Other than that, enjoyed being able to watch a mecha vs kaiju without the crazy pseudo-psychological overtures or having to think too much about what the fuck is actually going on (like while I was watching Eva 2.0, I mean I liked it, but in it's own time and place and when the mood strikes me). I welcome a sequel if they can keep it as entertaining. I mean, it's not hard with giant robots and monsters.

It is the point when I knew that the crew who made this movie gave zero fucks and just wanted to make the most amusing movie possible.

The movie gives no fucks at all and just wants the movie to be as dumb/awesome as possible. If they make a second one, I demand more nationally themed robots and tag team action. The closer the fights get to pro wrestling with plasma swords and elbow rockets, the better.

That's just my first impression. Sadly a lot of nowadays movies fall into this category. The only ones I enjoyed lately are mostly low budget northern european films, with low or non existent marketing but good story. EDIT: added some clarification

It was just another example of the movie being a live action anime.

Begone hipsters and your need for deep, independent, free market, eco-friendly french art films without dialog or actors. We need not your movies about the movies focused on the meaning of an unused, unoccupied coffee shop in Soviet Russia and the past relationships that were created there(shot in black and white, with a vintage filter). Your need for independent actors, directors, special effects and marketing are useless to us. This movie was never targeted at you, because they could never bring it down/up to your level. It is not a movie for you to enjoy, because you forgot how to long ago. It is for people who subscribe to the late Ryan Davis's view of the world, where we love dumb shit without shame. We adore our stupid, intentionally over the top giant robot movie that does not try act deep or meaning full in any way. We don't need it to be anything more than it is, a creation from a group of talented people who loved giant robots when they were children and wanted to bring that love to the big screen. We wanted a live action Saturday morning cartoon and we got it. Lump off.

I don't know why there are so many haters. Some people just have a hard time watching these types of movies. For sure these types of movie are usually just flat out bad, but Pacific Rim was tolerable and not that bad of a movie overall. Pacific Rim had its cheesy moments, but it wasn't the type of cheesiness that made you roll your eyes and face palm. I found myself smirking or letting out a small laugh during the cheesy moments in the movie. Movies are suppose to be entertaining right? Well, this movie surely delivered on that part. Great action scenes with badass looking robots and monsters. The human element was expected, but it wasn't weak and shallow like Transformers at least. I personally thought the characters were okay in my book. It's their opinion and they'll stick by it, which is fine. Pacific Rim is just another movie that is great to get your mind off things and just want to have fun watching.
