Looking back, this film opened on only 5 screens. What a shame, its a true classic.
Have to give this movie a big +1
Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It also has a really good soundtrack.
Will definitely watch it again.
Roger Deakins delivers yet another breathtaking cinematography, and Casey Affleck is downright amazing too. I feel the directing brought this movie down a little, and cursed it to mediocrity.
This thread is great btw, I'll definitely check out a few titles!
I was actually surprised I liked Kick-Ass. I saw the trailers for it and thought "This is one of those movies I will never see". Another movie making fun of the super-hero genre I thought.
I was on justin.tv and it just happened to be playing. I missed the beginning but the rest was fucking awesome. It's not high art cinema but it was definitely one of the most entertaining movies I've seen this year so far. And I've become a fan of Hit-Girl <3. I'll definitely be picking this one up for blu-ray.
Shame though it didn't do so well at the box-office. I think a lot of people were turned off by the trailers like I was. It means we won't be seeing any sequels unless this becomes an underground cult hit.
how Erik turned from the bully who smashes peoples' faces in at the beginning to the perfect example of a self-controlled "soon-to-be-studying-law" saint - just like that. There was no explanation given really. At first I thought it was because of the violence from his step father that he had to pass on. But he was still beaten up by him later in the movie. And there was no deep cutting experience that changed him. Arrived at the boardiang school and suddenly another person. Strange.
Here's your answer (I think I should give it since I was the one to recommend the movie in the first place):
It was because of his mother. He loved her, despite her being totally passive about her boyfriend beating him. Somehow, he understood that this school was his last chance to not fall down even further, to get back on the track and make his mother happy and proud of him for once.
Edit:
And to whomever posted Paycheck: Are you freaking kidding me? This is yet another example in the long line of movies (vide Next, Solaris, I, Robot, I Am Legend) showing that Hollywood is incapable of understanding the nuances of great science-fiction books. They put focus on something that is completely irrelevant in the book, completely missing what's really important there.
Personally, I wish some director finally stepped up and said "screw the special effects, let's make a movie that doesn't rely on them" and then proceeded to make a movie based on some great s-f work and do it properly for once.
Unthinkable with Samuel L Jackson. It was released in late 2009 in the US, but apparently won't be in theaters anywhere else in the world until this summer, maybe that's why. It's about a military interrogator trying to get the locations of three hidden nuclear bombs from a terrorist.
I dont think this movie is really a hidden gem (maybe in Poland I dont know what your movie scene is like) but I did thoroughly enjoy it. IIRC this movie came out between Hero (an exceptionally good film) and Fearless (less so, but still pretty good).
On that subject, if you like Kung Fu but dont really know what to watch beyond Bruce Lee films Executioners from Shaolin and Fist of the White Lotus are a good place to start.

Your argument is that if you take average people and put them in a forest with a camera they're likely to start raping, murdering, and pillaging just because they can, and your justification for this argument is that some soldiers involved in war, an activity in which you are generally immersed in daily violence and death, adopted sadistic traits.

Sorry but if you thought that argument made any sense at all, continuing the discussion is pointless.
Maybe you should quote who you're talking to
OMG. I'm obviously talking to the same person I've been talking to for the last like 5 posts in a row??? Sorry but you people are really stupid, I can't stand talking to you anymore, it's just painful. I feel like I'm getting dumber by the second.
Just giving you general advice how to post in a forum man, might be hard for people who just entered the thread to follow. Chill...
Also IMDB is not as inflated as you say, just look at the top 100 and say one movie that shouldn't be there, they're all gold!
It takes 1 second to look at the list and know it's not a serious resource. Shawshank Redemption as the #1 movie ever? Seriously?
I mean it's a good movie, but...
According to most people, apparently yes.
Uhm, no. Since you can give how many movies you like 10's if you like, IMDB's list if more a list of the "least hated movies" than anything. Also personally I rank movies by genre. I can give a action movie a 9 and a drama movie a 9, but that doesn't mean I think they are equally good in general.
I don't care, I've looked through the list and it fits me and my opinions pretty good so I'll go with that
Hey I didn't say imdb is a bad list, just that it shouldn't be looked at as "The best movies ever made" list as much as "Movies that most people like" or something like that. Maybe a bit too much caring about semantics on my part. It doesn't really matter though. Find a list you like and stick to it, nothing wrong with that.
