thanks guys, i can see the improvement right after i got the LoH! However i am not sure which mantra should i go for, my base damage is like 13k, the 20k is after the blinding flash and breathe of heaven.
790 all res with Overawe, i feel like my damage is higher but my hp can dropped so fast against some mobs. + Show Spoiler +
950 all res with MoH, i can still tank quite the same as before: + Show Spoiler +
On the other hand, crippling wave+concussion allows me to tank all day but sweeping wind is very nice too (i never try it before lol).

AHHHH. I didn't realize you had the blinding flash + damage rune active. I have 21k damage unbuffed in any way right now. So yes, 13k damage is very, very low. I would probably quit D3 if I had to run through Act 2/3 with 13k dps. Good thing is, damage can be fixed. Swap out those amethysts for emeralds in your armor for one, and make sure your boots and gloves have 150+ dex, as they can be found with those stats quite cheaply. I would aim for a ~900 dps one hand as well. I get my LoH from an amulet, a ring, and an offhand, so my weapon is currently quite cheap, although I'm hunting for a 150+ dex, socketed weapon in the 900 DPS range.

If your shield is bad (judging by the block%, it is), get a cheap, fast offhand with 400-500dps, close to 1k lohit, and maybe some dex. You might want to drop resolve for Guardian Path too. It should greatly increase your survivability, vs these inept mobs.
Btw, MoH is generally bad compared to MoE:Hard Target. You should easily tank everything with MoE. Stay on Thunderclap for added damage, LoHit, and teleport, if you can control it.

Is there any reason to choose a particular elemental resistance over the other ones when stacking for OWE? Or do all the items go for more or less the same price so I should pick one randomly? I'm thinking of picking Physical or Poison, for no particular reason other than the fact that I currently have ~20 more points on these.
(This is for Hardcore btw, but I don't think it makes much difference in this case)

(This is for Hardcore btw, but I don't think it makes much difference in this case) physical and to a lesser degree fire are the most expensive res. any of the others wont make much of a difference, price-wise.

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll go for poison.

for hardcore just pick a resistance based on your existing gear and switch it if you find different gear - as soon as you feel your gear is reaching a point where it will be hard to replace existing pieces with resistances, just stick to your choice and look only for what you picked.
for softcore (or perfectionists in general) you might want to consider chosing a specific resistance because your "perfect gear" includes a legendary item with a base resistance - e.g. arcane on seven sins or poison on andariel's visage.
the last consideration is price - apart from the legendary aspect mentioned above there is no gameplay advantage in prioritizing e.g. physical resistance, so i would try to avoid picking the more expensive resistances if your gear allows it. (in my experience physical>arcane>fire>poison>lightning>cold in gameplay importance and thus price)
personally i picked cold because the first "expensive" item i bought for my monk had coldres on it. if i had no gear and would have to chose now, i would pick arcane because of seven sins (the only shoulders in the game that can have above 200dex).

Hi everyone. I'm currently having trouble in Act 3 and I'm not sure why. If anyone could look at my stuff and tell me what I'm doing wrong that would be nice. Thanks.
|
The first half of Act 3 is relatively easy (only mob types that might give you problems are soul rippers and maybe the giant circular guys that hit for a ton), so I hope you're not having trouble there. The second half can potentially be hard because many mob types (phasebeasts, malachors, occultists, spearthrowers, succubi) are fucking annoying, and with the right affixes extremely hard if not impossible (I've had invulnerable minion phasebeasts, you can imagine how that went).
Your gear looks fine to me. If anything I'd prefer more LoH (via the gems in your weapons). Your dex is a little low for Act 3, but I don't think that's hindering you. If you're really having trouble, go back to MoE/Hard Target, but I think you should be able to clear Act 3 atm, albeit with some difficulties.

U need about 200 more resist and about 500 loh. Also try MoE: Hard target instead of overawe. With that much crit, I'm not even sure 1.5k loh is sufficient against reflect damage mobs. Probably want deadly reach on ur right click for wallers to keep ur loh and sweeping wind up.

Heyo. Looking at all your gear makes me jealous. :x Oh well, I figured I'd throw myself out there and see what y'all think. I've gotten as far as Aranae, whom I killed, but I feel like I'm getting by on the skin of my teeth. I'm using two 1 handers, and I'm not sure if I should switch to a shield. I have one with 1k armor, 2800- 3700 block (13%) and 3% reduced melee damage. Any other comments would be nice, but I suspect I just need to farm Skele king a lot. + Show Spoiler +

I'm only level 40 atm, but are high level monks really DPS starved or do I just happen to see most sub 20k out of coincidence?

Get more of everything (except health, you don't need to worry about that too much).
In general, progressing with a shield is safer and more cost effective than dual wielding. It allows you to control fights better with the negligible side effect of having fights take a little bit longer. Almost all of us progressed with a shield at first, it was practically mandatory before they nerfed Inferno. Past that, there isn't much advice I can give except to just gear up.

Definitely need a shield with that setup, and you need a better weapon really, really bad.
Not sure how much money you have, but I think you could get Act 1 finishing level gear for about 500-700k gold.

I'm giving out some monk gears, mainly for ppl stuck in hell or early inferno a1. Message me LaiShin1641 (insert # in between) and I'll see whether i can get u some upgrades. No guarantees! [lvl 55-60]
*if you're using ah extensively and cruising through, this give away is probably not for u.

most people here ask for advice or want help with their characters, so it is natural not to see the "insane" damage most people dream of having - a monk can easily get 50k damage or more while not being a total glass cannon. monk kill speed is also a lot higher than the damage suggests since cyclones and owerawe just make you tear everything apart in seconds without increasing your screen dps.

I spent <3 mil for all gear needed to solo Inferno Act I-IV pre-1.03, so I'm quite sure you don't need more than like 250k for what you need to clear Act I post-1.03 if you know how to scan the AH.

Interesting stream: http://www.twitch.tv/newtiunplugged He's playing dps/tanky monk with no LoH, around SW with cyclones. Right now he's theorycrafting (might be boring to some hehe)

I can't see how it could be interesting looking at his gear... he basically has the best items in the game for Monk. Of course he'll get away with a pure dps build... what is there to learn? Have a lot of money to buy imba shit. Well, it's impressive either way.
