The premise is actually interesting. A traveling merchant, by circumstances, picks up a hitch-hiker, who's a human-form of an ancient giant wolf. He's trying to get her "home," where she hasn't been in centuries, because she'd made a promise to a descendant of the village she'd been residing in, that she would give their land blessings in exchange for reverance. As time passes, human technology and such advances, and obviously the original legends have worn away by time. She couldn't leave because she's stuck to the wheat she's blessing, though, so he carries a small pouch, to be a roaming anchor, of sorts. Along the way she passes on her wits and intellect to help him in his merchant endeavors.
The first season, to this end, was pretty nice. There was a nice mix of intelligent dialog as befitting a wise sage and a young man she thoroughly enjoys teasing, with a lot of debate about economics, such as abusing the minting of coin, etc.
However the reason why I began to dislike it heavily is because there began to be a massive romance element that was gradually overshadowing the premise that was interesting in the first place. I'm sure some people liked Horo being pouty and such, with a lot of melodrama. Personally, thanks but no thanks.

Thanks for all the information. I can definitely understand your reasoning and I would probably end up the same way as you. So, despite that, would you recommend it to me?
btw: The way the anime shifts...it reminds me of Shakugan no Shana.

I liked it, except for the blatant shounen dialogue and encouragement which occurred frequently. I know it has to be like that, but it feels sillier and sillier each time they come back from hopelessness into an invincible moment of strength in the blink of an eye. It's embarrassing...
But if I just write that it sounds a bit harsh, I mean overall the entertainment was pretty good and kick-ass, it slowed down a bit too much toward the end but at least it kept you glued with plot turns and suspense moments to make you wait for the next episode.
And Bones doesn't seem too bad at making 'fillers'. I remember when I watched the original FMA I couldn't differ between the 'real' stories and the ones that didn't exist in the manga. I thought they weaved it in well.
I actually felt the same way, but I kinda overlooked it, since it's so common. + Show Spoiler +

speaking of AMV, I was wondering what's the hype behind all of it? I mean ehh, basically it's edited clips from an anime coordinated to some song right?
what's so amazing about that? I just don't see it (sorry if it sounds rude I'm not trying to be, I just don't understand why people go batshit over it)

Who subbed this? Is this ep 1? I don't remember those lines. o_o
either way, this looks like it'll be pretty entertaining.

Honestly, I hated Shana from the onset (I generally hate "gakuenmono", ie. stuff that use schools even when they shouldn't) so I don't know how it relates to that, but...
I'm not sure it's a series I recommend to people, because I felt let down by it. Like, in general, I didn't like it, just as I despised Code Geass R2 (which some people loved). And because I disliked R2 so much I can't recommend Code Geass season 1 to anyone, either, because if they're at all like me they'll be disappointed. And it's usually pretty hard to tell if someone else will like a series, so the best you do is say "I liked it and here's why" or "I didn't like it and here's why."
I finished S+W2, hoping it'd change. It did not. I came away thoroughly unimpressed. That said, I also dislike Suzumiya Haruhi greatly, which is a series you mentioned you liked, so I'm not sure how much our tastes match.
The princess tutu one is really really good, too bad i dropped the series at episode 17 cuz it was horribly hard for me to watch. Ahh.. the lain one was really good. I liked that alot. Makes me wanna watch Lain again so i can remember wtf happened . I liked the 3rd one too. Completely different from what you would usually see. Even added the anime to my PTW list cuz it looked pretty interesting -_-. The 3rd one with Pale Cacoon was pretty cool. I actually tried looking for some with Pale Cacoon earlier but they all sucked. Although im not a big fan of lip syncing in AMV's, that one wasnt too bad. Annnddd i didnt even watch the last one cuz Tsubasa Chronicles was total garbage =\
ANYWAYS LIKE I MENTIONED EARLIER! Everyone go read Tokyo Akazukin. Best manga ever.
Look up the production background of Cencoroll. I am also extremely biased because of a certain ending theme
Spice and Wolf is more business than economics, at least medieval economics to us today is just business. Southlight's reasoning is also completely correct though, I just couldn't plow through the light novels for this as readily as I would in some others due to that rising romance element. An odd problem considering I don't normally mind it, but I guess something about how it was pulled off and the elements sacrificed to bring that in just wasn't to my liking.

