Hey guys if you could help pl0x, I was wondering what you guys think these instruments are: + Show Spoiler +
What's the part playing the melody at 0:57-1:10? It plays the melody whenever the trumpet isn't. It sounds closest to piano but it doesn't sound like it. At least the trumpet sounds LIKE a trumpet.
Also the repetitive bouncy part, like at 0:05-0:07. It doesn't sound like anything Guitar??
If you listen to the MIDI version though, it sounds very different (and the instrumentation seems to change too...) + Show Spoiler +
For example, the high chord at the beginning in the original at 0:07 sounds like nothing really. Maybe flute. The same voice that plays this plays the high part at 0:53 as well and sounds a lot like a sort of flute. But in this MIDI, it sounds like a trumpet.

Thanks a LOT for any opinions!
Isn't it just a synthesizer? I know ZUN uses a program called Cubase SX to compose the Touhou games' music, and from what I've seen of the program, it looks like most of the possible sounds (well, the ones that would be similar to the ones you point out) can probably be done with either the synthesizer or the motion pads tool.
It's not like ZUN is using real instruments. He's just mimicking some of the sounds with Cubase.
Cubase is [part of] a digital audio workstation (DAW)
whatever virtual instrument plugin (VST) he uses is used to voice the instruments
if you're going to try to arrange something for performance, stop and realize that ZUN doesn't think in terms of chamber music instruments and just does whatever he feels like el oh el
0:57 - the piano is probably doubled with a malleted instrument like a xylo; can't put my finger on it yet 0:07 - high note is a synth trumpet glissando (maybe a pad, I dunno); a flute glissando would sound too piercing 0:05 - the background accompaniment is a synth instrument - possibly an electric guitar as the base, but doesn't matter too much (EDIT: maybe a clavinet actually?)
instrumentation is something like: percussion - basic drumkit, maybe extra stuff for brushes and other color modified piano trumpets clavinet?

Guess we're just not gonna xD. We're gonna cover the bouncy baseline though, I think that should be enough. (Either with bass guitar, keyboard/piano, or trombone)

God, I know I've posted this here before, but I'm so in love with this song. C-CLAYS doesn't have outstanding songs all the time, but when they do, they're fucking OUTSTANDING. <3
Hmm the new game is Touhou 14 or 13.x? Cus it has a lot of old characters?
Also, ZUN is actually good at drawing. There's an interview subbed in spanish posted here a bit back showing him draw in real time. Though the drawings above look to be digital, so they are probably drawn by someone else kekek.
So I wanna ask you guys here something here. My sister has some vocaloid CDs that she got from conventions in Japan that are not in their shrink wrap. She wants to know if she had touhou CDs like that, would people buy them or not.
I told her people won't, but she wants other people's opinions so
