I don't think they lost matches because of AA or DK/Viper more because they had idea that Troll was good and Sumail need to preform better on Enigma. I think they work best with Fear playing tanky heroes, they don't have fixed lanes so let Fear play Tide and Underlord, especially Underlord would is strong in Meta right now, but also suit there style, with them farming away and then using Dark Rift to turn up in numbers for fights. Maybe he is also the one that should play Enigma as he has show good skill on macro heroes like Visage and Lycan. Could also use a Brood player, and feel that its a shame they didn't try that instead of troll here as other teams would properly ban it sometimes then in fear of getting Brood last pick. On support side they need to go back to heroes that does the same in IO and KOTL. Sumail should play the mobil heroes or other heavier carry if they need that strategy. Then more or less forget about calling it mid or offlane. I would love that Sumails start learning Pango is i could see him go crazy on that kind of hero. Also a hero like Venom seem very strong in hands of TL and should be one that they look into.

I dunno, I think you're looking at it the wrong way, Viper is not a tanky hero. He got that label because back when Viper and Razor were popular they built Vanguard first item. Plus, I think Troll is fine and I think Arteezy plays it well.
But with AA and DK/Viper I was getting at how team fights evolve with these heroes. AA/Viper is almost like single target AA/Veno and AA allows EG to play more slightly more spread. DK gives a benefit against physical heavy cores can initiate and counter initiate, and again, lets EG play slightly more spread early game.
I kind of wish EG would've went more greedy with Fear against VP, like a last pick PL. Yeah they have a gyro, but that is really it. PL is also a natural diffusal carrier against Omni.
Last thoughts from me for EG from the last few qualifiers and tournaments is no TB/OD for Arteezy or Timbersaw pick for Sumail; I think EG would especially play well around a timber on Sumail, maybe even making it ban worthy. Also Sniper for a Fear hero. With mid wards, Sniper can play conservatively, and I think opposing teams would have to rotate too much for kills on him.

