LoH compensates for not having total immunity to attacks. As monks we try to become invulnerable. Resolve, Sieze the Initiative, OWE, they all try and reduce the damage we take. Therefore as long as your LoH/Life Steal = or is > to the damage you take you win. 940 resist all and 8k armor seem very good for act 3, I can somewhat manage with 700 resist all, 6k armor and 18k HP with 1.2k LoH.
The thing is as long as you can heal for the amount of damage you recieve you are golden. You can heal from LoH/Life steal/Life from Spirit Spent. It does not matter as long as you can heal from the amount of damage you recieve (refered to as sustain here).

The only thing LoH does is let you face tank a group of mobs for like 2 seconds longer than someone without it. If you don't want to gear for LoH, you have to kite a little more often, simple as that.
Or you just want to clear inferno with your current set up, just abuse mystic ally/deadly reach kiting. It might seem boring or tedious, but it gets the job done with minimal gear (~700 resist, 30k hp, 8-9k armor). Mystic ally is a beast and will tank everything + block pathways for you, so you can clear the game with only a 300 LoH gem in your weapon.

What this guy said if you looking to clear inferno. This is what you do.

Here is all my equipment and stats. Currently "facerolling" through Act 2. It's not right click and forget, but I can tank all normal mobs and 90% of elites. I currently have 2.5 million saved up, and need to start upgrading "big items", So my question for all you TL monks who've been to Act 2 and beyond, what item/stats should I look for that would be the wisest investment. What I have now is obviously all bought for less than 1 mil total, with a few items being found, which i think has served me pretty well all things considered. But now that I have a decent bit of money saved up, i need to start prepping for Act 3. So, TL, my next item/items, what should it be, cost/stats? P.S. Don't laugh at my blue ring. :-( 1. Faster weapon(aim for a base speed on the weapon of 1.4+, LoH optional) 2. More resists(aim for 7-800+ with OWE, or ~600+ with resolve) 3. Might need more DPS for Ghom, but shouldn't be too big of a problem. With gear comes DPS. So what you're saying is my next item should be a faster weapon? That would give me my biggest jump in dps/survivability? I have "higher" dps weapons, but I am loathe to give up that 190 dex from my current weapon. Faster weapon gives you more LoH and more spirit, aka more healing. It might not be a dps increase depending on your budget, but it it's probably the single biggest upgrade you could make relative to how much easier content will get.
Ok, last night I found a 705 dps, 1.4 attack per second weapon with 110 dex and 300 LoH. I started dual weilding again, and was very pleased with the new attack speed and additional LoH.
So to edit my original, I now have 17.5k dps, 920 LoH, and 1.45 attack speed.

Is 1k LoH, at the expense of survivability, really going to help? Getting 1k means pretty much maxing it out on every item that can even have LoH. 300 LoH is nothing. And 1k LoH is not unattainable in any way possible. I have a very, very cheap setup with a few decent found items, as I posted last page. I found an additional 700 dps, 300 LoH weapon for preatty cheap on the AH, about 300k, I think. I also have a ring with 90 dex, 145 LoH, and 5% life that I found(don't currently even use it, because my other rings do more damage and give more life). So what I have is an bargain basement monk that I could equip for 1k+ LoH for a 1k dps decrease. 1k LoH is not even close to maxing out every item that can have it. I could even equip another LoH(socketed with no other stats) on my main as well and do about 1300 LoH if I ever get stuck at a tough spot, and also get another ring if i wanted for an additional 200 LoH for decently cheap. And yes, it makes a HUGE difference. Obviously Act 2 is different from Act 3, but currently going through Act 2 with far worse stats than you minus LoH, my big LoH numbers let me face tank desecrater/molten/plague mobs if I wanted to, it just makes me so nervous seeing my hp doing those HUGE swings so fast, and any CC makes me die instantly. I can literally die in less than a second if my LoH quit working for that small moment in time.
So, TLDR: Get more LoH. 300 is one star amethyst in a socketed weapon. Some weapons(obviously very expensive) can do 900 LoH with nothing else. So no, 1k LoH is not only attainable, but I would say for Act 3, it's probably mandantory.

@charger, first i want to thank you for posting your gear/stats and also for REMINDING me to take another look at it,, i took a good look at your stats and gear and was confused at first because my stats were a little bit better than yours but were very similar, even using the same build except i have resolve instead of transcendence. i also have 500 more LoHit than you yet i was having a way harder time in act 3 it seemed as compared to you.
what i failed to realize was your block%. it was at 33% as compared to my 20%. unless my memory fails me i think I've read in this thread someone saying that block% is not as important on a shield for a monk as resistance. that is definitely false for me and my lazy playstyle. i switched out my 79AR 58FireR 20% block for a 25% block 57fireR, got a helm of command and justice lantern for a total of 44% block. my AR with OwE went from 800-900 to 700-800 but now with the extra block% i can pretty much FoT into mobs in Act3 and hold down left click while watching TV spamming serenity and BoH. pretty much standing in arcane desecrate poison etc i never die. i do die to the occasional times when the elites explode upon death and i'm still standing in their affixes with nothing to proc my LoHit and I've yet to realized the elites are all dead lol.
in conclusion. if anyone plays A3 while watching tv, block% is pretty mandatory. don't neglect it.

Sweeping wind used to proc combination strike, which made it useable imho. Seems it doesn't anymore (1.03? didn't see it in the patchnotes).. anyone else notice this?

Stupid question, but if I have 500 LoH on one weapon and I dual wield, I'll only get 500 hp every two hits (for each hit with the weapon which has the 500 LoH), right?

No, LoH is a global stat like dex, crit, crit dmg, etc.
