LGD are my favorites, but OG just keep surpassing my expectations, and EG have overwhelming talent... this is legitimately the first TI where any of the top 3 could win and I wouldn't be surprised.

As a real EG hater, I hope they don't win. All I want to have EG vs OG finals and OG to win it all. For the sake of n0tail.

I don't think I have ever been so emotionally invested in a sporting tournament as this. OG's run has been like a fairytale. All these heavily maligned and criticized blokes shutting up the haters. The good guys win in movies but rarely in real life, it would be incredible if they got up.
I'd be completely fine with LGD taking the aegis. They are a fantastic team and would deserve it.
However, if EG win I'm going to be devastated, they are utterly undeserving and unquestionably the villains. Arteezy has destroyed more teams and caused more players to be kicked, when really he was the problem, than Dendi and Loda combined. The last minute manner in which Fly and s4 fucked over their former teammates, denying them an opportunity to compete at the supermajor, was unacceptable. Notail and Ceb don't deserve to have to watch the traitors win glory.

This is some reddit level posting tbh I come here to avoid this garbage
I’ll elaborate. You compare this to traditional sports, where players change teams to win championships all the time. When your whole life is about playing this game at the highest level, you go where you think you will win.
And that’s not even focusing on the economics behind it. A TI win for these players provides for them for a huge chunk of their life. You can’t afford to stick around on a middling team when you are in your prime. It’s just stupidity.
When there are no sanctions in place preventing this, and there is 2-3 million at stake per player, they are going to do anything in their power to win. If not they don’t belong in professional sports.
I’m a big fan of OG and their run, topsons been a lot of fun to watch. I’m a fan of EG. But we don’t know anything about how these teams operate and this artificial drama is stupid when we are talking about their careers and livelihood.

If LGD wins, nothing changes. But if EG or OG win, we are entering a new chapter in TI history. Maybe its time for a change.
|
Hoping for OG/EG finals. Then OG winning it. I like the drama

So hyped for today's matches :D

Yeah whilst there is clear that might be tension between people because the lack of maturity from programers in the "Big boy" situations about kicking members is very high. EG do it very brutally it seems. But Moonmeander said that OG did it extremely brutally to him as well, so its just an industry thing. To "hate" people because of it is very niaive.
Supporting players is fine, wanting Notail to win TI because you think he deserves it is fine attitude but like you say it very reddit circle jerk to "hate" people for doing something that you know happens everywhere and even in the same team you support.
I hope EG win because i am a huge EG fan, however if you honestly look at the 3 teams left and think which of these teams "deserves" to win, it is clearly PSG LGD for being the most conistant during the whole 12 months. I hope EG can hurt them early game and take them out so they can get to OG but it going to be very hard.

Remember, it was literally they day there were leaving for China. OG had to surrender their spot at the Supermajor, a $1.5 million tournament, as a result, while EG still went. That's some economics for you.
Your analogy is irrelevant because players switching teams in traditional sports doesn't cause their team to literally cease to be able to compete

I want LGD to win so the TI propecy still lives on.

They leave whenever they want and join a team whenever they want. Kick people whenever they want. It is literally same as playing a game of dota yourself with 4 friends for them to say we playing battle cup with these 2 people this week and you and your friend aren't involved lol.

im saying players in pro sports have to be selfish because their careers are on timers. and tons of times stars switching teams in the nfl, nba, mlb, nhl, do, in fact, put their teams in the trash teir. sometimes for years or decades.
supermajor, 550K 1st place finish, divided by 5 (or 6 with coach cut), divided by their org's take. so maybe 50K-75k per player? one year salary money.
the international, 11 million first place, divided the same way, 1.5ish million per player. life changing money.
idk i know what id focus on

The ONLY relevant comparison with traditional sports is that fans and players sure as hell still get pissed off when players ditch their team.
Again, your analogy is utterly irrelevant. All of your examples are competitions with a salary cap with a floor, of which a minimum must be paid to the players whether they win or lose. They also get paid if they don't play! The bonuses they get for winning are insignificant compared to their base wage.
That is completely the opposite to how it works in Dota. As you said, that could be one whole year worth of salary. You win that tourney and you double up your pay for the year. OG were completely denied that opportunity by Fly and s4 moving at the time they did, organising it under the table as they did. This is a dick move, not taking into account any friendship situations.
If you do take those into account, Fly in particular threw his best mate and his long time coach into the fire for potential winnings, when he already has about $1.5 million in prize money. Literally all of which was earned with their help.
You feel that their potential financial gain is 100% justification for this. I disagree. That makes my posting garbage apparently.

I really want the EG OG Finals to happen but LGD will be a tough opponent for EG. LGDs and EGs tournament has actually been almost identical so far, both 2-0'd VP and Liquid and both lost 2-1 to OG with Game 3 being incredible close, only difference is that EG also won against Secret.

Ditto but man I'm scared EG can beat OG so I rather have them just lose to LGD.

Stylistically, EG should match up extremely well vs LGD. LGD's biggest weakness (apart from gifting other teams their spot in the grand finals -_-) is getting crushed in lanes (maybe's really been underperforming during the laning stage) and playing from behind vs heroes that can easily pick off their cores. They rely heavily on giving Ame or Maybe a lot of alone time when they're behind while fy and co. conjure up chaos to create that space. EG's lane domination, their constant lane pressure and a lot of their favourite heroes (ursa, tiny, willow, clinkz, etc.) should work extremely well vs that.
Coupled with the fact that LGD's probably tilted and has definitely been getting flamed for 24 hours straight by the Chinese scene, I expect a fairly comfortable 2-0 for EG. Really hope I'm wrong though.

you dont have to look far back in pro sports for capless era movement. salary cap and floors are relatively new and a product of a developed product. esports isn't developed, its the wild west.
my argument is that players are commodities with expiration dates, and moreso in esports than anywhere else. there arent long term sponsorships or retirement options for these guys like other athletes have. Nobody looks out for these guys but themselves. They dont have any benefits on mainstream sports -- real agents, retirement plans, education support, injury support, etc. They have to earn what they earn as fast as possible, and they can't give 2 shits about anyone else, or they won't survive.
players gotta focus on themselves or the sport won't work.
