Those were just growing pains of a girl group renaissance though (spearheaded by snsd and wonder girls).
In the mezamashi vid, that style is the closest i've seen to "old fany" since the super smoky/heavy makeup trend in RDR and hoot, and she's always had a big nose that bulges at the tip. It's weird though, because usually they wear a lot more makeup in Japan broadcasts. We're never going to see a return to ITNW appearance because 1) they wore almost no makeup as part of their fresh teenage image 2) people's appearances change as they mature. I don't know what age everyone here is but I changed dramatically from high school to uni. Imo taeyeon has changed the most even from Gee to the present, but a big part of that is probably her makeup (changing from cherubic to more mature in style). Seohyun is a close second from tons of baby fat -> more sculpted defined face (still got lots of baby fat though). On that note, losing/gaining weight also has a big effect. Jessica was positively plump in japanese Gee compared to her extreme skinniness in TMYW, and Tiffany's weight change is loltastic at times.
I wish people would try to come to their own conclusions instead of parroting the cynicism of a few diehard snsd haters (who admittedly do bring some flavour to the thread).
Anyways I don't even know why we keep on going on about physical appearance when honestly, most kpop stars fall flat when compared to models or actresses. The core appeal of snsd has always been a bunch of girls dancing in sync to catchy music, so how about we dissect them on those grounds instead.
Dismissing comments about how Sooyoung and Tiffany's appearances have changed dramatically and in seemingly unnatural ways as "antifan sentiment" isn't anymore convincing than the comments you're complaining about. While it's true that there are a lot of people who hate on SNSD for no good reason, that doesn't mean every person who criticizes them or suggests that they got plastic surgery is one of them. Personally, I am actually a fan of their music and performances, but that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore what is immediately apparent and obvious, i.e. that Sooyoung and Tiffany's faces changed suddenly, dramatically and (in my opinion) for the worse.
I agree that Tiffany seems to get an undeserved amount of hate from people for her appearance, but that doesn't change the fact that something happened to her face that wasn't natural. While I'm certainly no cosmetic or plastic surgery expert, I've seen enough pre-"something" (since "surgery" seems to invoke anger) pictures and performances from back when Tiffany's face looked more natural and had a certain charm to it to recognize the dramatic change that occurred right when the surgery accusations were going around. The changes were too dramatic and sudden to be natural, i.e. loss of baby fat, different makeup, and certain parts of her face even seem to move (or not move) like they did just before the incident.
Sooyoung's changes are even more dramatic in my opinion. While she was rarely discussed as amongst the more attractive members of SNSD, I always liked her for her personality and wit during talk shows, and thought she was attractive in her own way. As with Tiffany, there was a very sudden and dramatic change in Sooyoung's face right when surgery accusations started floating around, and it was quite apparent that something had been done to her. Her smile was completely different and, like Tiffany, certain parts of her face just don't move the same way anymore. What I once considered to be one of her charms, i.e. her smile and laugh, suddenly became something that made me cringe as it looked so odd and unnatural.
Again, I'm not a cosmetic or plastic surgery expert, or even a SNSD expert, but it doesn't take one to notice that something fairly significant happened to both Sooyoung and Tiffany's faces over the past year. While I can't pinpoint exactly where all the changes are, I can say with confidence that the changes make the way they talk, smile and laugh very different from how they did so before. None of this has anything to do with "hating" on SNSD or being an "anti", and everything to do with the fact that I saw a lot of pictures and clips of SNSD before the changes and quite a few after, and observed significant changes which were, in my opinion, for the worse. While some people like to point to the changes as a means to tear SNSD down and talk about how they represent everything that is wrong with Kpop and idols, I only point them out in disappointment.
Bottom line, just because an opinion is negative about SNSD, doesn't mean that it derives from blind hatred. Just because an observation mirrors that of popular opinion, doesn't make it automatically the result of conformity and a mob mentality. Just because something is repeated by many people, doesn't mean that every person is "parroting" others and not reaching the conclusion on their own.
Lastly, with regards to your comment about sticking to discussion about SNSD's "core appeal", I would disagree as to what you believe it to be. Their appeal wasn't and isn't just about being a group of girls singing and dancing to catchy music, as there are plenty of girls who can do that. In addition to that, a lot of what made them stand out amongst the rest is the way they were marketed (brilliantly I must say). For better or worse, a lot of that marketing focused on their appearance and their appeal to the male population, both young and old. A lot of their fans like them for their appearance and the cutesy mannerisms they were taught and encouraged to use. But what is used to promote them will also be used to tear them down, which is why there's so much focus on their physical appearance. So, while I would prefer that there was more emphasis on various kpop artists' performances and singing/dancing abilities, the fact is that their looks are always going to be a point of emphasis because it's a large part of their popularity and success.
This whole SNSD plastic surgery talk is so 2007. They have always been suspect of it and have had people deny it. A lot of it is nose surgery from what I've seen. I don't see the big deal really.

Seems a fair assessment IMO, agree with the part you said about their looks being used to tear them down as it is wat built them up too. Just a few things: 1) I dunno how fickle their fan-base in Korea is, but once you "get to know" these girls they seem to hold this magic spell over you which makes us support them (even if they look like Park Bom.Lol.)!
2)Tiffany (and also the others too an extent) in that Japanese show has used make-up to look a little more Japanese. Its a very slight difference regarding the make-up used around the nose and eyes and also the hairstyle; this makes her face look a little gaunter and longer and more sharply defined in terms of features. Its a very subtle change that I think can be appreciated by people who are accustomed to looking at Japanese! No question that I like my Fany with the dark hair and so was really happy to see that interview, especially after not seeing her for soo long.
3)I agree with you about Soo's smile being a li'l disconcerting. Hoping its something thats only temporary. Shes my favorite after Sunny and Fany.
4)Platic cosmetic surgery is an accepted institution in South Korea, with almost 70-90% of Teenage girls getting stuff done. And the surgeons there have reached a very high deree of proficiency, unmatched almost anywhere else in Asia. They even do something called "Aegyo-surgery!LOLOL. Personally I see nothing wrong in it. Its just like doing other artificial cosmetic things imo, like wearing dental braces or getting a facial bleach. I'm just happy the breast-augmentation rush hasn't caught on there yet!! I know I wouldnt want a Korean Heidi Montag!! So all-in-all, Hoot Hoot Hoot!

Please provide sources if you're going to make claims like this.

http://www.seoulstyle.com/art_plasticFantastic.htm I would be more right in saying the range is 50-80%, I guess. The problem with statistics is that the number of illegal/"street-side" cosmetic procedures is not taken into consideration. In Korea, a woman at a local spa or massage clinic can offer to do cosmetic surgery for you for much cheaper. Also the range is wide because the rate varies from district to district. In the Yeoksamdong district of Seoul for example the rate is supposed to be the highest. Just google -Plastic surgery Korea- and you will see how common-place it is to get it done there.
jaedong rocks my world! hahaha so full of lol love it! lots of karakoe skillz (probably fixed and tuned like all K-pop) Jinro should make a kpop vid! hahahhaaha
I just googled Taengoo. It is not often that I see a woman whom I might consider to be the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, but Taeyeon is by far the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. So much so that i don't think I can ever be happy in a committed relationship, on account of my spending every moment imagining my gf is as pretty. The remainder of my life is to be but pure sadness. I am now but a husk of a man. Taeyeon has taken my heart, my sensibilities, my very soul. Today was the day I died.
(Is there any way to retrieve my life from her angelic hands? Is this really the end?)
