The violence in it even caught me off guard at times, and I am not the squemish type.

It isn't that bad.
Purely from memory it isn't much worse than something like Se7en.

Purely from memory it isn't much worse than something like Se7en. the violence in it was ten times as real, imo, as in Se7en. and:
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!! + Show Spoiler + the fact that the protagonist basically becomes the devil that he's hunting was way fucked up. in Se7en the Brad Pitt character basically becomes a killer and gives the guy his final kill, but in the end, he's just a fucked up dude who got screwed over. the protagonist in I Saw the Devil slowly becomes a monster throughout the movie, and like the cannibal said, starts acting like them: torturing people, ignoring the consequences, and finally, destroying an innocent family, all to get his revenge, his "kicks". only at the end does he start to realize that he's destroyed his own humanity through his own choice. you get the feeling that he is slowly starting to enjoy toying with the serial killer, just like the serial killer enjoys toying with his victims, and like the killer, nothing he does can fill the void that is growing within him. in Se7en the bad guy is just straight up bad, but in IStD the bad guy, in a fucked up way, becomes a victim himself. he's still evil, but he's also getting slowly picked apart until he breaks.
difrent strokes for difrent folks though. i liked Se7en, i just thought this was a way more intense portrayal of evil and the loss of humanity, which made it really disturbing for some reason.

Watched two of my favorite movies of all time at the weekend
![[image loading]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51KcaDsjgBL._SX500_.jpg) I simply love this movie on every level.
![[image loading]](http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/ghostbusters-blu-ray.jpg) This goes without saying

Oh yeah! I watched this a few weeks ago (on Groundhog Day ofc). The greatness of that movie is not to be underestimated.
Also, ![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/84/What_About_Bob_film.jpg/220px-What_About_Bob_film.jpg)
Another great Bill Murray movie that I've seen recently. (I also watched Zombieland, if that counts haha)

it's just some action-flick with barely any plot. besides daughter gets kidnapped -> father goes after her. is that really all it takes to make a really good movie now?

It always depends on expectations. How many actionflicks do you actually have high expectations of a good story -- from? What are you trying to accomplish when you put on a mindless actionflick? If asked I'd say my genre was drama, but actionmovies rarely requires much thinking so when I'm in that kind of mood they fit.
What do you consider a good recent actionflick?

This was a nice movie. It's about two people who are afraid to be together even though it's so clear that they're meant to be together.
If you liked Eternal Sunshine you'll love this. + Show Spoiler + It took a while but it really wasn't too late for them. Some would say that the ending ruins the movie but I think it just shows that it's not over if they pass away. You just remember who they are and live life the way they'd want you to.

Is it just raw violence or is there a deeply disturb aspect as well? I ask because violence, even realistic violence with gore and gutting, really doesn't shock the average netizen anymore, especially for those that have been on /b/.

I would say it's more psychological than violent, doesn't even hit my top 20 of goriest films really.

Me and my friend watched I saw the devil too, we thought about something interesting about something: + Show Spoiler +What happened to the two ladies that the bad guy was trying to rape? Can it be that the agent killed them to continue his game? Because if you think about the girls, they should have been brought into investigation by the police if they find them at the scene and they would have told about this guy who saved them, but the police didn't know about the agent or anything up until they got to that house in wilderness.

I saw this one last week The skin I Live in (Original title: La piel que habito).

It's a pretty sick movie. Very good, but sick.

I actually wrote an essay for college on how that movie is one of the most interesting love stories out there. The movie itself is very good at portraying the severity of being on your own and defying the odds to save your own life and the life of a girl you love. The part at the end, though, with the teacher and the painting - MIND BLOWN.
