And a question about the 3D of the new Star Trek movie, is it avoidable? I really hate 3D and I'm not enjoying it.

Most movies in DK are shown both in 2D and 3D. I never really understood 3D. It doesn't make a movie better in any way.

![]() This is a dreamy trip through existential pondering, a parade of characters with thought experiments or viewpoints on existing, dreaming, life, existential philosophy, etc.. It's sort of reminiscent of Linklater's early film Slacker, but less aimless, more tied together by one character's experience trying to understand what's going on--it does build as a story, though a weirdly told one. The animation is well suited to the film, which I think makes it very good. It's an interesting watch.

![]() An awesome crime/drama movie with Colin Farrell, an actor I really love. Wouldn't consider it an action film, although there are a number of really good action scenes. It's style is also very unique compared to larger Hollywood films. But the acting was truly amazing, and definitely worth watching. 8/10

could you also add a note to tell people not to use imdb images? Because 90% of the time that you see a broken image, its from imdb, which happens to not work on the forum

![]() Stoker 5/10 Park Chan-wook's first film with a mostly non-korean crew and cast. I had high hopes for this but it really fell flat. Mia Wasikowska played her part well but it was hard to really care for her character. Pacing felt off and the story felt undeveloped and shallow. There were some nice shots in it and the backdrop was right for the film's tone. But yeah overall, would not recommend, especially if you liked his past work.

I guess it was bad enough that there was no suspense the entire time because you could forecast the entire movie within seconds. I'm not at all familiar with the book, but this film seemed like it was directed by a freshman in community college that's taking Sociology 101. The concept is supposed to shock or at least interest you, but it was boring. The buildup was far too slow. It took forever for anything to happen, including several cut scenes of the mom being stalked. After the second cut, you're just like, "Okay, we get it, someone's gonna try something... you don't have to keep reminding us of something you just showed 2 minutes ago... So please, make something happen?" The cult-like youth dressed in masks was suppose to dehumanize them, as the "dark side" of so-called human nature. But they were not very frightening and they just all looked like grown up children of the corn or whatever. You know what this was? A bad 12-hour only mass homicidal-maniacs / Zombie film with no zombies. The deaths were almost campy! Lots of people in the theatre were laughing during scenes that were unintentionally hilarious. The acting was pretty bad, too.

These are known but not ubiquitous I would guess My choicest picks (if you know classics they might count under stuff everybody knows): The Orphanage Double Indemnity Sleuth (1972) Vertigo The Thing Some others I like a lot: Chronicle Renaissance Black Swan The Illusionist The Game Twelve Monkeys Watched: Silver Linings Playbook It was good. The leads and other performances really stood out, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were magnetic, I loved them. A fun watch, with heart.

![]() One of the Val Lewton's 1940s horror movies, The Seventh Victim is a well crafted atmospheric picture. Sure the acting is hackneyed most of the time, especially by the men and the unnecessary "love story" is beyond ludcrious, but the brilliance displayed in at least a half a dozen scenes is something to behold. Like most horrors of this time, the movie isn't scary, but instead tries to instill a sense of danger and dread. A naive young woman travels back east to try and find her sister who has mysteriously gone missing. With the help of her sister's husband and a poet she meets a restaurant, she uncovers a group of Satan worshipers. The conclusion is shocking even by today's standards and there is a great little shower scene that Hitchcock must have had in mind when making Psycho. There is just so much under the surface in this one and its bleakness and shadows surpass most film noirs.

![]() Just caught this in the movie theater, loved it. Has to be one of the most classic 80's comedies, the absurdities are perfectly illuminating.

![]() Not all that great. The hitchhikers guide is a very sarcastic and silly movie. Made after the book series of the same name. I could never finish the book but in general books are better than movies so I recommend if you have the patience to read the book first/instead. Hitchhikers uses satire to make fun of the work people do. Why do people stress over their jobs everyday? Homes get demolished to build bypasses to move people to work so they can live a permanent rat race. Everything that happens in the movie is silly and highly improbable. It pokes fun also at people who try to ask questions about the meaning of life or the universe or everything. As a production the movie was stunningly beautiful. The main problem with the movie is that it doesn't change your view of life. If you thought that your actions were moot in the vastness of the universe then you still will when you leave this movie. There is no food for thought and the movie is too random. It doesn't seem to stay on a central theme so it just feels short like nothing important happened.
