Also, from your complaint in July, Guts brought a behelit to an island of sorcerers/witches. Sorcerers tend to be people who crave power. We already saw during the entrance to the island that they are quick to attack. Then the next chapter we get asked the question, is it Guts's behelit or is it meant for someone else and he's just carrying it? Then this chapter we got a lot of mystical creatures acting very strangely towards the newcomers, but put in their place by the witch who ended up being the elf king. And we finally saw a funny coup attempt by Puck.

What happens when a jealous or power hungry sorcerer steals the behelit and kills the elf king in a real coup attempt? The portal to hell is opened, corrupting the magical creatures, and all hell breaks loose on an island that is already pretty crazy. It's all being foreshadowed. To me, the only question is if the Elf King can heal Casca before it all happens (or does so with a dying breath) or if the attempt is a failure and more friends die with no Casca progress. Also, does the island end up as a hell hole or does Guts defeat enough of the monsters and return the island to peace under a different ruler or even save the Elf King?

I think next chapter we'll get a little more world building and some progress with the Casca plotline, but the chapter after that will be crazy.

as soon as an apostle apears Guts would immediately know, i dont see how one apostle is supposed to kill the elf king with the all star line up right there unless its another God Hand

My bet is Morda http://www.mangapanda.com/berserk/343/14
She ain't an apostle yet, but she's got some powerful magic and questionable ethics. She also says, "No matter how much we train and polish our skills we're still stuck in this damn island. We might as well be rotting away."

A little sleeping spell/potion on Guts to grab the behelit, and then it wouldn't be shocking that Morda kills the Elf King as her sacrifice to become an apostle. The Elf King's weakness would be a stab in the back by a friend. Morda becomes an apostle (probably one that is rotting for the irony). Becoming an apostle will wake Guts from his sleep, but everything will go to hell as the Elf King's magic is broken.

There's a lot of foreshadowing building up to this, even if some of my details are wrong.

you dont steal Behelits though if she was supposed to have it it would have fallen out of his pocket where she would find it, plus i dont think she even knows he has it

plus the sacrifice is supposed to be someone close, something real personal, the elf king would just be someone she knows not someone she deeply cares about, plus its questionable wether the god hands can even force the elf king into there realm and then kill her

i wouldnt be surprised if Griffith launchs an assault but i dont think its going to be like

She knows he has it. Gedfring (the first elder sorcerer they meet) called out Guts for having it, then when Guts showed it to the group, Puck took it and started playing with it and showing it off to all the witches. Most of them find it disgusting. Morda is sitting in the back seeming uninterested, yet we know she has a dream of getting off the island.
http://www.mangapanda.com/berserk/345/10

Behelits will come to their owners possession any way they must. It's not all "oops, it fell" moments. The fact that Puck took it so easily from Guts points to it not being his. We also don't know the full relationship between Morda and the Elf King, but the chances of being a child saved from war/abuse by the elf king is high. The elf king could even be like a surrogate parent to her. There's a possibility for some expanding on that next chapter.

I may have to push back my "all hell breaks loose" chapter prediction by 1 because I do think the relationship between the apprentice witches and the elf king will have to be established for it to have meaning. Plus we have something for Casca (I hope) and I think all that will take at least two chapter. Then we have the betrayal.

Hyperbola, stories need tension and release and right now we're in the release. It can't try to be tense 100% of the time or it all turns to blandness. You need bad to have good, dark to have light, and calm to have chaos. This is the calm that will make the chaos all the more satisfying. I think this Island arc is going to be awesome when we re-read it in 5 years when it's done. It's just that the setup is painfully slow when we're reading it less than monthly.

And I should say that I'm only going over one possible future. Another possibility is that the 3 elder sorcerers that are not Gedfring could take the behelit to try to use it to stop the evil, but instead destroy everything. They're some creepy old dudes that presumably have a ton of power. Maybe they even sacrifice their own students, but Morda the rebellious one is able to battle them a little and gives Guts + friends a chance.

