Because they still, despite that, make games which are LIGHTYEARS ahead of others studios in terms of replayability and gameplay. Edit: meh quoted the wrong guy, was answering to the guy bashing on people who put their faith in Blizzard.

What a brilliant and creative solution. At that point I think you are supposed to use the mystic (or whatever it was) to reroll the +int to something you can use. ![]() Also, with smart drops you are less likely to get mainstats that do not match the paying char as I understand?

Probably not. At the same time, in D2 trading was there (at least on high level) for more or less coolness factor, rather than something essential like in D3. In D2 you were trading Shako 1xx def or Shako 13x def or Shako 141 def, and while super cool rich chars had 400 more defence compared to mid geared chars, in D3 difference between mid and high geared goes from 50k DPS to 400k++ DPS. In D2 you could strip your lvl 85 char naked and go play through NM, while in D3 naked paragon100 char can not even play act 1 mp0 normal (not kidding, go try). D3 is simply 100 times more gear dependant than D2 was. They changed many things that were good in D2 and now have no idea how to fix all that mess. And instead of going back to something that time has proven to be good they keep trying all those crazy ideas hoping that perhaps one day one of them will prove to be good.

In the past, participants in this particular phase of public testing usually only include friends and relatives of Blizzard employees. With Reaper of Souls, however, we've decided to buck that trend and extend invites to valued media contacts and key members of the Blizzard community. We're also inviting 3,000 of our most active Diablo III players from around the world who've opted in for beta testing—something we've never done for any Friends and Family Beta test before! Damn I should have played D3 more I guess. That's a good way to distribute invotes though, imo. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/11649795

Only let people who already liked the original game play the expansion. Lol.

The people who play it the most will most notice the changes and have generally the best or most insightful input about all of the changes. It's closed beta this has nothing to do with reviews when the game is not even close to being released. If the people who currently play d3 a ton don't like things blizzard changed, then obviously there is a problem that needs to be corrected because if they (the people who really like the game right now) don't like it/can't see themselves playing RoS for another year there is no need to get opinions from others because blizzard would know that if the dedicated players wouldn't play, the casuals wouldn't play any more than they do now either, which is what they want to help with the expansion.

The real key though is that if it wasn't a publicity stunt then they would have an NDA on it.

If they ACTUALLY wanted some quiet feedback from outside people they would do their normal utterly closed friends and family beta with a strict NDA. Thats how you get honest feedback that you can use. Its a little hard to understand how rabid blizzard fans are.

A 'publicity stunt' like you mention implies the sole intention of it is for the publicity it will provide. While yes, that is a factor, the reaction from the community on the changes to the game is most likely a bigger factor in their mind than any positive reviews that come out of it.

Its a little hard to understand how rabid blizzard fans are. whats wrong with publicizing the game? you also seem to be confusing publicity stunts and just general advertising. i dont think anyone is arguing that they are not using the beta for publicity. they have been publicizing RoS for months now (cinematics, answering questions on battle.net, giving interviews, letting people play it at Blizzcon, etc.). your posts just seem really pissed off and angry for no apparent reason.

There isn't anything innately wrong with it, I just think that it's a shame blizzard has to stoop so low to get positive reviews of their games. They used to be bar none the absolute greatest gaming company in my personal opinion. They didn't have to pull shenanigans because the games spoke for themselves. Maybe I'm reading too deep into it, but its not like blizzard are following a standard trend here. Sure, invite community members to closed beta. I get that, it makes sense. That is not what this is though. This is simply a pretty big divergence from what they have done and what other companies do and the only real conclusion as to why blizz would do this is for positive publicity. Which means they feel like they badly need it. I approve of general advertising but thats absolutely not related to this.
