He's also heavily farm (he needs too many items to actually carry) & placement dependant. He's been used now & then as a carry, but he's more often used as a secondary support. An example would be: you pop God's strength & BKB - yet you die - you buyback & no longer have God's strength... you're not dealing a large amount of damage. Tiny on the other hand deals constant damage. So does AM/Morphling/PA/Void/etc. It's more about consistency than anything else. If they buyback & come back to a fight, they can actually bring something to the table.

Syllabear's Bear/Dragon Knight's Ulti remain on CD when they die.

To me, I feel like there are simply too many possibilities in picks/bans. I mean, it would make sense that there should always be a "correct" pick/ban or at least a "not-bad/horrendous/safe" pick/ban but as LGD vs iG's game (don't remember which), all the info LGD had gotten from iG's picked didn't help them when iG 5th picked lich and completely screwed LGD's game plan over. I don't know if linking to other forums is against TL rules but.. drafting really is a pain in the butt. http://www.playdota.com/guides/drafting-in-cm-for-intermediate That is a pretty good place to start. Some "basics" the writer goes over are "rock-paper-scissors" of push/gank/farm orientated teams. (although in the current meta farm doesn't really exist without the others). But on top of preventing certain heroes that will complete game-orientated comps, it's hard to ignore things like Ferrari's Invoker. But then again, anything below the professional level might not have to worry about spot banning. On September 08 2012 05:55 Shikyo wrote: By which logic Tiny can, then? I mean if we compare them, Sven attacks faster and has higher damage, right? My 2 cents. "By definition" a carry NEEDS $$$, be it farm, or killing people (probably farm). Like CK, Sven has some ability to kill (with assistance), but really has no reliable farming ability. Tiny, like Morphline can flash farm "easily" and can pick up kills just as easily as Sven can with support, if not more easily. But imho, Tiny can't REALLY carry without Invoker without getting ridiculously getting outcarried by almost anything else.

...Because of his ability to constantly and limitlessly replenish his mana, he is arguably the only hero in the game who directly counters Anti-Mage. Then i looked at AM and noticed that he has a passive called Spell Shield which increases Anti-Mage's resistance to magic damage by 50% on lvl 4. So, is OD truly a direct counter to AM and if so why he isn't picked more often vs AM?

OD has full mana all the time, so what? a built am will still wreck his face.

So, is OD truly a direct counter to AM and if so why he isn't picked more often vs AM? OD doesn't exactly counter AM, he's just very good at fighting him, but for other reasons than the ones stated. AM is depending on his Spell Shield to survive against nukers, but OD's damage coming from his orb is pure and he can easily hit for 200+ damage with that. As an added side effect, the orb tears through illusions, making Manta Style, an item AM always gets only half as good. The always-have-max-mana only helps against AM's ultimate, which while strong is not the reason he's picked. OD is not picked because he's a carry without any survivability. He doesn't have any escape, low HP and is countered by BKB. And since AM fell out of favor (behind e.g. Morphling) it's not necessary to use him as a counterpick.