Whatever the case, Guts has brought the behelit, an agent of power and chaos, to a group of powerful magic users. He has unintentionally destroyed the peace of the island and nobody knows it yet. There is almost a 0% chance they leave the Island in the same condition as when they entered.

The fact that Puck took it so easily from Guts points to it not being his

the fact that Guts has a brand proves its not his, Guts is a sacrifice he cant be an apostle

seems like your just building assumptions on top of assumptions to even come close to making your theory realistic, just because she said one line doesnt mean she actually wants to leave the island that badly, and in the first place she could just join Guts group if she felt that strongly about it stealing the Behelit would be the plan B in this scenario

chibi witchs teacher mentioned the behelit was an item beyond absolutely anyones understanding or control so i really dont think its going to have a part to play unless Griffith launchs an assault i think there just going to solve the casca problem, one way or another, and then just leave

also dont forget there in a super safe zone thats even better then the mine casca stayed in that kept her safe, might not even be possible for the Behelit to activate there or for Griffith to send forces

I don't get this perspective at all, but people keep saying it. Don't you remember the Golden Age arc? There were dozens of consecutive chapters where everything was perfect for Guts. They won every battle, he was getting close to Casca, Griffith was a rising star in the kingdom, he had the love of this friends and the respect of the whole kingdom, it was a close to paradise as he could possibly want. But then he lost it. That is what made the hell afterwards so poignant and powerful. Gore and mayhem are incredibly shallow compared to true loss. To keep the power in the story you need to show more loss, but Guts has already lost everything, so we need a time for him to get stuff back that he cares about. A peace, a break in the storm before we can move on.

I also predict that soon all hell will break lose again, but I'm not sure what form it will it take. It could also be that Casca is restored but then Griffith takes her or something like that. We also need more of Guts following the Skull Knight's footsteps somehow. I think perhaps his Behelit will be transformed into a weapon against the God Hand just like Skull Knight's.

Looks like Casca might actually get cured soon. By soon, I mean in 2 years. I am going to kind of miss mentally broken Casca. Her innocence really stands out considering how messed up everything is in the world. At the same time shit always happens because of how stupid she tends to act and how useless she is so I am glad that will probably change.

This year's 19th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine is announcing on Friday that Kentarou Miura's Berserk manga will go on hiatus until early 2017.

Well looks like they aren't going to cure Casca in time then. Got a feeling they are going to do some sort of quest to find stuff to cure her. But I do hope that next chapter we end off with her fixed and not being a completely useless and always causing problems

Not surprised, to be a true Berserk fan is to be a struggler. While I appreciate Miura's dedication to creating fantastic art, it does get in the way of getting new content published. Would be nice to see him follow the ONE (from One Punch Man) approach and go light on the detail while moving the writing forward but knowing his pride in his work, that's doubtful.

ONE releases like as much chapters as Miura per year though, when it comes to One Punch Man.
But he is working on more than one project, like Mob Psycho 100, so...

I didn't realize the chapter was out: http://mangastream.com/r/berserk/347/3692/1

I don't think they will like what they'll see in casca's dream
then again, I didn't think it would advance that much in this chapter alone :D

not sure if the elf king has any idea and what will happen there...

in other news, young animal did an interview with miura and president of hakusensha/toriyama akira's former editor, and some interesting viewpoints were raised.

here it is translated:

Oh my. Underestimating her inner throughts a bit there, guys.

That president has some rather old fashioned views on manga and editing. And he didn't want Griffith to go all evil god, which I myself thought was really interesting from a storytelling perspective.

Why do I even bother?
This entire chapter was literally "lol you should totally read the next chapter" and "too bad it's in 2017"
Fuck this manga. I hope Miura quits writing for good and this was the final chapter.

Lol dude what? Did you just start reading the manga or something? This is pretty standard pace since the last 20 years. If you don't like it then stop reading but no need to hate so hard. We're lucky they at least got into the dream state, could have just been a filler chapter of them talking about it.

About the hiatus, keep in mind that Miura likes to be very active part of all Berserk related projects so he's probably working on season 2 of the anime as well as the new game Tecmo is making. I'm sure we'll have some great chapters next year, can't wait.
