You see, if a director is setting his stage inside a room and only dialogue moves the movie forward, you have to judge that movie by it's script. It had my attention for the first half, cause the main idea is very interesting, I'll admit it but then... the comparison is a bit silly but it felt like skyrim where you become grand magister, ultimate vampire, jarl, you save the world from dragons etc. It went from plausible to ridiculous pretty fast. Also the characters should have some deep philosophical/theological discussions, instead their views were ignorant like a teen's. That guy didn't convince me that he was wise at all, quite the opposite. His company consisted of cliched characters that couldn't express or support their theories about cosmos if their lives depended on it. 1/10 only for the nice core idea imo. Directors should read more dostoyevski seriously. The only thing that bothers me about the script is when+ Show Spoiler + the Psychiatrist says "We didn't ask to hear this." But every single one of them asked to know why he was moving. ![]() Who actually can support their theories about the coming of the universe? It's all just speculation. They did a pretty good job of making the religious woman look like an idiot, which was nice. + Show Spoiler + The whole film is just speculation. "What if a man survived for 14,000 years?" Nothing is conclusive until the end of the film. It doesn't really go from plausible to ridiculous, it starts out in the realm of ridiculous. It's not a discussion of philosophy or theology, it's a discussion of the idea that a man could live for so long. What would he be like? etc. A decent part of that discussion winds up being that man's ideas and faith, which for him were quite simple and don't require a deep conversation. "I think I just happened" "New testament in 100 words or less" "I have no need for God, but he might be around" Very straightforward and simple ideas. It's not a film about theology, it's about the 14,000 year old man.

![]() I'm sure most people would refer to this as pretentious or self-indulgent (it's based on his own poetry! Eek!), but I refer to them as personal. It depends on if you can connect with any of the imagery or feeling. Or like this one if the director just makes it so damn fun and loopy. It's hard to give the movie justice in writing, but basically it turns into a film within a film (mixed with dream/memory as the director inserts himself into his own movie) about the director's childhood and the exaggerations and gaps in his memory of it. Music plays a very large role going from traditional Japanese songs (I think) to crazy psychedelic jams. "Real life" is in black and white, the film with the film is in color and the insane and wacky circus scenes are in color with a psychedelic lens filter. Just as an example of the wackiness there is an ongoing joke about a woman in a deflated fat suit who gets aroused by people "pumping" her up (see the bottom left corner of the above image). Overall a funny and very weird personal project from a director I'd never heard of before. Definitely interested in seeing what else he has done, though this one is pretty rare and it's his most well-known work.

Brilliant satire of class relationship in the US and of a romance that breaks through it despite opposition. The utmost irony on the false revolution that would soon come and change nothing is very well seen, I'm impressed. The movie also breeaks genre stereotypes, as "Baby", the main characters, is the educated girl and takes initiative, while Patrick Swayze shows emotions. Masterpiece, 10/10. + Show Spoiler + Ok, more seriously, the movie ai'nt half bad despite the -alas^^- naive tone and the pretty transparent writing, mainly because the dance scene are decently done, but also because the movie doesn't take itself very seriously. Patrick Swayze has enough swag so that as a heterosexual male I found him charismatic despite his stupid lines. Chick movie, but it's not worse than most of the teenage boys movies I've seen. 6/10 I guess ?

![]() I really love movies that have something to do about math, especially when it's used in a practical setting. This movie shows just that. Who thought that math and baseball could actually work together and form an efficient baseball team based on stats, right? Apparently these guys. A really good watch for people who love math and baseball, 10/10.

Took me about half of the movie just to understand what was happening and I didn't really like the pacing of it; too many spots where I was just like okay...this is boring... Overall, I was disappointed. The ending especially was just kind of abrupt and left me wondering what happened to some of the other characters. 6.5/10 The best love movie ever.

![]() As Good as it Gets 8/10 was going through channels and happened to catch this. I was pleasantly surprised. The ending was a bit cheesy but there were plenty of funny and charming bits to keep me entertained. agreed.

![]() "A high school teacher's unusual experiment to demonstrate to his students what life is like under a dictatorship spins horribly out of control when he forms a social unit with a life of its own. " http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1063669/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 I loved the characters. Ferdi and that annoying asshole were fun and made it feel pretty upbeat. Vivid direction - kind of something that I haven't seen much. Why haven't I heard of this before? I kept digging imdb suggestions and this came up. Btw there's das experiment too which I'll probably watch now. Germans really like experiments topics in their movies haha.

![]() I was starting to veer away from Asian cinema until I recently found this film. The writer and producer are both from the same cast of that oversaw Ip man 1 and 2 starring donnie yen. The director is Ronnie Yu, the same guy that directed Fearless. The story is about the Yang family, which has the father, mother, and 7 sons. A neighboring nation invades, and they set off to go to war. Its hard to give a good synopsis without spoiling much of the movie, so I'll just leave it at that. The filming is very similar to that of Fearless (flashbacks, recurring motifs, slow to develop the story because there's a lot of action in between, etc). Although the story does not manage to explain the characters very well, it does do a pretty good job of capturing the emotions and spirit of the story. There are a lot of characters and no real "main" character, so the intro is sort of hard to follow until they start riding out to battle. Overall: 7/10

![]() I enjoyed it. It doesn't tell you what to think, it only presents itself. I've come to appreciate that style more and more. Its vague and open to interpretation, as opposed to being concrete and formulaic. The acting is good. The dialogue, while not elegant, is perfectly appropriate. The action is good, and not overdone. 8 /10 It suited my tastes, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Its slow, and not really meant to satisfy the viewer, as much as its meant to present a scene

![]() http://www.hulu.com/lovehate Not a movie, but an Irish show/miniseries. Great to watch, I was really impressed by the casting and performances. Chronicles low-level crime in modern Dublin in a remarkable way, with great dialogue and solid talent all around. Highly recommended for anyone interested in that type of genre. First season is very good but the show really hits its stride in season two. Worth the viewing alone to see Aidan Gillen as Littlefinger on cocaine.

Overall: 7/10 A bit too over the top here and there and there are elements that seem to be borrowed from other movies (300 and the myth where one defends against many). It was a nice weekend movie to watch though. I thought it was also kind of silly that + Show Spoiler + 7 would leave and only 6 would return and the 6th oldest was the only one to return. That's not cryptic. That's just a soothsayer being wrong. It's not the worst movie but you can probably find far better.

Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust ![]() I watched the 1985 movie first and this remake from 2000 is superb. I enjoyed the Beserk Golden Age Arc and it lead me to this, which is equal in it's production, but narrower in it's length and scope. It's an imaginary epic, full of death and beauty.
