Finally got around to seeing Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy... Great movie. Make sure you actually pay attention and don't just turn it on in the background while you play a game or something and expect to get everything. It runs a bit longer than I might like, but it's still very, very good.

The violence in it even caught me off guard at times, and I am not the squemish type. oh my fucking god that movie was so fucked up on so many different levels... i really wish i had read that warning... oh my god. i'm fucking speechless. good movie though It isn't that bad. Purely from memory it isn't much worse than something like Se7en. the violence in it was ten times as real, imo, as in Se7en. and: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!! + Show Spoiler + the fact that the protagonist basically becomes the devil that he's hunting was way fucked up. in Se7en the Brad Pitt character basically becomes a killer and gives the guy his final kill, but in the end, he's just a fucked up dude who got screwed over. the protagonist in I Saw the Devil slowly becomes a monster throughout the movie, and like the cannibal said, starts acting like them: torturing people, ignoring the consequences, and finally, destroying an innocent family, all to get his revenge, his "kicks". only at the end does he start to realize that he's destroyed his own humanity through his own choice. you get the feeling that he is slowly starting to enjoy toying with the serial killer, just like the serial killer enjoys toying with his victims, and like the killer, nothing he does can fill the void that is growing within him. in Se7en the bad guy is just straight up bad, but in IStD the bad guy, in a fucked up way, becomes a victim himself. he's still evil, but he's also getting slowly picked apart until he breaks.
difrent strokes for difrent folks though. i liked Se7en, i just thought this was a way more intense portrayal of evil and the loss of humanity, which made it really disturbing for some reason. Oh my god, I just finished "I saw the devil". It's like 10x more violent than se7en is, you must have some poor memory. As he said, the worst part is the emotional impact. So disturbing. So sad. I don't even know what I'm feeling right now. Is it just raw violence or is there a deeply disturb aspect as well? I ask because violence, even realistic violence with gore and gutting, really doesn't shock the average netizen anymore, especially for those that have been on /b/. I would say it's more psychological than violent, doesn't even hit my top 20 of goriest films really.
Damn, what is violent to you then? A Serbian Film or shit like that?

want a violent film? go and watch "I spit on your grave".
not exactly an oscar worthy movie but i found the second part very amusing.

Taken really good ? compared to the other recent crap maybe, but objectively it's barely entertaining. it's just some action-flick with barely any plot. besides daughter gets kidnapped -> father goes after her. is that really all it takes to make a really good movie now?
it's awesome cuz of the badassery liam neeson brings to his character

Only like the surprised ending, still feel like theres a few loose ends. Pretty sure sequels were planned before they even released the film, so I'm sure they'll lead into that. Saw Carter, Contraband and Game of Shadows recently, loved John Carter, Contraband was meh, Game of Shadows was good but not as good as the first. I agree, I'm quite sure that sequals will release, but I feel like there won't be any good sequels that were as good as the movie.
Cus we saw all the unique characters and it will cause a loooot of creative development to create a sequel that makes sense.

Well the violence is very realistic and provocative, I agree, but there's not a lot of it. It's certainly not a splatterfest like a traditional Hollywood or French shock-horror film. The reason it's so disturbing is because violence is used effectively, not excessively.

probably my favorite movie of all time

Cidade de Deus was a good movie.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/krzpL.jpg) Double Crap

Acting, writing, plot, graphics, selection of actors. Just utter crap.

Here are some movies from my country that might be appealing to the more adventurous movie viewers. They're good movies but it just not might appeal to everyone:
Godforsaken (Van god los) is based on a true story of two young guys who get involved in violent crime in a small border town (where a lot of drug trafficking takes place).
Black Book (Zwartboek) is the story of a young girl who becomes a prostitute for the german occupiers during WW2 in order to leak information to the dutch resistance.
Soldier of Orange (Soldaat van Oranje) Arguably the best dutch movie ever made (at least a lot of people will say it is). It follows the live of several students during the german occupation in WW2
Especially the last 2 movies should be interesting for those interested in WW2 as they both are very accurate depictions of what life was like in a nazi occupied country. Enjoy!
Interesting side note: the last 2 movies are also made by Paul Verhoeven, who is also known for movies such as Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers, Total Recall and Robocop

I watched Star Wars 6 and the Power Rangers movie last night.

Into the Blue
Pretty cool light action/adventure flick. Jessica Alba in wet bikini all the time is a nice bonus

This movie is so sick, it is a must watch!!
On another note: anyone got any movie for me to watch tonight? Preferably something with a plot twist or some action.

Watch The Prestige from 2006, from Christopher Nolan who brought you The Dark Knight.
Kinda ridiculous sometimes, but it has the plot twists you're looking for and is definitely a way above average movie.

Kind of underwhelmed. Nesbitt's character was all over the map and really hard to relate to or understand on any real level. The film kind of plays with your perception of who these people are, and at times it works well, but it's a somewhat short film and doesn't really accomplish much by the end. Ultimately, I ended up empathizing more with Neeson's character because at least he made a kind of sense. The acting and directing were fine, Nesbitt's character was just too thinly drawn.

If you liked The Prestige you might enjoy The Illusionist, Brick and Perfume. Pretty sick movies.

I didn't like Perfume. The novel was good, read it in school. But the main actor in the movie is just so underwhelming and doesn't fit the character at all. Just another adaptation where the original version is so much better.
@ Mithriel: You could try Time Crimes. I haven't seen it yet but it has been thoroughly recommended to me so I have it waiting for me on my HD. You can just go ahead and try it out, then tell me how it was =)

Try this then.

What's your guys' opinion on Primer? That movie has been hyped so much as a fascinating, intellectually engaging, twisted movie that I'm tempted to watch it.
