Can't believe I didn't watch this until now. 10/10.
It's ranked #1 on IMDB and I highly recommend it.

One of the best.

Shawshank is to prison movie what U2 is to pop music.
And I don't mean that as a compliment.

what is U2 to pop music?
I dont get that analogy ^^

The epitome of overhyped.

Not bad. I would say comparable to Fast 5 in overall quality.

That runway towards the end of the film must be the longest runway on the planet!

Silver Linings Playbook
Standard feel good romance comedy. I wanted to feel good and this movie I guess did that.
+ Show Spoiler +

I feel like many people watch this movie because it has Jennifer Lawrence. It's a movie about 2 people, one who has anger management issues and over-attachment to a cheating ex, and another who has low self esteem and lost her husband.

The dialogue was quite poor. Especially from the minor characters. "omg sorry you guys got a 5""Wait why are they so happy for a 5?!" I felt like the dialogue of the minor characters was too forced and they didn't spend enough time making sure the minor characters sounded right.

I'm also not sure if they needed to have so much football talk in the movie. The fact that the male protagonist had to balance time with his dad did make the movie more interesting. But it bothered me that the Dad and the son never really ended up spending more time together later. The dad continued to be superstitious about football and he let his son live his own life because he thought his football team would be more successful when his son was with his girlfriend. Instead the father should have been happy the son was spending time with a girl that made him happy.

Maybe it was more realistic that the dad continued to be superstitious.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

City of God
Pretty good crime/drama in a different setting than the norm (Rio). It's in Portuguese, so steer clear if you're not into subtitles. Overall 8/10.

The Man From Earth
Interesting concept but very poorly written and executed. The low budget didn't help either.
Overall 3/10.

Citizen Kane
A classic movie I had never seen. I can see why it's rated as one of the best movies of all time. Pacing and style is different from today's movies, but I enjoyed it. If nothing else, seeing it will help you appreciate the numerous references and tributes to it in other movies and TV.
Overall 8/10.

100% disagree. I thought this film was incredibly well done with the available funds. A movie that's really driven by dialogue alone that is as interesting as this is very hard to come by.

8/10 from me. Very good movie.

Just finished Cloud Atlas.

I'm not entirely sure I "got" all of it, but I sure as hell enjoyed it the whole time. The idea that the actions of an individual and the relationships between people could flow through time and bloodlines, it's just such an interesting concept and something more... I don't know, idealistic and artistic than an action movie.

8/10, I'll probably watch it a couple more times to get everything. See this for sure if you want something that actually makes you pay attention.

If you watch Cloud Atlas, make sure you have subtitles. It helps so much, especially since the post-apocalyptic dialect is really hard to understand. Overall very good movie though. It was different from the usual single-story movie and was very artistic.

I recently watched Equilibrium again. Pretty decent if you're into 1984/dystopian stuff. The last gun fight scene was pretty awesome.

I second this.

Primer was a movie with great atmosphere that progressed really solidly and was very interesting to watch.

Also, I submit Pi to that list.

Cyrano Dating Agency

Was an adorable rom-com about a theater troupe that uses their acting and staging skills to create korean drama-like scenarios for their clients to woo their ideal girl. Must watch for any fans of Lee Min Jung or Daniel Choi

I just rewatched it and finally figured it out. The movie portraits the first five iterations of the matrix, just watch the dialouge between neo and the architect in matrix two right after and it all makes sense. :D Kidding, but great movie, defnitly got better for me the second time watching it.

Also saw
End of watch

Starts off slowly. A movie made in the style of those cop shows, I was really bored the first 40 minutes of the movie, then it starts to pick up in speed and holy mother, the ending is so rewarding, thrilling, moving. The acting is superb, it is defnitly a unique movie.
I am not a big fan of violence, and non-fantasy-themed movies, but this one is special. The beginning can be really tedious, but I suggest to watch it, hang in there, and don`t miss out on this. Beware though it is quite graphic.

Okay people. This is getting on my nerves.

Please stop linking to IMDB pictures. For some reason they all end up not working.

Please upload your own picture and include the title, not only the picture.

I don't agree on Man from Earth.

You see, if a director is setting his stage inside a room and only dialogue moves the movie forward, you have to judge that movie by it's script.
It had my attention for the first half, cause the main idea is very interesting, I'll admit it but then... the comparison is a bit silly but it felt like skyrim where you become grand magister, ultimate vampire, jarl, you save the world from dragons etc.
It went from plausible to ridiculous pretty fast.
Also the characters should have some deep philosophical/theological discussions, instead their views were ignorant like a teen's.
That guy didn't convince me that he was wise at all, quite the opposite. His company consisted of cliched characters that couldn't express or support their theories about cosmos if their lives depended on it.

1/10 only for the nice core idea imo.

Directors should read more dostoyevski seriously.
My dick has shrunk to the point where it looks like I have 3 balls.

Chinatown (1974)

This movie is brilliant.
Awesome noir, slightly understated, brilliantly directed and acted, with Polanski's incredible attention to detail. Nothing too out of the ordinary or original, but still an amazingly well made film.

If you're image doesn't load you should really at least say the title of the movie so people don't have to guess and click on links just to figure it out.

I saw "Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story" on Netflix. It was kind of like King of Kongs but for Monopoly. Thought it was kind of stupid because there is a HUGE luck factor in Monopoly and these guys think they are elite monopoly players. One guy hired like 4 coaches to help him train for the monopoly tournament. Ridiculous.
