Big let down.
Seriously stop watching (and posting). This season's been pretty good relative to the others and this was one of its better episodes. Every week I come on here to see idiots posting about how horrible X episode was.
So because I thought this filler of an episode was bad, with many flaws in it's imagery and vocal storytelling - I should piss off and stop watching? How about no.
I agree that this season has been "pretty good" (in Walking Dead Series standard) but that's also about it. Think about it. What has happened in this season? About as much as all the other seasons, people are just more hardened and think more apocalyptic. Which in itself creates a much more enjoyable zombie flick. But since the "bad" actors and characters have either been eliminated or left without any goodbyes(still, what the fuck was up with Carol just driving away to... where exactly?) the show will never be horrendous like the farm season. I hope.
I still enjoy this show because it has zombies, a couple of good characters, and is the only thing of interest on tpb atm. Oh and it is based on an absolutely brilliant comic.

Perhaps someone else found the couple (Governor crew?!?!?) and cut off her leg for some reason. Was it clear that the zombies were eating the woman? Could have been anyone. That said, my interpretation is that they died. The point of the sequence was to show how death is a constant threat, and that Rick's ambivalence towards allowing the two into the prison is justifiable.
I think it was also to show that the decay of society is everywhere and not just limited to the group. People who will pull a shane or carol exist everywhere

I'd be interested to hear someone explain/defend/etc season 1 to me since plenty of people seem to think it was good. A friend recently convinced me to check out season 4, and I watched episode 2. The overall level of slaughter and chaos was enjoyable; one particular cool thing was the zombie's face being mushed through the fence. Based pretty much on that, I've seen everything else by now. But season 1 I had watched over a year ago and it really turned me off to the show. It's why I hadn't watched any more until just recently. I honestly didn't and still don't understand how it made it to a second season. The very first episode was actually pretty good, but it plummets hard from there.
Here are some things I thought made that season an embarrassment:
- Covering themselves in zombie guts and walking through the crowd of zombies... facepalmed
- (Worst one) The black/mexican gang who actually were maybe not a gang and were taking care of the people at a "secret" old folks home or something, and the leader of them says "I was the janitor"... awwww, don't that just tug at your little heartstrings........................ horrible writing omfg
- The zombie ambush at the camp... no lookout/preparation, very slowly walking zombies suddenly being right next to ppl, etc... just dumb (pretty much as retarded as first episode in ssn 2 where Dale is looking down an open highway with binoculars and somehow doesn't notice a swarm of zombies until they're like 25 feet away)
- Crazy scientist and self exploding building... herp derp
- (This is some general ranting) It was almost entirely moral/emotional stuff and very, very little practical/survival stuff in a show about a zombie apocalypse. Nobody behaves as if there is a zombie apocalypse happening. A lot of things they do make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I hate to use a ssn 2 example for this, but I'm gonna. In ssn2 episode 1, when Sophie is running and Rick finds her, he tells her to hide in that little nook by the river, then run away after he lures the zombies away. Why run after they're gone? There aren't other zombies scouring the river for lost children. Season 1 was thoroughly plagued with retarded stuff like this. The constant nonsense makes it really hard to connect with the show.
As I said, I had liked the first episode. The whole time Rick was wandering inside and outside of the hospital was really well done. Morgan (the black guy) was a good fit for a character to introduce Rick and the audience to the new world. I was pretty forgiving of the tacky tv nonsense in the episode (ex. black zombie wife at the front door... Rick walks over and looks through peephole and walks back... Is the house soundproof? Great new flooring / doesn't creak / footsteps don't make sound / etc. I thought they were trying to be super quiet because if the zombies hear them they will start banging on the door and stuff. Rick at the door was an intense/scary moment that they drained all of the intensity from, because really they just wanted to do a camera shot through the front door peephole. It's kinda silly they did this, but I can understand why they did it and it didn't really ruin anything.) So what about season 1 did you enjoy?
- Covering themselves in zombie guts and walking through the crowd of zombies... facepalmed
I could believe it. Zombies are pretty dumb, maybe their prime sense of detection is smell. Neat gross out scene too.
- Crazy scientist and self exploding building... herp derp
Ok, the exploding building made me raise an eyebrow, but I totally understood where the doc was coming from. He knew how terribly bleak the world had become and was offering them a mercy killing rather than the hell they would go on to experience.
- (Worst one) The black/mexican gang who actually were maybe not a gang and were taking care of the people at a "secret" old folks home or something, and the leader of them says "I was the janitor"... awwww, don't that just tug at your little heartstrings........................ horrible writing omfg
meh, I'll give you this one. I wanted some bloodshed!

