Also I think more people would play Bane if it was a Succubus in leather with a whip like in HoN.

I would just like to state again that I have no experience in either Dota or HoN, but I have experience in that kind of game genre. Should I play HoN to learn the basics of it since it is very similar to Dota then play Dota 2.. I thought doing this would make me not as bad as I will be when I start playing Dota 2, is this a good idea, give me your suggestions please!! Thanks

However, HoN is still missing a lot of Dota heroes and has many of it's own that aren't in Dota. Also, all the items are named differently which will be a bit annoying. Personally I'd go HoN but it's not clear cut.

Thanks HoN is a fine choice but you need to know what 'not' to learn. A lots of heroes and items in HoN are different or modified from DotA which make the meta game a lot different. Also there are some mechanic that you can only find in DotA and some of those are game changer. Just play what ever you like and keep in mind that they are 2 different games.

You can either buy it, or.... you know.... what 90% of people who play dota did who don't really want to pay for the game they don't play anyway. Then you need to download the map from getdota.com Last thing you need is a client where to play it. Some of the most popular are: Garena, Ranked Gaming Client, Dotalicious. Just google it. I can recommend Darer. I used to play on Garena but switched to Darer when it was launched since It has a ladder (pro/fun) and saves stas. Also, I think the mym and navi guys play there.

Thanks WC3 is cheap as chips, I'd be surprised if you couldn't pick up a second hand copy for a few quid. And hate to break it to you, LoL and DotA have about as much in common as goldeneye and counterstrike do. Playing HoN will help a bit, but quite a lot of people really dislike the way it looks. If you want to play dota2 well - get dota, if you just want to have fun with your mates - there'll be a matchmaking system anyway. You could play HoN if you want, but if you're going to the extent of starting to play a new game, to learn to play a different game, why not just do it right?

Recently I've gotten into playing creep controlling heroes (Ophelia, Tundra, Warbeast, etc.) and the hotkeys I bind to my creeps and hero 'stick' even after death. For example, I bind Tundra+puzzlebox minions+Coeurl to 1 and even after those minions die, next time I summon they're still bound to 1 without me having to do anything. So, do hotkeys 'stick' like this in DotA? It would be a real bitch if they didn't.

It's hardly surprising WC3 doesn't do this considering how old it is. >_> Ofc, can't say anything about dota2.

I disagree, I'd think they'd keep it as a range like it's always been and simple have an average so it looks cleaner. My assumption is different, but yes, nothing is confirmed. And to the other guy asking, HoN will prepare you far more for DotA2 than LoL will, to find out what's similar and what's changed see the thread in the OP.

There's a range, it just shows the average, which is for the most part just fine.

They banned axe/pudge. I feel like they threw away their bans since they had a strat they wanted to do that involved some heroes that risked being banned. Not sure that is what they ended up playing though.

They banned axe & pudge first and second, then took storm spirit, lina and sven... Yeah we can safely assume they were just dicking around.