So, if you consider the good part and the part bad, would it be a positive or negative result? Did the bad part overshadow the good part or was it still worth it?

Why was it hard? I wondered if I should watch it or not...despite it, being for kids/girls. The anime of the third AMV is really interesting, or weird, however you would put it. You didn't watch the last one? Shame on you, it's really nice and calm and beautiful. Do it, at once! Tsubasa Chronicles, the first season, was ok. I watched it some years ago and since I like the character design, I couldn't resist.

TRC is the bastard parent of xxxHolic, yes, I just made that up.
And I am going to remember to reply the PM about oretsuba one of these days, just haven't gotten around to it since I've been trying to finish light's latest game. This post serves partially as a self-reminder ><
About the dislike for gakuenmono, that's one of the dislikes I know people have that I personally can't really understand. A school is just a setting like any others, and one possibly easier for most people to relate to. Even if the situations don't all particularly call for it, using it could just be easier and more convenient. Guess to me it serves as a par, with everything that'd try to go beyond it a good sign.
Also, double checking the last few pages, what was your problem with Utawarerumono, Lucumo?
S+W was negative for me. As I said, I'm rather critical of it, and I have a hard time understanding why people liked it so much, if they did. I'm actually not sure about the general reception of it.
Which came first TRC or xxxHolic? :p
The reason why I hate gakuenmono is because it usually results in a watered-down version of "what could have been." Hmm, it's a bad example because I actually kinda liked the school-turned-whale aspect of it, but SeiNarukana, for instance, didn't really need it. They used it as a morale-boosting thing, which was nice, but if the series were much more serious it'd just water it down. A lot of fantasy/sci-fi stories do this. Like Regios. Did that REALLY need the school thing? I mean, why are students doing all this fighting anyways. How about Index? Half the time the only reason why they bring up school is to bitch about homework. Gakuentoshi? Seriously?
I liked the Utawarerumono game (I know I'm not Lucumo) as it was one of the better SRPGs to date - was as difficult as the older Fire Emblem games, but the story really started jumping the shark, particularly as it got toward the end. Tears to Tiara suffered from a similar fate, except rather than jumping the shark I felt like it simply didn't get as epic as it should have.
Oh funny, I was under the impression that TRC started a bit before xxxHolic, was misled by the amount of vols out.
I don't know about Regios really. With Seinarukana...it was ok in that context, they used it well. If it was like Aselia yeah there would be a problem, but I don't feel like Seinarukana was a bad usage of school. As for Index, the school life does play a semi-important role, and it isn't like school stuff was actually mentioned often. The way sports festival was weaved into the events in vol 9 and 10 was pretty nicely done, and where school was unnecessary it just wasn't used. In comparison to other things, Index actually features very little time where people were actually in school. Gakuentoshi is actually a fairing amusing concept because schools and schoolchildren are such excellent...tools of manipulation and guinea pigs, I suppose? I do see how at times school could dilute potentials, just that more often than not there are elements more important than that which causes problems, the school setting tends to be more secondary in nature and really only surfaces as a significant problem when other major issues are done well.
Tears to Tiara suffered from a random middle and an overly accelerated end. As for Utawarerumono, I felt like the game's pacing near the end was slightly off, but it still lived up to most of the potential that it has. I guess that for me, as long as something doesn't undershoot the potential too much, I'll be pretty much satisfied. Did I mention that Kimi ga Tame makes me want to buy a PSP just to play Utawarumono portable?
I never played the games or w/e but i really enjoyed the Regios and Tears to Tiara anime's =\. But i do have to agree on the whole school thing for Regios. They seriously could've thought of something better than that =\

They talk up a lot about the race of humanity and all that in T2T and all that happens is they crush one puny kingdom, and only like two main villains (Gaius and the random guy), it was very Gundam-esque. It's a good example of "a series that was a let-down." Not gonna get into Regios more than that I felt the anime butchered the interesting-ness of Leifon and the series gradually degenerated into a school harem.
