Silver Edge is pretty overrated against PA. You depend on killing her in a 5sec window, which more often than not wont happen. Almost no right clicker will skip MKB against PA, and if you're building MKB anyway, why bother with SEdge too? You cant really go the route of "i'll skip MKB and get SEdge instead" because theres a million things which could stop you from getting those 5secs of free damage whcih your whole itemization banked on getting. Natural SEdge buyers (Slark, etc) can obviously use it as a semi counter until MKB arrives, but thats about it.
As for whats good, I dont think theres any specific hero, but generally the less right click dependant your hero is the better. But the list of heroes fitting into that description is probably 30 or 50 or something, so no point starting to list them. And if you really want a right clicker, get one that naturally can build MKB early.

Hey folks, this game I was last picking carry (I am on Dire as Ursa).
I expected to be in lane against Axe, so was thinking either Ursa or Lifestealer would be good.
I immediately regretted Ursa, because our team has so many attack speed buff heroes and Ursa's W duplicates/wastes this. Am I thinking along the right lines for how to choose carry? How would you decide which carry to pick?
|
First up, your lane support is melee, your roaming support is melee, and you are thinking you will be against an axe. I'd never pick a melee carry in that situation unless I really had to. I understand that there are only so many ranged carries and that you don't necessarily want to be super squishy against their lineup but with so many melee heroes on both sides, being ranged should be a significant advantage. Something like Clinkz (high range, very strong in lane, unfortunately the enemy team lacks squishies to pick off) or maybe medusa (very hard to burst, EXCELLENT vs many melee heroes, very good here imo) would have been good if you felt comfortable with them. Viper also features great laning, a very solid matchup vs Sven lategame and ticks most of the boxes that you need. Depends if you felt like he wouldn't scale enough though.
Don't worry about any "anti-synergies" between attack speed buffs and your W. Considering you bought a mask of madness (which is the current most popular build) its safe to say that ursa still uses attackspeed quite well.
Realistically though, playing is far more important than drafting. It's not like "i couldn't have any impact because ursa is anti-synergetic" or anything like that.

They had 5 melee line up and u already had melee support (ogre) with you so ranged carry would have made lane much easier for u, Viper Gyro Clinkz maybe? Gyro is kinda weak vs Ember Sven tbh but laning stage wouldve been easier for sure. Viper rocks vs sven and wk but doesnt really deal with ember. Clinkz with orchid can be really hard for ember to deal with but is weak vs all the stuns they got when they get their blinks (ES WK Sven Axe).
Actually when u think about it, isnt this perfect timber game, radiant has 5 melees and 4 str heroes, and apart from ES their line up relies on physical damage 100%? Its kinda hard to convince your team to have pos1 timber. Also Timber Invoker pos1 pos2 is weak when they get their BKBs so theres that too.
Medusa seems pretty strong too but there is this timing where u are relatively useless and they have axe wk sven blink timing and u have medusa+bounty in team.
Hard choice tbh, not a single hero has only upsides in this situation.
Ursa isnt really that bad here apart from the bad laning stage, with even farm u should be able to stand by with ur ult vs all of them alone.

do you go bots first on mid ember or no
if not, what should you get first after roa/bottle and the like
|
You definitely can go BoTs first. You also most definitely dont have to.
Im a personal BoT-hater when it comes to being behind games. I dont know how many embers I've seen in hard games where you're about to start losing T2s and my ember spends his first hard fought 2k gold on BoTs. "Great choice mate, those BoTs will surely help defending what little map control we have left, and BoTs are a well known strong high ground defense item!!"
Then sometimes you see an ember going like drums->BF or something (brown boots) so the have something ready for high ground defense, that warms my heart.
That said, BoTs are obviously good with embers toolkit and are great for farming. Feel free to get them if you can get away with it.
|
I really prefer BoTs over any other boots on ember if you are playing by yourself in solo q. It will allow you to go from lane to lane farming up your battle fury. You will be weaker in the early portion of the game, but your split push and farm potential is a lot greater. If the game drags on you will be happy that you went BoTs first.
If you choose not to go BoTs, then its phase -> drums -> bf and try to fight a lot more since you wont be able to farm as fast.
|
Pretty sure u dont want to commit to Drums anymore as Ember, rather pick up Aquila and move straight BF/Travels especially if u are mid Ember with Bottle already.
So mid ember: Bottle -> Boots -> RoA -> Travels -> BF ->>
or lane ember: Boots -> RoA -> Travels -> BF ->>
U can throw in casual bracer/wand or buy Bottle as safelaner if u feel like u need it. Also PMS is pretty good for ember to deal with right clicks, u are six slotted very fast if u go for the drums too.
Brown Boots PMS Wand/Bracer RoA TP Bottle is already 6 slots, replace TP with BF after Travels.

All items have 0 cast time right for their actives? So the only thing preventing you from casting asap is the direction that you are facing?

Technically correct but slightly misleading; Refresher takes 1 second to use but has 0 animation.

Don't know where to ask this but, got back home after a month and my internet provider has changed. In terms of pure speed, it's supposed to be faster than the previous but DotA is unplayable now.
before, Japan and SEA servers showed as lowest pings of 80~90ish now Japan has gone up to 130+ and SEA to 75. It says I have 75~80 ms ingame and no packet loss but unless I'm crazy I feel like I'm playing on 300+ ping. I tried pinging the valve servers manually from cmd and it shows the same as in-game.

Have you tried any other games such as counterstrike or something similarly ping-sensitive?
If your ping isn't really up much and it says no loss then it might be other settings such as vsync or bad framerate that makes the game feel like really high ping. That's my best guess.
I always thought Korea had great internet oh well (I understand that you guys don't have your own server). Thanks for all the work you've done with TL at manila and frankfurt and good luck going forward!.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had everything 'showing' as normal in terms of ping/packet loss but when you play, you feel for sure that something is terribly wrong.

I always thought Korea had great internet oh well (I understand that you guys don't have your own server). Thanks for all the work you've done with TL at manila and frankfurt and good luck going forward!. With my previous ISP I had a problem where it would constantly disconnect me every 1 hour exactly. It turned out it was resetting my IP or something so I would always get disconnected from whatever game I was playing every 60 minutes. I had to google for 4 hours to find solutions/matching symptoms. I remember following some instructions on how to stop that in registries etc. 100% sure there is something that is ruining my connection to SEA server in some way. I downloaded 10GB worth of GoT episodes in a few minutes yesterday so... it's not like my internet has gotten slower all of the sudden.
I'm going to try playing a few more games just to be sure!
Thanks though!
