... Why do you guys dislike Kimi no Iru Machi? I actually enjoy it a lot. Maybe it's because I read everything in one sitting?

You sell drama by selling the characters first, and depending on how convinced we are of what was sold we'll put up with so much drama. Suzuka managed to last a decent bit in. KNIM though...

Taking it to its logical conclusion means you should only bother with the crème de la crème and ignore everything else That's an interesting conclusion, though it assumes people care about how they spend their time 100% of the time, which I explicitly mentioned is not the case. Most of the time people don't give a shit, but sometimes they want value. In plain terms: sometimes a person will want to watch good anime instead of bad anime. You don't have to be on a "very tight schedule" to feel this way either. I already noted that everyone who is not immortal is on a schedule, and that every choice in something like what anime to watch comes with a trade-off of, for instance, an anime that cannot be watched at that time. The mere fact that this situation (a person wanting to watch good anime) occurs, and that criticism in general dissects the good and the bad of a piece, means that any discussion that actually attempts informative criticism can be used by a prospective viewer. Why do you think criticism exists? That the study of aesthetics exists? That discussion of any form over any form of art exists? Even if it's all meaningless and reducible to "mere" opinion that should just be disregarded, human culture over hundreds of years has demanded and perpetuated it. So it's fine to watch whatever you want to watch. It's fine to not even discuss it or to have no reasons for it. But if you're gonna pretend to discuss something, try to actually say something more about it than just "Well it's not the best, but it has worth." That statement is true for innumerable topics, and says nothing specifically about the show in question.

Idk, I just have a hard time seeing a manga end. I guess Drama is probably not a genre for me... Hehe.

I am starting to read Nichijou since that's my favorite anime series and I wanna see how the manga compares, but would like a couple more to read in parallel. It all depends on what genres you like. But you can't go wrong with a lil' One Piece or maybe join me in reading Kiri no Iru Machi! :D

1) After Psycho-Pass finishes airing I'm planning to re-watch the whole series while taking notes on interpretations of the show - this stuff may be of interest to many if you know about ghost in the shell there is a similar wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy_of_Ghost_in_the_Shell While I feel Psycho-Pass does not go anywhere near as in depth as it could(it's still good, and obviously, if it did it'd kinda blow over everyone) I'd like to unpack a lot of the material for people to think about as I'm a philosophy major and Asian studies minor so combining the two is great :D + Show Spoiler + Plus stuff like self identity, strong AI, the study of futurists, Foucault, and people like H.P lovecraft are all incredibly interesting ~ 2) Depending on how "hard-core" you are into japan you may find my stream of interest as it's filled with anime/Japanese things. I'm planning to travel to Japan next summer, and then move back a few months following as an ALT. Not many streamers are open about this kind of thing or let people know as blatantly as I do. Seems to me anime fans feel like a subjugated group a lot of the time. I'm here to let you know there are people with similar interests who stream and don't hide it :D 3) I'm not at my house right now, but many many times during my streams I'm asked for up to date recommendations on anime - to be honest the one in this thread is kinda meh, lots of classics sure, but often not really what "new to anime" people want.... If my memory doesn't fail me I'll post a paste bin link with all of my anime information here for those who'd care enough to search through it. Basically I write down everything about what I watch, ratings, series length etc all in one document that is organized chronologically. This may aid many people in their search for "good" shows(based on subjectivity, obviously!) Anyway, I'm just here to help out. If you ever have questions about something anime related, study of japan, or something of the sort I'd be more than happy to help you to whatever extent I can. I'm sure others here are just as educated in some of the areas as I am, if not more so. But if you need help just drop me a PM or whatever is most convenient for you~ :D

I'm not a big manga reader myself, but of the "popular" ones (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail), One Piece is the obvious recommendation. The others have their moments, but really can't compare to OP in the long run. Might as well just use that like everyone else, rather than make a pastebin: http://myanimelist.net/ Also, whats wrong with that chart? We all worked on that thing together, and designed it for "new to anime" scrubs. For example, it has Code Geass on it.
