I'm genuinely unsure whether I'd love Baba if I played it on my own. I think Obra Dinn is probably sufficiently easier that it doesn't matter as much, but still better with 2 I think.

So idk, you're probably busy saving lives, maybe HZD is better. I couldn't get into RDR2 on my first try a few years ago, and only got into it by forcing myself to play the first chapter and a half, which was easy because nyc was totally locked down at the time lol. I find HZD's combat to be much better (RDR isn't bad it's fine, HZD's is super fun) and RDR's story / world to be better and more engaging (HZD's story is pretty good! but RDR feels like I'm living out an full western tv series). Regardless - they're two of my favorite games ever. I did not feel particularly drawn to Outer Worlds and played it for a few hours, put it down for a weekend, and never came back to it. Honestly - once you get used to 0-load-screen open-world games it's hard to go back to regular loading screens lol. But also I think I just wasn't particularly invested in the story, and it's much more of a traditional RPG than the other games and I've been losing patience for caring about min-maxing gear and such over the years. Other people love the game tho, so idk. Maybe I'll retry it. edit - oh also I think that at least on release HZD on PC was pretty buggy, maybe check on that before buying (videogame sidenote - I started Return of the Obra Dinn this weekend and played it for like 9 hours straight, it rules) Thanks for the reviews. I'm leaning towards HZD for now and maybe eventually RDR2.

It's a great narrative but without that time, it felt very fragmented for me and incredibly slow to develop - just like old movies, I like that comparison of eieieoe. Horizon is a fun and easy going game with varied gameplay, if you want it to be. I found a specific approach to be more successful than others for me. But I didn't play it for the challenge so that was fine by me. I don't think I encountered any bugs playing through both main game as well as expansion. Just a few crashes. Right now it should be good to play. Although truth be told I do play with a controller. Mouse and keyboard reduce the challenge quite a bit, making the weak point hits so much easier. Haven't played outer wilds.

RDR2 is fantastic, extremely immersive and maybe the only RPG where I actually didn't mind slow walking in towns. The story comes apart a bit at the end and the epilogue is pointless. Outer worlds looked generic as all fuck to me.

The story's well above a typical open-world RPG imo, although that's a low bar. Although honestly I'd prefer that HZD wasn't an open-world game. All my favorite parts of it were set pieces, I think I'd like the game even more if they just embraced the set pieces and didn't give me silly sidequests that I ignored. I also kinda liked RDR2's epilogue but that's just because I was so hooked that I wanted more game. I enjoyed the literal ending, but found that the final chapters dragged a little.

HZD did nothing for me but I'm glad so many people enjoyed it. I was ready to sink more time into fun open worldy gameplay after finishing RDR2 but it was such a drag I pulled the plug and moved on. I found the combat supremely unenjoyable, the dialogue to be delivered in a repulsive manner and the setting to be nothing to write home about. I later played Disco Elysium and now that is a game. Finally an RPG without the pointless combat sequences where you basically fight wildlife, like you do in every other allegedly story driven game. However, upon applying my monomolecularly sharp literary criticism to it, I started to wonder if the average nerd is capable of telling masterful writing from early stages of overwriting, as in my opinion Disco Elysium's style lodges itself perfectly into the ridge joining the two together, effectively being neither. Luckily, this only applies to some parts of the narration, as most of the game's writing is delivered in a way where I am happy to forgive the willful application of over the top stylisation. It's odd that in a game so well put together they managed to make the ending so thoroughly unsatisfying, when it literally took like 2 scenes to fix it.

You could maybe download disco elysium on your laptop and hook it up to the TV? I know ps4 controllers work on pc and I'd imagine there's some drivers out there to connect other gamepads?

Alright I'm already sufficiently impressed by the beginning of HZD. The only thing that's hilariously poor quality so far is the facial animations and lip syncing.

Kinda get the same vibe in RDR2 for the faces of most people outside of the main characters, lol.
