Old Aang lol Are you referencing the old master airbender shown in the trailer? I'm a bit confused about who that was. A:TLA SPOILERS BELOW (kinda) It seems that it can't be Aang, because Korra is the Avatar in this show... so there is no way that Korra and Aang can be alive at the same time. But he had arrow tattoos, so he had to be a master airbender. Perhaps Aang's son (Korra's dad) was also an airbender. If this were true, it would be huge, as it would mean that perhaps the airbenders didn't die off when Aang died (I'm assuming he's dead), and there is a chance that they could repopulate. That being said, I don't know how bending inheritance works with mixed marraiges (Aang and Katara), so I don't know if this is even possible. The only other explanation I can think of is that Korra is being visited by the spirit version of Aang, just how Roku used to sometimes visit Aang in A:TLA... but that wouldn't make sense because there is a scene in the trailer where the person with the arrow is training Korra, and Roku never trained Aang, not with bending at least. So I'm pretty sure that the person has to be Aang's son, which I think is awesome, because it would give hope that the airbenders could have a future. It is confirmed already that the old master airbender shown in the trailer is Aang's and Katara's son, Tenzin and he is not Korra's dad. The airbenders did die off and Tenzin is the last airbender alive after Aang passes away. Like someone said before there is no such thing as a bending inheritance. This could be seen that both Sokka and Katara are brother and sister but Sokka doesn't know how to bend and actually no one else it seems in their family, dad, mom, grandma, etc seem to be benders too. But if there is no bending inheritance I wonder what would happen in the case where for example in the Fire Kingdom if the royal family had no firebenders born. Who would become the next firelord or is it only based on birth right not firebending ability and it was just a coincidence every firelord so far was literally the strongest firebender during their reign. + Show Spoiler +tenzin is the last airbending master but all of his sons/daughters were also clearly air benders

First episode was alright.

I can kinda see how the air book is going to go. Question is, if she's mastered 3 elements already, what would the next 2 books be?

Cant wait for this *squee*

It's only going to be a two season show, so there really is only one book beyond this

This series is only set to be one season of 26(12/14 split) episodes(there is an option for more). The series isn't split into books based around elements.
Also, I guess it was confirmed along with one of the announcements for the show that by the time of Legend of Korra, the entirety of Team Avatar(Sokka, Aang, Toph, Suki, Zuko) except for Katara have died in between The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra.

I just assumed that since he was the only one it seems thats an airbender master I took it that Aang's and Katara's other kids didn't have the ability and he was the last airbender. Should spoil your post for the people who didn't watch yet. I'm already so hooked watching the first episode. Cant wait for rest.

Wow. Got to wonder who the lucky guy was that got to put it in her. I mean, presuming she turned out to be slim and tender.

Ha I actually am excited and it's funny I saw this thread today because I literally just finally watched the last episode of The Last Airbender 2 hours ago. Should be a sweet show!

Avatar was amazing. Though I missed a lot of episodes since I didn't really watch a lot of cable. Probably going to download all 3 seasons in preparation for this :o

Just watched the leak premier. I'm excited. I wonder what parallel... + Show Spoiler +The bender antibenders conflict has to our present day society though. Is it the fight between the rich and the poor? Does it reflect things like the occupy movement? Curious. The bridge in the episode looks like the Golden Gate Bridge. Aang's statue is like the statue of liberty.
I feel like this series will be more relatable than the last, as genocide isn't something the West cares about.
I also like the new name of the Fire nation. It reminds me of the US, if the US used to be a nation bent on military world domination :D Old fire nation reminds me the most of Nazi Germany.

An extremely Imperialist island nation reminded you of Nazi Germany and the USA?
Try scratching that brain of yours.
Can you think of one imperialist, industrialized, asian island nation? If the US and Nazi Germany are what comes to mind, you might want to reconsider how clever you are.
Avatar wasn't about some poorly disguised political message. They aren't going to go try and solve the 1%/99% issue. They are going to tell a story which appeals to kids and adults at the same time, hoping to repeat the succes that was Avatar.
Avatar 1 was a very simple story. Don't expect deep political commentary. They are going to end up with a normal good v evil story. Kids don't care much for shades of gray.

I was extremely entertained by the premiere, and coming in completely blind after the last airbender, am intrigued by the story. Metal benders were a nice touch!

I think kids should get an interest for the shades of grey. Perhaps you underestimate some of them.

The only complaint I have with the new series that I can infer from the trailer is that some of the voice acting seems kind of weak (voice acting in the original was mostly good). Im sorry but your giving avatar way too much credit. The writing mediocre. And the series started off pretty slow and uninteresting. It was a good show. Not great
No offense, but you haven't been exposed to much "shounen" anime if you seriously believe that Avatar is "substantially" better than *any of them.

I thought you had the big boy pants on.
You might think that kids should get an interest for shades of grey. Doesn't mean that they do.
Overtly complex naratives are the bane of any children show. They have trouble figuring out 3x7. They aren't exactly ready for questions on morality.