It's been awhile since I've seen s1 but weren't they in the woods? Even so, back then everyone was still fresh and the less adaptive people hadn't died out yet. It makes sense they'd be so lax on the security. Not to mention all they had at the time was a camp in the hills with no walls or fence.
So what about season 1 did you enjoy?
- Morgan
- Everyone is still so very naive and there was actual humor in the show. I mean it makes sense now that things are so bleak, but I do so miss a little lightheartedness.
- The Shane, Lori, Rick triangle before it became unbearably repetitive.
- Shane and Dale. Two of the best characters that died too early ;;
- That awesome little arc with Merle chained on top of the roof. Very suspenseful shit. Hell I just miss Merle
- Hope. When it seemed civilization was just around the corner. Also, s1 gives the most insight into how the apocalypse even came about (something I desperately want to know more of...).

I don't know if there's any big secret regarding this. If everybody is infected, then at some point people started dying and a chain reaction ensued. I guess the only question is how everybody became infected at the exact same time, but that probably doesn't have a satisfactory answer, because there isn't one that could be plausible.

Haven't they done simulations on virus' and found that you could easily infect a huge portion of the population over a few days? With people flying in and out of countries I think it's a pretty reasonable assumption.
I think best part of season 1 was the constant changing scenery. I think in 6 episodes we had more different settings then all of s2, s3 and s4 so far combined hah I'm not a fan of the whole "stay in one place for 1+ seasons and just run errands" concept. And also the zombies were more of a threat it seemed before, felt more scared of them.
That's about the biggest (and one of the only) complaints I have about the show now

Yep. This was the best episode of a rather shitty season for me. Much less fake moments and absolutely ridiculous scenarios.
Weird to see Carol leave and I wonder what Rick will tell the group.
Probably something ambiguous like Carol has been "dealt with". Tyreese will be happy for the time being, and then go berserk against her and Rick when he inevitably runs into her at some point. We require moar drama after all.
Funny how so many seem to think this was the best episode of the season (not that it was absolutely amazing up till now, but still). I realize that was a filler episode but I thought it was a bland 40 minutes which didn't bring anything much interesting/surprising/new.

I liked it better when they were constantly on the move aswell.

This was the first episode of watching any of them from any seasons where I got bored.. I thought it was terrible too, nothing happened at all.
By this criterium, half of the total episodes have nothing happening in them. Damn does anybody remember the long slow drag that was second half of season 3 with many episodes being boring as hell ?
Is this season any good so far? Season 3 (and season 2 and well, basically ever episode except for the pilot) frustrated me so much that I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it yet.
I did just watch this though, and if you're a Walking Dead hater I highly recommend you watch it. Really explains why I sometimes hate this show so much.
It's definetely not my favorite show and there is a lot of it that I dislike. It's still entertaining enough and has its moments to make me watch. S4 is more of the same.
As much as that guy's voice is annoying, I wasn't aware of the cut on budget from S1 to S2 nor the fact that he was fired. That explains a lot. S1 remains my favorite.

Pretty much what I got from all that as well, which was an insightful explanation as to why s2 was such a train wreck
Aside from that the vid gave me a good laugh, as that's the same voice I think of in my head as I read all the whiny nitpicky comments....which is the other sizable chunk of the vid.
