etc.
+Completely randomized dungeons. Playthroughs never get stale, as long as you enjoy your build.
+Mods.

~Atmosphere is cartoony and light. Once again down to preference.
~Story is very very thin; you'll only really care about it if Alchemist was your homeboy in Torchlight 1.
~No respecs. A controversial topic; I just use respec potions to get around it :x

-Combat can be a little stiff at times, do to the lack of animation canceling. Not the biggest deal, some people hate it.
-Small community, means finding "optimal" builds difficult.
-Balanced PvP is not planned.

My personal, biased take on the two games is that while Diablo was flashy and cool, it was frustrating frustrating frustrating. Torchlight is game that you can make your own and have fun with in any way you want. So you hear that the best build on Outlander is Glaive Spam? Screw that, go dual pistols max strength. Hear that Fire tree is best for mages? Whatever, max ice because you feel like it. And with the way Torchlight is designed, you can get the gear and the skills to make whatever build you want viable, as long as you theorycraft it well.
