![]() A horror film. Worth watching if you want to force someone to cuddle near you or if you liked Final Destination (eg a movie where the characters fight against forces of nature). Not the scariest movie possible. + Show Spoiler + Not a shock movie. There's maybe one shock scene when the protagonist girl tries struggles against the strong guy's head and ends up killing him. The fear of infinity scares me immensely. I couldn't get the movie out of my head when I tried to sleep last night. The fact that the movie takes place in an infinite loop is actually surprising. It was a nice twist. All the time the protagonist thought she could stop the events from ever happening if she just got everyone to not go on the boat but the boat wasn't the only supernatural thing. There are two iterations of the protagonist. One reaches the conclusion that she has to kill everyone after meeting her future self. The other, as a result of too much brain damage inflicted on herself, decides she has to kill everyone so the boat will come back and she can warn them not to get on. The main character's logical reasoning abilities are quite shitty and so we can only reason that it is due to the blunt trauma she inflicts/inflicted on herself causing her to forget what happens to her son. It's a story element to explain why so and so didn't just do this and that and make the story logical. The main thing that made the movie not as scary as could be, was that there was a finite number of dead people outside, and a finite number of necklaces in the drainage, and a finite number of papers crumpled up, and a finite number of dead seagulls. If things don't get cleaned up every time a new group enters the yacht, then eventually the entire world would have filled up with dead bodies, preventing the next loop. Judging by the number of things that persisted, there were maybe a dozen to a hundred iterations.

I d give it a 6/10 or even a 5. girlfriends loved it tho (x-men fan). also i didnt like the ending.. (stay till the end after credits and ull know why) Can you tell me what was happening ? Never got the courage to watch 'til the end... In fact, I just left before seeing the big boss or whatever you call it... It was just another action movie with a hero surviving through the big fight and getting laid (well... I'd understand if he didn't get laid on this particular's one, but in the end it's pretty much the same shit)... But yeah 6/10 If you're feeling really bored and want to watch an action movie.

![]() The Conjuring 6.5/10 The beginning and middle were strong. The typical haunted house scenes were well done. They were chilling without showing too much. And then there are a few scenes that abruptly break from that, for example: + Show Spoiler + 1. the clapping hands coming out of the wardrobe when the mother is playing the hide and clap game 2. the close shot of the old lady on top of the wardrobe, and then seeing her jump on the child

![]() I've heard that there are a lot of movies cashing in on Ip man. This one seems boring, but it seems way more realistic too. The character isn't painted gold and put on a pedestal. The fight scenes, obviously are hard to believe, but they are very few. Anyways, not my style of movie, but if you want to learn about Ip man's post WW2 life, and you haven't already read a book on him, this is a good opportunity. Seriously, the film was so boring I only really watched 40% of it before skipping to the fight scenes. I don't know what I was expecting.

Nicholson was in soooo many good films in the 60s and 70s. This is supposed to be a sarcastic rhetorical question right? Just in the alt rock noise genre alone: Sonic Youth >>>>> Pixies In fact Sonic Youth has actually made soundtracks for movies. ![]() Haha yeah not to derail the thread too much. Of course there are better bands then The Pixies, but Sonic Youth's doesn't really match up with them, Sonic Youth sounded dated back in the 90s, now they just sound ancient. Pixies "Debaser" or "Monkey Gone To Heaven," still sound amazing. Hell, there last 3 albums are about perfect. Dont get me wrong Youth are awesome, but not vs The Pixies. As for the 70s Nicholson... ![]() Chinatown really is a perfect movie, much better than The Godfather(s). corumjhaelen complains about overrated movies... After seeing Chinatown I agree: it is better than the Godfather. + Show Spoiler + Dat ending. Makes me sick to the stomach. Fargo Well that was a depressing movie. and the only thing I could think of was: anyway: that dialect made my ears bleed. I can find no real fault with either movie. At least Chinatown made me care, Fargo didn't. However, the best thing is: I don't think I really like them. Not that they are bad but neither is my cup of tea.

![]() If you use that "group of people walking towards camera in slow motion" shot, then chances are your movie is shit. Before Midnight (2013) - 8.8/10 ![]() More of the good stuff that you'd expect. Thought the ending was a bit disappointing, though. R.I.P.D. (2013) - 5.5/10 ![]() The only reason that I watched this was because I snuck in. Just standard crap. How did they think that spending $130 million on this would be a good idea?

Plus with Spirited Away, Only Yesterday and Howl's Moving Castle they are by far the best animation studio. Early Disneys can be impressive, but they really don't compare with Ghibli. I agree about Pixar though. I find Satoshi Kon to be even better than Ghibli. Ghibli character design is a bit lacking and usually lacks very good character development in comparison as a trade off for the amazing details to the world. Other than monokohime, his works are generally fairly similar in terms of the atmosphere, warm and magical Satoshi Kon's works have a lot more different style ranging from dark psy horror to comedy to romance Even now I think Perfect Blue is the best anime movie right next to Akira

It wasn't boring in any sense and both parts worked. It was just a weird mix. Add in a lesbian theme to make it even more weird...

Really mild lackluster.. At first 9 minutes I thought, wow this has pretty shitty dialogs. Then I gave up on that and tried to enjoy movie in another way. The story holds somewhat potential as they all do, but I really didn't understand or get to known the patient character nor the woman. We only knew about the fanatic asshole, which in my opinion carried the whole movie. It felt like I watched your typical soap opera except it was in movie length.

The latest film by danish regisseur Nicolas Winding Refn. It is a very unconventional movie and stands out from the mass of "mainstream" movies due to its impressive images and to the fact that talking only plays a minor role in this film. The story is thin and the biggest role is played by the composition of often very symbolic pictures (partially quite violent) which leave much space for interpretation just as the title. Though its distinction from "normal" movies and some lenghts, I liked Only God Forgives. I can recommend it to everyone, who is open to see something different, but many say it´s completely senseless. So be aware, you either hate or like it. ![]() Despicable Me 2 Following the first part, I had some expectations going into this film. As I left the cinema, I was quite disappointed. Though the minions were funny again, the story was extremely boring and weak in my opinion (I nearly fell asleep). Furthermore, I felt like being too old for Despicable Me 2.

See it now. Definitely not a warm and magical anime from Ghibli Studios. Also Ghibli was founded by 2 directors Miyazaki and Takahata, not just Miyazaki, and other directors have worked for the studio. Plus the film that created Ghibli was Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, a movie I don't really like, but is similar to Princess Mononoke. The lack of character development is true of Ghibli's weaker efforts, but it is not a required trade off for amazing detail and their stronger efforts are proof of that. On Satoshi Kon, I've only seen Millenium Actress which is solid, but the closest Ghibli comparison dealing with memories of youth is Takahata's Only Yesterday which I find far more affecting. I still haven't found any of those sci-fi/violent animes to be anything special with the exception of Serial Experiments: Lain. Still haven't seen Perfect Blue yet though which does seem intriguing.
