IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/dota2/Patches Depending on how many b/c/d/e versions there are, the average seems to be around 4 months. 6.81 had just one adjustment patch in 6.81b and it's already over 4 months. It's one of the longer ones. Unless you go all the way back to like 5 years ago, but I don't see how that's relevant at all.

e: 6.79 took a little under 6 months, but it had 2 adjustment patches and there were new heroes being ported like every 2 weeks, that's a very different situation.

The average being 4 months means that 3 months, like the patches you mentioned before, is fast, and 5 months or even more is fairly common.

Sure, but new heroes were being ported to dota 2 and to dota 2 captains mode at a pretty steady pace, so the pub and pro meta stayed fresh. We didn't get a single one during 6.81, that makes the patch seem much longer.

edit: well, we got Techies like just now, I guess.

After Elder Titan, it took around 5 months and they only added like Abaddon.

6.78 was also released after those heroes. They were released during .77, which lasted like 6 months.

This patch lasted 4 months so far. By your own reserch it is average.

at the start they ported 3-4 heros at once with like 1 month between patches. Now it takes 9 months to port 1 hero?
Also why does every hero need a small change, why not fix the ones that are op / broken or usless first.

Because Day 2 is the most recent?

Because all their vods from Day 1 are up, but their vods from Day 2 aren't. So if someone wanted to watch something from day 2, they'd tune in to the rebroadcast; if they wanted to watch something from the first day they'd go to youtube.

Also why does every hero need a small change, why not fix the ones that are op / broken or usless first.

That's the standard/blizzard approach. The problem with it is that it's boring as shit and that the patch gets figured out super quickly so you might as well patch again 2 weeks. The genius of IceFrog's patches is that he can get away with so much so insane stuff in his patches because he does a lot of these changes at the same time. The crazy stuff then balances itself out and when the community slowly discovers some stuff that is truly overpowered it just gets banned out every game and it's not a big deal. And by the time you reach a stage where most of the OP stuff is figured out it's almost time for a new patch.

And maybe the patch isn't that long. But it damn well feels long, because of the lack of new heroes and the fact that this patch had a lot of pressure on it. The bigger tournaments in the patch, the sooner it gets figured out. This issue is not getting better looking forward, tho.

Bet on MYM vs Na'Vi.US, Na'Vi.US didn't show up so I moved my rares on Alliance vs NVMI and the match crashes and they can't reconnect. I think the game is trying to tell me something, I probably shouldn't get back into betting.

People complaining about patch lengths would have gone crazy back when we had stable versions, so you only got a balance shift once a year.
