Jagten/ The Hunt
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/eO0HC9X.jpg)
A movie about + Show Spoiler +a man working in a kindergarten being falsely accused of sexually harassing a young girl. He becomes target of the hunt that dubs the movie, finding himself expelled from society, friends and the woman he starts to love. It's a tough movie to watch for everyone who works with children or once used to, like me. The constant worrying that a child or coworker might misinterpret behavior in a sexual way, without it ever being meant that way, or the fear of baseless accusations that happened in a rush and in the heat of the moment is something that followed me around constantly. The public opinion that children never lie and that a grown man working with children is in itself weird leads to the unfortunate situation that once there is an accusation, your career and life is basically over. The feeling of being essentially banned from society hits the lead character even harder because he lives in a small town out in Denmark where everybody knows everyone and where there's no escape from the public pillory. It's suffocating to watch and it made me want to hate everyone in the movie, from the girl who started the accusation to the kindergarten supervisor woman who had no idea to deal with the situation to his friend of 30 years (father of the girl) who chooses to trust her and not him to the supermarket employees who refuse to attend on him. The problem is, in the end you realize everyone has their legitime reasons to act the way they do and there is factually nobody to blame. I found it to be a brave movie, shedding light on the often overlooked fact that not all people accused of sexually harassing someone don't get convicted because of lack of evidence, but for the mere fact that there never was sexual aggression in the first place. I give it a 9/10, only because the last scene wasn't as convincing as it should have been and because + Show Spoiler +him staying in town after everything that starts happening to him just feels a tad too High-Noon-ish for my liking. . Nevertheless, fantastic movie.

The hunt is a super movie.
I left the cinema feeling sick to my stomach over how people behave. But as you say everyones reaction is believable and realistic. How would you have acted in such a situations? It's one of the best movies I've seen in recent time...

That talk about the Hunt reminds me of Panique (and of M, even though M is guilty).
A Letter to Three Wives (Joseph L. Mankiewicz) Three women spend their saturday on a boat, but they received a letter from a common friend telling them that she ran away with one of their husband. Ensue a flashback about the story of each of those three couples. With this brilliant pitch, Mankiewicz wrote a stunningly good screenplay and made a great movie, as I expected. The portrayal of those three couples is simply perfectly done, with an attention to details geared toward their psychology. Their situation is typical of America at that time, but is universal at the same time. There's also a satire of society and in particular advertisement, Kirk Douglas delivering an superb speech as usual. There would be a lot to say, but I'll just finish with what I usually say about Mankiewicz : his movie are the best of two worlds, easily accessible and of the highest quality. This one is no exception. 9/10

+ Show Spoiler + if anyone thinks about watching that movie, just dont. the best part was seeing rosario dawson completly naked (which i say is really fucking awesome ) i expected a good movie from the director of trainspotting, but its just terrible. it tries to have one of those plots where youre supposed to think everything is revealed but NO ITS NOT DAMN! but it just fails 3/10 for seeing her naked :>

The Place Beyond the Pines
I'm not really sure what to say about this movie. The first part is amazing but it quickly goes downhill as it devolves into a meandering epic spanning generations that just rings... quite false.
Worth a viewing but just remember the first part is the best.
[6/10]

^Hmmm... I'm seeing The Place Beyond the Pines sometime soon I'll keep in my mind what you said.

It's like a formalist Brakhage film studying light and the editing rhythm of cinema mixed with a surrealist stop motion animation short. We swirl up a staircase and peer into these absurd situations as they are repeated, cut and put in close up until finally the light consumes everything. It's a fascinating mix of live action and stop motion techniques. Problem is it gets a little tedious at points. It's episodic and as is usually the case which such movies certain episodes are strong than others. The quality between them is especially striking here unfortunately. Overall it's a great watch though. Certainly very ambitious.

Haters will hate, I'm sure. I saw "The Expendables 2."
+ Show Spoiler [Rather large image.] +
I saw this yesterday on a whim. Fixed the problems I had with the first one, by removing most any semblance of plot and replacing it with more cheesy action, lol. I don't enjoy many movies that have strictly no profound story and are purely for mindless entertainment, but "Expendables 2" is just such a movie. ("Sword of the Stranger" and "FFVII: Advent Children" I would also include on this list) Sometimes you simply need something stammeringly implausible with corny one-liners and thoughtless action. It's like America's own contemporary version of Monty Python; all stereotypes intended.
Norris alone should make it worth the watch, and Schwarzenegger is a close second reason. The power of the beard compels you....
Edit: Oh. Derp. A rating, lol. If you're not in the mood for mindlessness, you will not enjoy this at all. But if you want some silly action, you'll have a decent laugh at the incredulity of it all. 7.5/10.

i went into the expendables 2 with no expectations at all, and enjoyed it sooo much. I was surprised.

