What a fucking crazy movie... It's filled with so many ideas and whacky characters that I feel it kind of get lost at some points but overall it was highly enjoyable. Malkovich is such a perfect choice for the movie.

Why is it that it seems every movie which is beautifully shot and acted but ultimately extremely dull, poorly paced, boring and just overall uninteresting deemed fantastic? If I sit through a 2 hour 20 minute movie, I want something engaging. ANY fashion of engaging. I could turn my brain off and enjoy the scenery and come away with the same experience as somebody trying to figure out where the movie is going. It goes nowhere. 5 maybe 6 out of 10 at best. The acting, like I say, is phenomenal. There are some very beautiful scenes. But that is it. I agree. The movie was boring and I'm not sure what it was trying to do. It was just very dull and not much happened. It did not tell a story or give you a new perspective. I don't remember if I gave this movie a review before. There are many movies though that have great acting and are interesting. They just don't get very popular for some reason. Edit: Many movies with great acting and story do actually get popular. For instance Black Swan would've won the hearts of many of the harsher critics on RT as well as the general public.

What an amazing film. One of my favourites of all time. Kaufman is one of the greatest film writers of all time. He leaves you with that feeling that you're not quite sure what he was trying to say, but he said it really really well.

I agree the master is not for your average moviegoer, but saying it didn't tell a story is just bullshit

He wanted to focus on his study of characters, and my opinion is that it did not work at all. And the acting is unbearable, I thought I was watching a caricature of the worse of method acting.

We have 30 minutes of slow exposition on the main character only as he stumbles through being drunk on poison. Finally we are introduced to a few other characters that have any form of meaning on the movie (why does it take 30 minutes to do this?). We have an hour and a half of rising action. A 30 second climax with no huge significance, limited falling action and no resolution. No character development at all. We see glimpses of it, but no actual change. What the movie is: + Show Spoiler + drunk drunk drunk, nude, sex, drunk drunk drunk, amy adams jerk a guy off for 10 seconds, SOBER! drunk drunk end with sex and an almost comical reference to some introductory lines which are supposed to mean something (yes I know they are lines uttered by his master when he began the attempted brainwashing).

Two of them on this page are worth a watch, The Prestige and especially LA Confidential. Watched The Notebook ![]() Oh The Notebook, what can I say about you? For good or evil (I'm not sure) one of the most culturally influential movies of our time, it's basically become the romance archetype of our generation. For example I'd say the later (outstanding) Ryan Gosling movie Blue Valentine can be easily read as almost a direct reaction to it, and it's far from the only one. It's definitely worth a watch no matter what, it's not boring and Gosling and Rachel McAdams stand out as extremely good. Whether you are buying what Cassavetes, Nicholas Sparks and them are selling though, I can't really rule on it. It's got me thinking about the whole culture though, that's for sure. It's undeniably well made and executed, seeing how effective it's been for so many people.

Depends what viewpoint you are most interested in.

on IMDB anyone can vote and influence the score, on RT only movie critics (whatever exactly qualifies as one, I dont know exactly) But if you go on RT, dont just look at the % but also the average score, the percentage just says how many critics a)liked it (score of 3/5 i believe) or b) didnt like it, whereas the average score also factors in how high their rating was, more like imdb. And yeah like zaproffo says one advantage of RT is that the critiques are directly linked, and prominent critics are featured

But overall, never trust the mark, the reasonning behind it helps much more to make a good choice. It will also help you understand the movies better, and in turn, enjoy them more.

I don't feel like anyone's opinion of a movie would correlate with my enjoyment level than some youtube scenes, reading of the wiki, TL posts, or trailers would. I've read some really good imdb reviews however. I don't think I've liked many RT reviews.

I realize that this is quite some time after the release of the film but really I loved it and felt like I could write a little about it.
