Was very impressed. Had heard about it through other forums and such, had 0 idea of what the plot was about or who the characters where. Enjoyed it immensly.

the 1st 3 volumes of the manga are almost like prototypes compared to rest of the series, at middle of the third volume the art improves so much it almost feels like its a completely different manga. It's just so strange everything changes literally in just a different page D:

Sorry for bumping again but I think everyone here should check out the thread I made for Reddit.

I pose an interesting concept to any Berserk fans and have even got started on an intro for my Idea, just as a short concept of how simple yet entertaining it could actually be, and how it could pose yet another method for people to be introduced to the greatness Kentaro has given us...

Everytime this gets bumped up I pray its because there's finally a new manga issue out. Sadly this is rarely so...

So I've watched the Golden Age Arc II movie already and saw that the third installment was coming out in winter. That made me curious, so I went to the wiki page and see that it's release is slated for Feb 1. The one that just came out was released way back in June in Japan, does this mean there's no way we'll be seeing the 3rd one before summer at the earliest?

I would like to say thank you, thanks to this post ive finally decided to pick up Berserk.
I knew Berserk since a long time but was lazy to see how it was, ppl would always say how badass the "guy" was and i finally understand it now, yep i get it now. Been reading the manga non-stop.

At the top of the game, we play by diferent rules.

Chap 332, the COCKatrice looked so funny.. it's really a COCK if you check the two bags below its beak.

Surprised to see this.

I literally spend 15 hours this Christmas break watching the Anime Series and then going back and reading all 37 Volumes.

It was one of the most epic days of my life.

I'm dying for someone to point me to a similarly incredible Manga series.

It's hard to match Berserk. Especially, as I'm guessing you want something a tad more mature and complex in story than your run-of-the-mill anime. So:

Monster: I always try to mention this one as I feel it's incredibly underrated. It's basically a psychological-thriller about a Japanese Doctor in Germany who inadvertently saves the life of a serial killer. It's a pretty long series both in manga and anime (74 eps). Though my main criticism with it is that it feels overly melodramatic at times and a lot of it could have been compressed into a more succinct series.

Claymore: Bit more like Berserk, though as time goes on the story kind of loses its luster and starts to acquire that JRPG feel to it. Kind of like Inuyasha, but it doesn't suck ass. Still a good series overall.

Shiguri: Personally, I didn't like this one at all but I can see how others might. I love a gory and dark anime but this one just feels way too gratuitous in that regard to the point where I have a hard time taking it seriously. Somewhat boring at times as well.

Ghost in the shell: You're probably familiar with this one, lol. If not, what the hell are you doing here? Go watch/read now!

Black Lagoon: Love this one. It's very similar to Cowboy Bebop, though not in the future and not quite as good. It is however, full of humor and much darker.

I would recommend Shingeki no Kyoijn. Great story, great characters (although the author isn't afraid to murder them lol), the right amount of gore to make the world seem really fucked up in the good way.

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

Nominated for the 4th Manga Taisho Awards (2011) and winner of the 35th annual Kodansha Manga award for Best Shounen, Nominated for the 16th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize (2012)

It also gets an anime this spring, which hopefully isn't censored too much:

Other recommendations: Vinland Saga, Historie, Dorohedoro, Vagabond and Tower of God (ToG is not as mature and a bit more comedy, but still a great read).

2 years ago, I spent a couple of days in the winter holidays carefully reading Berserk in a dark room while listening to the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack. Somehow, I thought that would be epic. I was spot on!

It's a pity this author takes such long breaks. Damn shame. Also, when you read Berserk, you realize the potential manga has, and it's just too bad other material of this quality can't be found!

I will look over some of the suggestions above in time, but I am familiar with Gantz, and that is crap!
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

I would recommend Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (4 episodes), I don't know if it exists in the manga since I haven't read it :p, but this one kind of catches the vibe of Berserk, the closest thing I have come across anyway.

It is very good, up there with Berserk in my opinion.

Gantz isn't really similar, but I still think it's awesome. It picks up after the Buddhist Temple mission and is amazing up until part 3 which is stretched a ton, but still fairly good.
Life is too short to take it seriously.

Read Vinland Saga! I've recommended it to quite a few of my friends who've enjoyed Berserk and they've all loved it. The drawings are top notch and the fights are great! Also, it's about Vikings, how can you go wrong with that?