PL AND Troll in a game? That is extremely greedy tbh. I feel like the strat here is good enough, give RTZ and Sumail that 1/2 farm priority, but they also need a hero for Fear which scales well in the Mid/Late game, Gyro/DK should've been picked for Fear.
I was expecting in the VP game a last pick Void tbh and going from that. I also think that hero for Rtc should be used more and yes a troll/void/pony is also very greedy but still looks good to me.
Not playing competitive games for me is a disaster as it takes you out of the meta from playing the games, of course they will be watching these tournaments to see what is going on, but they won't get first hand experience playing them. Right now somehow Mineski is the best team at DAC it seems which is just unfathomable to my brain as they don't look like they do things very well or exceptionally better than anyone else.
I am sure EG will bring something different to the next even they play (May 25th in ESL!) but they will need to be on point pretty quickly. I guess we can look forward to some rtc streams over the next weeks or so though The season is always about just getting to TI but i always find that for EG shouldn't be the goal, they should always be looking to win several tournaments on there way to TI. Last year they racked up 2/3 final apperances and won a couple of tournaments. This season just the one tournament win and one runner up placement with 2 tournaments to play, i think that is a bit bad so far.
First off, EG did not drop a single game in DAC to a team outside the top 3. It's not like they did "bad". But man are they in somewhat trouble on DPC points now. lol
Although if they can't make it out of a two spot NA TI qual they deserve to not be at TI however the very notion of them not making TI is insane to me, even though I do not think they will be serious contenders it would ruin the tournament for my viewing interest if they weren't there at all. lol.
If it comes to qualifiers Optic and EG would be favored, because we don't know how good VGJ.Storm is, yet.
@Pande: Look at Mineski, they have played less tournaments than EG, and secured their invite with a DAC win. I think at times, a break from competitive play allows you to get your creative spirit back with your play and drafts. They are still miniscule moments away from breaking through the barrier into consistent top 3 finishes.
Yeah but they are still playing qualifiers whilst they are having this break from LAN events and 71 the coach turned them around when he joined. Not saying EG can't do it no but they just suck online it seems and only turn up at LAN events. Need top 3 in last two majors or at least winning one of them. Going to be a tough ask.
I feel like in the end, it doesn't matter if EG got into top 8 of the DPC if eventually they placed below expectations in TI. If the boys must go through quals, and ends up placing well enough in TI, I'm still gonna be happy anyways.
Teams always look bad until they don't. It's the nature of dota; because of the snowballing element of the game, losing often looks ugly. You couldn't have told anyone that Mineski would win DAC just like you can't tell anyone EG will win ESL Birmingham. Hell, Mineski was in danger of disbanding shortly before DAC.
I agree that EG seems to be on the cusp. Their ideas about current dota clearly have potential, shown by winning very dominant series against very good teams. Just hope the boys see it that way too and haven't devolved into infighting
Oh we got invited to GESC Thailand after all, makes sense we go into that with the "champions invite" for winning the first tournament....Hype more points potential :3
Tournaments Left; EPICENTER Major - 27th Apri to 6th May GESC Thailand Minor - 9th May to 12th May MDL Changsha Major - 14th May to 20th May ESL One Birmingham Major - 23rd May to 27th May China Super Major Major - 3rd June to 10th June
So are are in the bolded Tournaments, 3/5! but the China Super Major invites/qualifiers have not been announced yet, hopefully we can sneak an invite if not we will need to qualify. See Mazes post below!
Oh sweet! Also lol PPD so salty as usual. He needs to realise the invites aren't based on qualifier results nor are they based on ranking points it seems. They are based on how they have done in specific lans. OG won MDL minor (the only reason why they have some points) and EG have done well in their last few LAN tournaments, but yes not qualifiers i agree.
Optic also won one tournament 1 day ago after these invites were clearly done.
Forgetting salty PPD for a moment, that is alot of LANs / travel in May isn't it! 3 Majors and 1 minor in space of 5 weeks. On 3 different continents (4 if you count Russia as one in which probs should be really :3 ) as well. Nuts
I just hope they invited OG before Resolution left. It's really the worst rule that you can't get DPC points if a player leaves. . . yes promote roster stability but top teams have shown they don't care and are willing to go through the open qualifiers. I still think teams (and the player leaving) should lose 50% DPC on roster switch outside of lock, but are still able to gain more points.
Arteezy spamming TB and Luna, Fear spamming Kunkka, Lina, and Tiny, Crit spamming Dark Willow, Io, and Pango.
Hope we do some more Lina spam and i think Kunka is a "niche" pick that its good to have for sure. 4 Pango i think is good, but then i think of how much fun sumail could have on that hero hmmm

Things to come?
Crit is spamming potent 4s, Rtz is spamming the better 1s and Fear is playing with the switchable semi-carries/mids that are getting popular. Kunkka is in a weird space right now, but works as a solid flex pick as you can run it as a 4 or a Core. Lina is back in the Meta if you have a Razor or Tiny in the lineup, and everyone is banning Tiny because you can play it in all 3 core roles.
In other words, prepping for the current meta, though do they have any official matches before GESC in May?

With those patches every two weeks, i don't think that prepping for themeta works. You never know what is coming.
Its been a week since the last patch, there wer just a couple of changes, but they are all gamebreaking. Have you realised, for example how much has Tiny's winrate dropped? Just because str heroes are stunned for the same time as others...
Next patch will probably be just before, or even DURING epicenter. So the way to go is just get a guy with a big understanding of the game and listen to him. Good EG have Fear and Bulba as a coach.
Rtc also supposed to be one of the best at learning the new meta fast and understand the patch as soon as possible, was mentioned during the Life of a Genius stuff they do on YouTube. But yeah, the next patch is due Epicenter week around 26th, then another on the 10th May. Should mean that Epicenter has a patch before it starts and GESC Thailand has one day 2 of the event lol. Maybe Valve need change the days of patches to a Monday or a Tuesday which normally no tournaments are on those days xD
Saw Crit playing Riki a couple of games the other day too. Watched 2 games of Sumail when he was streaming, he played mid both games, got dumpstered and lost horribly both times lol
