I knew something like this was coming (well, after season 2, I made a hit-list of most likely to get beaten down here), and was thrown a couple of curve balls this season until I stopped thinking cold and rationally about it.... and now this. Welp. Can't say they didn't do it to themselves, I guess.

And gains even more when Edmure provides Walder's daughter with an heir to Riverrun. After that, they can probably just toss him out. Walder will have a child who is Tully by name but Frey by nature.

+ Show Spoiler [speculation] + I think the dire wolves directly represent the livelihood/status of the starks! rob stark: Destroying people during war, made lannisters shit their pants, and was killed without anywhere to run bran/summer: not doing much, was at winterfell and now traveling rickon/shaggy dog: same as bran. jon snow/ghost: running around wandering in the wilderness. doesn't really follow orders; always doing his own thing. arya: also running around. lost, has no one really to trust and by inference: sansa/lady: was killed by the lannisters. i don't think sansa will be doing anything (at least, under/for the stark name), and is essentially living as a dead person/lost her soul Holy crap what an episode! So many "so close, yet so far"... I think jon is going to come back for ygritte though I don't think him bolting was a terribly unreasonable move. He just was fighting a bunch of people and wasn't sure if more people would show up. Then, random dire wolves show up - even though those are uncommon, he hasn't seen other dire wolves for a long time .

And while the Lannister's won, if they attempt to take control over everything, that will give more reason for there to be another rebellion that put Robert on the throne in the first place. Think balance of power politics.

How so? Joffrey is a bastard born of incest and has no true claim to his position. If Edmure provides an heir, he will be a trueborn heir of Tully and Frey blood. A rightful heir to the seat of Riverrun, even if he/she is just a Frey by nature because Edmure will be dead or in a dungeon somewhere.
