So I’ve followed this one since release, and while there aren’t many chapters (only up to 42!) this manga is probably my most hotly anticipated weekly release.
The series follows Denji, a simple minded orphan boy who inherited his fathers gambling debt and becomes a devil hunter alongside his pet dog, the Chainsaw devil Pochita, in order to pay off the debt he was saddled with and live his best life. These devils are embodiments of humanity’s fears and gain power by how feared they are.
This manga is one of the most metal things I’ve read since Berserk and seems to eschew a lot of the more tiresome tropes from manga. Characters die, you don’t always expect it, and they get a surprising amount of characterization and humor into the few chapters that have been released.
Anyone else been following this gem?

I'm reading it, and I gotta agree. It's so different from anything else atm, more refreshing. I find myself looking forward to it more than one piece etc.
It sometimes feels like the author is just throwing different characters at each other to see what happens, which is a style of storytelling I really enjoy. I feel like HxH was like that and it is so much better than super contrived plots IMO

But yeah, especially given the last chapter Chainsawman is definitely pushing the bounds of what I’d figure was acceptable for non-Seinen stuff.
Also; + Show Spoiler +I hope the rumors that Reze is the Gun Devil are right but it feels more like she’ll just be a normal non-Devil person if I can rely on the mangas unpredictability.

+ Show Spoiler +Color pages and a cover! Very uh... mature pose on the Angel Devil there... color pages well spent. Looks like Reze is confirmed to be not normal, adds fuel to the She’s-The-Gun-Devil theory. It’s looking more and more likely, but can’t ever say for sure with this manga imo. At the very least she’s a devilman or contracted with a devil of enough repute and strength to have sway over the Typhoon devil. Only question if she’s with the Gun devil organization or a more actually benevolent party.
Also, do we all think it’s best to use spoilers since the series is relatively new? Or should we not bother?

The series has a similar feel to it as it's predecessor, like Firepunch I like a lot of concepts but dislike most of the cast as they are acting very weird at times. I also don't like how I'm constantly forced to just accept stuff that doesn't get explained. Also strongly reminds me of Jujutsu Kaisen in both style as well as story.

Seriously, these past few chapters of her just absolutely kicking ass have been so good, I havent been so in love with a character in forever. I ship the shit out of Bomb and poor, poor, Denji.

+ Show Spoiler +Bomb beats the piss out of Denji, as expected. The real question is if this is going to be a business fight or a training fight.
Also, I need to keep count of how many god damned times Denji is reduced to a de-limbed torso. I feel like its going to be a fixture of the series.

When I reread some of the recent chapers I found out something interesting foreshadowing.
+ Show Spoiler +When Denji first meets Reze she says "Your face reminds me of my dead pet dog" - which is probally referencing Pochita's relationship to the gun devil and bomb devil. Chapter 40 page 8
Discovering things like that makes me appreciate the author's abillity to make things consistent with what we're presented, even if we don't interpret things the correct way initially.

I was having a similar experience, I reread through most of it yesterday morning, and what struck me was the potential timeline.
+ Show Spoiler +So, when we see Denji as a kid first meeting Pochita, if you look carefully, it looks pretty clear that Pochita was shot several times. Now, given that, I had first thought that this must have been some sort of immediate post-Vs. Gun Devil fight for Pochita, but I dont think that timeline works out. I don't know EXACTLY how old Denji was when his father died, but I do know that hes currently 16, and that the Gun Devil incident occurred 13 years ago. So I'd say MAYBE Denji was 6, so that would've put him finding Pochita around ten years ago, so I find it potentially likely the Gun Devil association thing has probably not only existed but been active for a decade.
Its cool to go back and just find those little things that help piece the story together!
