Man, I love these Blizzard hate train threads.
"Despite overwhelming evidence that Diablo 3 was a success and the vast majority of players who bought the game enjoyed it, I am convinced it was a failure. I will redefine the word "majority" to make my argument, because small number of players that played inferno are the real majority. Majority is, in fact, the loudest group on the internet. Then we will travel down memory lane when I recall all the awesome games from my past, which I was younger, had unlimited free time and my standards of quality were really low.'
Remember folks, less than .5% of the people who purchased SC2 beat it on brutal and they are all on the Team Liquid forums.

A lot of it's not Blizzard hate so much as "This is why it's wrong to claim it was a big success", and I say it is related to time played. The people complaining the most come from the group that play it the most (don't you think?), or else wanted to play it the most but were too disappointed.
When people talk about "most people still playing this game than any other", you have to consider how much time it was out for and how many are doing it to try to make money, rather than just for enjoyment. I don't think the term "hate train" is appropriate for the conversations going on in here. :p
EDIT: Oh, that said, I didn't go back a bunch of pages to see if sheer hatred was being spewed previously.

And yet the Diablo 3 forums on TL are generally dead. Sorry but even if a minority screams loudest, it is still a minority and Diablo 3 was a disappointment for the majority of players. It did not have the rich content that was promoted in its advertisement, nor did it feature pvp or other stuff that was shown. I realize that there are a few hardcore fans that defend their favourite game of choice with a passion but for the large bulk of players, Diablo 3 was a disappointment that did not stand up to its promises and had no long term entertainment value.
Yes it is true there are hardcore players that play and enjoy the game but that is not the majority. From over about 10 million copies sold in total, the people actually playing this game on a roughly regularly bases is in the few thousands.

Its because the vast majority of the players, including myself, played it, enjoyed it and moved on. I bought Saints Row 3 two years ago and its was great. I am not playing it now. Same goes for Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, X-Com and a ton of other games. That is how single player games work, you play them and then you move on. Unless you are talking about Civ 5, which you can play over and over, but its pretty much the same game each time.
Your expectations might have been slightly unreasonable if you thought you would be able to play it forever.

Of course you can play it with other people. The same with Halo. That doesn't mean its focus isn't on single player. Just because it has multiplier doesn't mean you can play it forever. Saints Row 3 has co-op, but it is a single player game.
And to be clear, the auction house was not great and shouldn't have been in the game. But it did not the make the game horrible.

I played diablo 2 for 5-6 years. Enjoyed it greatly. All my friends played it for many many years aswell. I expected to play diablo 3 for years upon years just like diablo 2. I even played diablo 2 like 6 months just to hype myself up for diablo 3. After 2 weeks i had to quit diablo 3 beacuse its not nearly the game diablo 2 was. Im not saying d2 is perfect beacuse its not. But i expected a new diablo that fixes problems in d2 and makes it even more awesome and a game to last for years. It wasnt even close to that level. Which a lot of people that played diablo 2 wanted it to be. This is what a true blizzard game is. A game you can play for many many years. They have become worse for sure with their new releases.

And for all the people who played it for 6 years, there are just as many, if not more, who dropped the game after a single play through or never finished it.

Don't really care about all these negative shits people like to throw around. If Blizzard manages to make D3 fun again then I will start playing it again. SC2 and MoP are fun for me.

The trademark of blizzard has been to release totally depurated games with a life expentancy of infinite due to its multiplayer features. You start with the singleplayer, end up in something entirely different. I didn't like that much d2, but looking at the differences between both in multiplayer and the reasons why people played, you can guess where the game was braindead for many of them.
D3 was the unreasonable game for blizzard standards, not the expectations of people.
And about singleplayer games... i play XCOM series from time to time, and those games are almost 20 years old (yes, i already played them when i was a kid). But there is nothing in the market that can even shadow their gameplay (to be fair, not even their genre).
Also, about the 1 week worth of gameplay for 60$. That's what you expect from a cod, or another turd release, not from blizzard. You expect blizzard to make games that you would play whenever you feel like it. That's what they had been doing.
|
You do know they released a new Xcom game last year. Played it for 60 hours. And I played diablo 3 for 60 as well, several times with friends who like it.

Of course i know. And i still play it from time to time too, but it's not like the old ones (hoping for modders to improve it!)
Edit - a bit offtopic i know, but if you can try the longwar mod, quite decent.

Did you ask all SC2 players to come up with that number?
And regarding D3, it's probably some new designs for a personal banner and 1 new color. Plus 1 new monster type for act 2!
