Was pretty worth it.
I've read the books but I don't even wanna watch this episode ): Seems to be just as depressing if not more so on the screen. Judging by the last few pages it seems to have been particularly brutal and gut wrenching.

oh my fucking god... I actually cried
and my stomach feels sick I don't know if I can sleep tonight

I'm sort of enjoying peoples' reactions, but a lot of people are going too far with acting like scared animals before slaughter at watching the episode. Catelyn Stark died with more class than a lot of these people are showing on social media, and she slit an innocent woman's throat.

Im glad those irrational nutjobs are dead. It was a frustrating season watching Robb/Mom/wife do stupid things and not paying for it. I feel the characters weren't organic in in their decisions they were presented with; knowing what I did about their character traits. The said the ending surprised me even though i've read a lot of Game of Thrones wikis and the first half of the last book, well done HBO.

expected something like this
but it was my fault for playing multiplayer games using a GoT character name & reading online forums and reading "the red wedding" being enough to be a spoiler

Can someone tell me what the significance of the song "Reign of Castamere" has, and when it played before that would have explained the situation when it played before the Stark's deaths?

I'd assume not. I mean he does want his daughter to get married at least. He even started the bedding ceremony, why not just keep him in the pit and kill him too. At least this way he gets something out of it and he gets his crazy revenge. Why would they keep him alive? There is no army (all killed by them), and no resources to gain from actually having him around. Look at the way those soldiers man handled him as they were brought out. There is power in ones name if this show has taught us anything. He is an uncle to the starks, he does hold some power and influence, not much, but some. Better than his daughter was ever gonna get. Edmure Tully, aka "the guy that got married", is Lord of Riverrun and ruler of the Riverlands. Walder Frey gains a lot by holding him hostage. he is a member of the rebel alliance and a traitor, so he isnt lord of anything now that the Lanisters won complete victory.
I can't be the only one who read this is the voice of darth vader

Queen Cersei explained last episode that the song was made as a tribute to how much Tywin Lannister fucked up two houses that rebelled against the Lannisters long ago. Literally wiping them off the map....the same way he's wiping the Starks off the map in this episode.

Man even knowing what was about to happen, the whole scene was just so hard to watch. I like the liberties the producers take (not sure if it's a spoiler if it already happened but those curious can always google red wedding). Anyhow, this TV version is just so much more painful. The fact that they really developed Rob (who was mostly a background character) makes it even more difficult to watch.

"Rains of Castamere". Cersei explained the story behind the song to Margaery last episode.
Basically, in a few words, Tywin Lannister executed an entire noble house (House Reyne*) into extinction.

Cersei mentions it in the previous episode iirc.
The song details the doom that shall come to any who cross the Lannisters. They are a house to be feared.

What's the Hound going to do with Arya? Are they going to become friends eventually? Seems really nice of him to rescue Arya, despite now knowing that there's no one really in power to pay for her. He can't be returning her to King's Landing, after he burned bridges at Blackwater bay..

Cersei explains it an episode or two ago in this season.
Basically, X house who is loyal to House Lannister rebels against House Lannister when Tytos (Tywin's Father) was Lord.
Tywin defeats the rebellious House and kills every member of their household, making the House extinct. He burns their home and now their castle lies deserted in ruins.
Something like that.

The song is essentially a tale of warning about another house that tried to mess with the Lannisters and how they pretty much destroyed said house. It's talked about at Joffery's wedding.

Cersei said House Reyne, I think. Castamere was just a place/castle I thought/..

Rains of Castamere is basically a Lannister song (it would be like those bard songs all the fantasy books feature). That's why Cat started to feel so uneasy.
