Old Aang lol Are you referencing the old master airbender shown in the trailer? I'm a bit confused about who that was. A:TLA SPOILERS BELOW (kinda) It seems that it can't be Aang, because Korra is the Avatar in this show... so there is no way that Korra and Aang can be alive at the same time. But he had arrow tattoos, so he had to be a master airbender. Perhaps Aang's son (Korra's dad) was also an airbender. If this were true, it would be huge, as it would mean that perhaps the airbenders didn't die off when Aang died (I'm assuming he's dead), and there is a chance that they could repopulate. That being said, I don't know how bending inheritance works with mixed marraiges (Aang and Katara), so I don't know if this is even possible. The only other explanation I can think of is that Korra is being visited by the spirit version of Aang, just how Roku used to sometimes visit Aang in A:TLA... but that wouldn't make sense because there is a scene in the trailer where the person with the arrow is training Korra, and Roku never trained Aang, not with bending at least. So I'm pretty sure that the person has to be Aang's son, which I think is awesome, because it would give hope that the airbenders could have a future. The Airbender is Aang and Katara's son. Bending also isn't hereditary, it's based purely on spirituality, so Airbenders can be born from anyone, really...although having a teacher definitely helps pass on the skills (this was explained by the creators around the time when Legend of Korra was first announced). Oh, thanks for the info! I know there is a lot of lore stuff out there outside of the actual tv series, but I haven't had the time to look into any of it.

the airbender is actually the grandson iirc

Tenzen is katara's and aangs son, who has to train the new avatar (no relation)

Im sorry but your giving avatar way too much credit. The writing mediocre. And the series started off pretty slow and uninteresting. It was a good show. Not great

Not great I think you're giving television in general way too much credit if you're calling Avatar's writing mediocre.

Well considering I consider 90% of tv complete shit I would say no I dont give tv credit.
Edit- Im just pretty picky how I spend my time watching TV. Havent had a TV for 6 years. So when i watch a show I want it to make me think or pretty well thought out. I just have different taste I guess.
Avatar is a good show and I recommend anyone to watch the series. I just wouldent say it was one of the best things ever I seen

Stop arguing and watch the first two episodes!

Yeah, the first episode is pretty much exactly what I expected. Everything seems a little more grown up and IMHO is a nice transition between the generations.. Just beware of the avatar sub-reddit, they don't care about spoilers.

It is confirmed already that the old master airbender shown in the trailer is Aang's and Katara's son, Tenzin and he is not Korra's dad. The airbenders did die off and Tenzin is the last airbender alive after Aang passes away. Like someone said before there is no such thing as a bending inheritance. This could be seen that both Sokka and Katara are brother and sister but Sokka doesn't know how to bend and actually no one else it seems in their family, dad, mom, grandma, etc seem to be benders too.
But if there is no bending inheritance I wonder what would happen in the case where for example in the Fire Kingdom if the royal family had no firebenders born. Who would become the next firelord or is it only based on birth right not firebending ability and it was just a coincidence every firelord so far was literally the strongest firebender during their reign.

Perhaps there was some kind of special blood that ran in the house of firelords. That allowed every son or daughter to inherit extreme fire bending power.

wouldnt surprise me if they chose the next firelord based on his bending strength

I was sad when it was mentioned that + Show Spoiler +Sokka was dead. I would have liked to see him as a crazy old man but I like that they've only had Katara around in her entirety so far. It makes sense to not overload the new cast with old members.
I really hope they have some kind of revelation or tie-up episode where they sort of tie up any of the loose ends. With continued good writing though, they could actually explain that in the present without using flashbacks, they managed to do some of it in the first episode.
