If anyone here knows this song, <3 to you. 'my jam' for a good bit.
Back before the internet as we know it today, I downloaded this song by accident in my quest to find hidden jams in those golden days . Back in the napster, carebear, morpheus, early-limewire days where there was no pandora and other stations linking u the similar-artists stuff.
Well I found it last nite after not being able to remember many details about it <3. Well only thing I remembered was that it was a 9th wonder beat but still took me a bit to find after having it bug me for a few days.
Really enjoying this song, and The Regiment in general. Great song because I also agree with it too. I'm glad when good sounding songs have something to say too, not just mindless lyrics.

While that was executed well, its representative of some of the lamer/lamest cliches in the hiphop play book: current hiphop sucks for reasons x,y,z (materialsim, little focus on quality flow, topics which 'real hiphop' doesn't approve) ; name drop artists we like to demonstrate ourselves as their spiritual successors; never name drop the artists you're presenting as inferior; ridiculous glorification of the past.
These guys exhibit a bit too much of a #realhiphop vibe. Its fine to have a style that is at odds with the mainstream, but actually have a style that is unique, not simply a reactionary antithesis to what is popular.

Well it's not such a focus on the shittiness, but moreso playing on the nostalgia of how good old-school hip hop was. Of course there's more content ragging on hip hop, but isn't it easier to rap about bad things rather than good ones?
Hip hop WAS a lot better back in the day, I hope it's not too cliche to point that out.

In your opinion, its not like everyone would agree with you.
In regards to the song, well, its not exactly bad, but I agree with Dali, it feels a bit silly and cliched.
It felt like I was listening to a well rapped youtube comment
What you guys think of the new Ghostface album? Imo Adrian Younge has done a fantastic job with the production,so good o_o Also call me crazy but that strum on the "I declare war" song reminds me so much of tristram theme from diablo 1 lol

It's a sick good album.. So happy i picked it up..
That song is pretty sick actually. 50 takes me back to my high school days when I had Get Rich or Die Trying playing a lot as well. Around the time Kanye came out with "through the wire" and then I got into college dropout and that style of hip-hop more (not into that Southern stuff too much, though Outkast was my fav group in my early days)....
I was never really too much into freestyling and battling or anything like that (like you posted earlier Pandemona)... but in HS one of my best friends (asian) got me into watching Jin on the BET friday battles (the good days of BET), and that guy was so sick back then. He took so many racist comments (even more after the show), but at his prime, Jin made everyone pay and it was awesome.
Not a bad compilation by this guy here. The 2nd battle vs skyzoo is the closest imo:
Representing the West Coast and Living Legends today with this song. Their favorite one of mine (like many "underground" artists they are pretty much hit-or-miss on songs - imo at least-).
But this song really made me want to dig into the beat and sample they used, which got me into hearing that type of music also (Jefferson Airplane).

Eh; Popular hip hop was a lot better back in the day. there's still plenty of good hip hop, just not popular right now.
I'm a bit worried about Cole's new album apparently he is the only one rapping on it, and he exclusively produced the whole thing. I like the idea of it, but its fucking tricky to sustain an entire album by yourself, there's no shame in bringing some guest verses or production to spice it up.
I liked the song he just dropped, but he production was pretty dull if I'm honest.
Damn theres a lot of good hiphop in this thread and i agree with the opinion that rap was better back in the days, the good stuff is pretty well hidden nowadays. But good rap is the only music which makes me feel at home. Down to earth shit like this for example , Pterradacto dancing with a broom while rapping in a kitchen ... priceless.