Yeah, that's definitely the kind of initial attitude to have before watching it. Can't take it too seriously.

Hunger Games. There is so much tension in the first half its almost nauseating. I love it.

Very sexy very well written. The costume design alone is amazing, pay close attention to the female thoughout the whole movie her cloths and makeup changes a ton from scene to scene sometimes. Has some great laughs and a small contained plot that doesn't reach too far but doesn't sell itself short either.
8/10

42. Wasn't a bad movie, and I really wanted to like it, but the plotting just didn't work.

It's exciting and dangerous, yet it retains a light atmosphere through the nature of the quirky couple. I'd also rate it around an 8/10.
IMDB + Show Spoiler +"When a couple discovers that a brass teapot makes them money whenever they hurt themselves, they must come to terms with how far they are willing to go."
This seemed interesting to me so I decided to give the film a go, and I was not disappointed.

+ Show Spoiler + Him staying in town while all this goes on is certainly something that I wondered about during the film, why hasn't he just moved yet?
And as for the final scene... I thought it was great. To me I felt like there might be a slim chance that things could return to normal and maybe there would be a happy friendly ending, and then just as the main character, I quickly learned during the hunt, that after an accusation like that, things will never be the same.

By far the best of all the Ip Man films. Don't be fooled by the trailer, which initially put me off as well as the actor looked a bit too old, but it's basically a lot of good plot, adult maturity (as opposed to teenage immaturity which is common in many martial arts movies) and old man wisdom.
The only downside was that there was too much heartstring pulling... + Show Spoiler +E.g. Pregnant woman getting punched, family selling their child for money, dog getting burned alive, etc.
If you've seen the previous Ip Man movies, you would definitely enjoy this one. It's more like Bodyguards and Assassins than say Sha Po Lang.

Just recently i watched Silver Linings Playbook. Not always my type of category, but really well made movie. I was bit skeptical of Jennifer Lawrence but she performed well. I can see why she won the Oscars this year.

I can see the lack of competition too (there were outstanding performances of actresses in a supporting role but as a leading role she was alone).

Just saw Flypaper with a friend, not a fantastic movie but I really enjoyed it. Half the jokes and twists are anticipated but there were a few good surprises and Patrick Dempsey (which I've never really valued as an actor since he is "that guy girls watch Grey's Anatomy's for") really did a great performance (playing a paranoid, overthinking dude taken hostage in a bank robbery).

Thats the problem almost every year if you ask me. Someone who deserves to be at least nominated, is left out. Doesn't matter which category.

The Company You Keep

Small time reporter gets a chance at the story of a lifetime while an FBI's most wanted fugitive is on the run.
5/10 for interesting story, doesn't have much else going for it.
Spoiler for more in depth review, may contain some minor spoilers + Show Spoiler + Purely plot driven film. Very little character development that happens briefly. That said, the story is still an interesting one. There are a few twists throughout the film, but none are really overwhelming. This movie has what I would consider a really solid cast, but almost everyone has a really flat character to portray so the talent may be seen as somewhat wasted. If a drama/mystery esque film sounds interesting, then I would give it a go. IMDB calls it a thriller, but there isn't much suspense, if you find any, so I'd simply call it a mystery film. But it kind of falls short there also, as the upcoming parts of the story are outlined before they occur which takes away from the whole idea of mystery films.

Just saw The Master.
Why is it that it seems every movie which is beautifully shot and acted but ultimately extremely dull, poorly paced, boring and just overall uninteresting deemed fantastic? If I sit through a 2 hour 20 minute movie, I want something engaging. ANY fashion of engaging. I could turn my brain off and enjoy the scenery and come away with the same experience as somebody trying to figure out where the movie is going. It goes nowhere. 5 maybe 6 out of 10 at best. The acting, like I say, is phenomenal. There are some very beautiful scenes. But that is it.
