BBT is an awesomely entertaining show. However, they are on a major US network. The humor is often very cheap and easy, but that is what the show aims for.. They need to perform a balancing act of attracting self-proclaimed nerdy folk while also appealing to the general audience. What you see them do is provide a little something for everyone.. Hardcore nerdiness and science references for some, widely-accessible humor for others.. If they did not choose this formula, but rather tried to make the script and jokes intelligent and more complex, the show would not be on tv because the # of viewers would not be sufficient.
It's not an ideal brilliant nerd comedy by any means.. If it was, it sure as hell wouldn't be on CBS.
I have seen every episode.. I love this show!!! it took a few episodes for me to really start feeling it but once i got through a few i fell in love... awesome show, definetely suggest it!
this show is pretty funny. if you're able to look past what they stuff in to cater to the largest audience, a lot of the jokes are very well written. you've gotta expect a certain amount of pandering to idiots in a tv sitcom, beyond that the show is great. it helps that kaley cuoco is an ultra babe

She was a babe in Season 1 and 2. I don't know if I've just grown to accept her looks or they've toned down her cuteness to something just overall overdone on television.
Good show. The difference is they are living the 'Sterotype' of a nerd. They play video games, read comics and are super smart. Being a 'Nerd' doesn't just mean you follow those items.

edit: Sheldon in the ballpit doing the Bazinga! over and over again was one of the funniest things i've ever seen on television
Umm, just because they use a live audience doesn't mean it isn't canned laughter. The laughs are very heavily edited.
- how could you possibly watch this show and think that is real laughter?
The Office is a smarter comedy than Two and a Half Men. This is objectively true as far as I am concerned. I do not believe this is hearsay, nor a mere matter of consensus. If everyone else in the world thought that Two and a Half Men was the 'better' comedy they would all be wrong.
Catcher in the Rye is a better novel than Twilight even though one's preference for either is a matter of 'opinion'.
Yeah. You may want to look up the meaning of the word "objective". I would be interesting in your normative framework that allowed you to come to this conclusion. Unless you provide one that works outside your own little world, I will just assume there is yet another child left behind.
+1. consolidate doesnt seem to understand the context in which "objectively" is supposed to be used.
OT: this weeks episode was pretty disappointing and uninteresting imo. in fact there were only 2-3 "good" episodes for me this season, the best being ep 7, "the apology insufficient".

Haters gonna hate.
I love this show, it is so funny! I re-watched all the episodes and I almost peed myself a few times .
Can all the haters just leave this thread alone. We get it you dont like it. Yet all you come with is your opinion. We have our opinion that we like it. Let's just agree to disagree.
Well, the shows has definitely gotten stale imo. Used to love the show but it became a chore to watch somewhere in season 3 and now I only catch it sporadically.
The jokes are more tired; many told with similar setups and it just feels like they're digging from the same well.
Don't know why people keep bringing up the nerdy aspect. Some shallow references to comic book heroes and the like does not make a show nerdy. Who hasn't at least heard of X-Men, Superman, Star Wars, LOTR, Trek, etc which make up 90% of the references?
Season 2 was the best. Characters were at their most likeable and it wasn't nearly as Sheldon centric. Still, when I do catch the show, Sheldon and Penny scenes are still golden.
No need to hate though. If BBT isn't your thing, there's plenty of good comedies to watch.
Mean shit, some other good to great comedies on Thursday include: Community, Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock, and The Office.
Personally, really enjoying Community & Parks.
O and - Don't have an issue with it but BBT does use laugh tracks. Chuck Lorre is renown for his use of laugh tracks and 3 camera setup.

Well even if it is true that there is a live audience, do yo really think that any real person would laugh that loud and that consistently at a comedy show? And even if they did, and all the laughter is 100% real, it doesn't change that fact that it is still a terrible thing that should have completely died off almost a decade ago. It's not the laughter being fake that makes it bad.
Anyway, I like the show. Its not great but its funny enough to be worth my time, although it is probably the worst comedy show that I do follow, just a bit below How I Met Your Mother (as it so happens, the only other show with a laugh track that I do watch).
