This actually IS the series as far as I know. Golden Age Arc One being the start of the show. It's been a while since I've watched the series, but it's just each episode strung together to movie length, IIRC.

Princess Mononoke - Fantasy The Girl who leaped through time - time travel/Adventure (surprise) Spirited Away - Fantasy/Children (like disney and pixar stuff is technically children) Tokyo Godfathers - Comedy/Drama Sword of the Stranger - Action/Historical Redline - Racing (science fantasy rather over the top) Ghost in the Shell (Cyberpunk one of THE two classics) Akira (Cyberpunk the other one) Edit: If you can bring yourself to bare with an Anime series go Cowboy Bebop or Baccano! (both rather short) or the new Attack on Titan (that one really reminded me of Berserk in a good way) on topic: I just watched "The five Star Stories" old, not really special, go read the Manga instead because it is only 1/4 of the material in the anime movie 6/10 (not in a critical mood here)

I'd like to second 'Ghost in the shell' and it's sequel, ''Ghost in the shell: Innocence', both are pretty decent films. The rest I found to be rather juvenile. Another recommendation I'd like to make is 'Paprika'. If you're into LSD-ish stuff, watch 'Kanashimi no Beradonna', it's from the seventies, but really good.

Anyways IMO for anime movies I'll second some of the ones above (I have not seen many anime films): Girl who leapt through time is very good, my favourite I've seen among anime but also just is a really good movie. 5 centimeters per second is a collection of 3 shorts that string together that is really good, but less of a "film". Only 1 hour. Spirited away is good; was amazing at the start but then loses some focus Redline's first half was fucking awesome for me, the rest was meh but I loved the first race watch all of them sub instead of dubbed though, dunno if people prefer dubs or subs (I do subs only)

I found 'Howl's moving castle' to be a bit slow for my liking and I felt a little detached while watching it. Good film for if you're sick though. I'm with you on the 'no dubbed movies' by the way, I don't know where they get those English voices, but it's almost as bad as German voice-overs and translations of film titles.

The series is literally my favorite anime series of all time but I couldn't stomach watching the movies themselves. To each their own I suppose.

Neon genesis evangelion was grand as well, but sooo slow and 'serialized', pity as the style and story were good.

I know this is actually pretty pathetic but I fell asleep watching voices of a distant star because I started it at like 4 AM randomly one day and thought "I can last the 25 minutes runtime" and haven't reattempted xD. So I've seen like half of a 25 minute short if that's believable

Non-anime, Korean and despite the 'Asian English' in it quite alright: 'Late Autumn'. Romantic drama/farce about a woman on a two day leave from prison to be at one of (forgot which) her parents' funerals, meets a man, messed up memories all around, agreeable dialogue and a nice finish.

Well you can certainly say that and I kinda agree but for me that doesn't mean they are bad. I didn't want to recommend Paprika because I have yet to see it but I thought about it. I think I am gonna watch it soon. In between posts I watched: Garden of Sinners 5 Very good indeed. The film is cut and structured to keep you off balance and keep you guessing what is going on. + Show Spoiler + The introduction of Enjou, Tomoe works nicely and for my part I thought that he was done alright. Good tension, good animation, good enough story and overall a worthy part in the series. 8/10

A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1189073/ And I thought Spanish Directors couldn't make good movies anymore. I highly recommend this film.

Is any of the story new, or is it just updated animation? I remember watching the first episode and comparing it to the first Golden age film, and I thought they were almost identical? I'm reading on wikipedia that the voice actors have slightly changed, but it doesn't say much about the story differences. Are there any?

Just watched Oblivion. It´s a 2013 post-apoc sci-fi movie with Tom Cruise. I enjoyed it very much, highly recommended.

Worse than the previews for Shutter Island giving away the only plot twist in the film (Made shutter island a huge disappointment for me). This film reveals the bulk of the storyline within 3 minutes. Jack Reacher's dialogue, as well as that of some other characters, then tells you what's about to happen next for most of the film. Making this movie one you should only watch for two reasons. OK action scenes dispersed throughout, and the character Jack Reacher (Not necessarily Cruise's performance) is a total bad ass. Potential spoilers - if you use your brain at all while watching a movie, this will be obvious anyway + Show Spoiler + One thing that really bothered me about the screenplay is that the defense attorney keeps saying "5 RANDOM targets" or "5 people killed at RANDOM." This kind of writing made it painfully obvious that the targets are not all random, which ruins the only possible reveal this terrible movie could have had. Due to the movie showing you from the very beginning that Barr is not the killer lays down the framework for the rest of the movie and the other characters hold your hand while you hear the rest of the bed time story. Decent acting, just a crap screenplay, imo.
