the experiment/das experiment. Very good movie not sure how well known it is tho.
Worth noting that this is based on an actual experiment. The premise is that a bunch of volunteers partaking in a medical study are used to simulate the conditions of a jail, with one group playing the wardens and another playing the inmates. The experiment yielded pretty shocking results, shocking enough to be made into a movie.
I thought the acting was kind of poor, but the fact that it's a recreation of actual events helps with the suspension of disbelief. Fact is stranger than fiction.
We talking about the Stanford Prison Experiment here? Because I might have to watch this movie now.
As for my picks,
Das Leben Der Anderen is fantastic.
Lola Rennt is probably the weirdest movie I've ever seen.
Memento has to be one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life, and it was barely advertised (if at all) here in the States.
Also, I'd say any foreign film counts as a hidden gem for us in the States.

Your argument is that if you take average people and put them in a forest with a camera they're likely to start raping, murdering, and pillaging just because they can, and your justification for this argument is that some soldiers involved in war, an activity in which you are generally immersed in daily violence and death, adopted sadistic traits.

Sorry but if you thought that argument made any sense at all, continuing the discussion is pointless.
You just come off as a pretentious prick. Contribute to the thread or stop talking. I haven't seen you post one movie yet, all you do is say "OMG that movie suckz i've seen movies 30 times better than dat"
Okay so I watch a LOT of korean movies and I would consider myself an expert, here's the ones you dont want to miss (I know a lot of these arent hidden gems but since its foreign im assuming not everyone knows about it)
- memories of murder (murder, suspense, GREAT movie) - silmido (war) - taeguki: brotherhood of war (war, mentioned before) - the classic (romance, mentioned before, didnt like it 1st time) - il mare (korean original of "the lake house" BEST romance movie ever) - a moment to remember (romance, great soundtrack) - a dirty carnival (gangster, the only decent korean gangster flick) - my wife is gangster (comedy, dont watch sequels!) - sympathy for mr. vengeance (part of old boy trilogy, first film much better than old boy) - my boyfriend is type B (romance) - young bride (rom com) - secret (romance starring Jay chou, chinese)
someone recommended 3-iron, i thought this was SO BAD, maybe i didnt understand the movie.
ALso I have YET to see a good japanese movie and i've seen LOTS unfortunately. be careful with Jap movies guys! Battle Royale was "ok"
Amazing, amazing movie. Totally outshone by Oldboy (and the rest of the Vengeance trilogy), Memories of Murder, etc. but just as good if not better imo.
I have to second.. and third.. and forth this. Absolutely one of my favorites of all times. I honestly think this is better than or on par with Old Boy.
i mustve missed something lol... i thought chaser was not bad and old boy was not that good at all -_____- i did throroughly enjoy sympathy for mr vengeance though.

This was actually one of those movies I expected to be AMAZING but let me down. It was pretty overrated IMO.
FINALLY someone who agrees with me. The film is a travesty. The English accents, the location, the cliché, the awful acting, the ridiculous storyline. Everything was just oversimplified, cliché codswallop.

Haha among the people I'm normally with two of the most overrated movies we agree on are V for Vendetta and The Boondock Saints.

wtf how can you even compare the two?
chaser was good for what it was: a simple thriller. It didn't leave you thinking like oldboy did. It's just a shallow thriller that's extremely well executed and leaves you feeling really shitty/pissed off at the end. Oldboy is just so much deeper and can't simply be labelled as an action-flick or thriller. It's the type of movie you can't really forget after a few days. So, comparing the two just because they're both korean cinema is pretty retarded.. it's like comparing speed and pulp fiction.
To everyone whinging about IMDB or RT not being generally representative of good film, can I ask, what in your opinion are the best movies ever made? I'm just getting the feeling that people are putting a lot of weight behind their opinions without realise that they're just that, opinions.

Maybe you should quote who you're talking to
OMG. I'm obviously talking to the same person I've been talking to for the last like 5 posts in a row??? Sorry but you people are really stupid, I can't stand talking to you anymore, it's just painful. I feel like I'm getting dumber by the second.
Just giving you general advice how to post in a forum man, might be hard for people who just entered the thread to follow. Chill...
Also IMDB is not as inflated as you say, just look at the top 100 and say one movie that shouldn't be there, they're all gold!
It takes 1 second to look at the list and know it's not a serious resource. Shawshank Redemption as the #1 movie ever? Seriously?
I mean it's a good movie, but...
According to most people, apparently yes.
Uhm, no. Since you can give how many movies you like 10's if you like, IMDB's list if more a list of the "least hated movies" than anything. Also personally I rank movies by genre. I can give a action movie a 9 and a drama movie a 9, but that doesn't mean I think they are equally good in general.

I don't care, I've looked through the list and it fits me and my opinions pretty good so I'll go with that
