exalted soul confuses me as i almost never reach max 150 spirit. i always spend it before. i guess unless im aware of a certain harder fight i need more spirit for i might save

I have a 14 level monk. I'm just enjoying the game, not trying to rush through it.

Anyhow, this is the current build I use:

I was using a version that used crippling wave where I'd run into the middle of a fight and debuff, plus I removed Fleet Foot in favor of increased spirit. He lost the quickness of my current build, and I just found the monk to be more satisfying when he was more, well, nimble and teleporty.

Holy Crap, I just got Inner Wind rune for Sweeping Wind, and it's incredible for tanky builds. By the time it runs low you usually have enough spirit to use it again and refresh the third stack, letting you keep it going the whole time you bust through a dungeon.

It's doubly good with Transcendance, Since your spirit regen is so high you can repeatedly use your mantra abilities, regaining a nice chunk of health and doubling its effect.

Current build is here. Can't wait to pick up the last Dashing Strike Glyph and get the dodge bonus.

This works pretty fine at the moment used to have Sweeping Wind in there instead of Breath of Heaven but it seems to go way better this way.

Also used Mantra of evasion before, but the healing one does way better so far I feel.


I'd really like to pick up Sweeping Wind or Exploding Palm again, but I don't think I can drop one of my current abilities and still do well.

You know what I love? Your build requires a level 42 character, but you're level 53. The skill system is so non-linear, and so many of the skills viable up until level 60.

Really no ally for a solo build? I'm finding it pretty much necessary to tank some blows. Especially those fat little explody demons. Sometimes a pack of them will burn through 2 or 3 of my air allies.

Up to nightmare, you can kill those before they explode if you don't try to run away from them. I don't know how their HP scales into Hell though.

Spirit regen is not a problem at all with this build at all, whether you're DW or 2-H, because skills 1-4 aren't spam skills.

Trying the build out as level 54 Act 2 solo, it's pretty good so far. I'll probably use it to tank in coop as well.

Hit level 55. It's even better with Faith in the Light with Blinding Flash.

I run with only Crippling wave for my spirit gen and it works quite well. Most of my dps is from crippling wave so the rest of my skills are used for healing/keeping people alive.

I love serenity + ascension rune. It's long enough where you can activate it and TP out. Just like paladin bubble+hearth in WoW!

what's all the hate for exalted soul? running through hell and nightmare as solo/pair i used a spirit sustain build. most of your dps comes from your generator ( i used the fist + holy DOT) with sweeping wind, and then i end up building the 250 spirit needed to heal my self back to full with a wave of light dump when i get hit-- this is what let me face roll pretty much every boss solo. things get tricky when i don't get good dodge RNG, but in that event i use divine shield/seven strikes to cover for it.

healing mantra w/ spirit regen + chant of resonance + templar = unlimited spirit and sustain through spending it

At 57, i upgraded wave of light to the pillar glyph.

hundred fists is the bread and butter, with dual wield to up your atk speed = more spirit regen. i didn't find too many atk speed items unfortunately, but its the best stat next to a mix of vit/dex. i ran a bit high on vit because i had a tank build for my friend, but it lets you take some hits in nm/hell giving you the chance to dodge and heal to full more.

the BEST thing about hundred fists with certain glyphs, like the DOT one, is it has a mini knock back--you can keep foes from even touching you by positioning right and knocking the hordes back.

wave of light can be replaced with the stun kick in nm, but on hell it doesn't work on bosses much(?) and its not as effective for a heal dump with the cheap cost in pinches. the good thing about wave of light is it knocks foes back, letting you regen, wait for CDs, etc.

sweeping wind is a must for bosses, and i felt the spirit regen version didn't make much of a difference with the already high regen your shit gives you. only piece of gear that gave me some regen was a monk helm. the more the better this builds effectiveness goes. its kind of a glass cannon in some situations, but it worked for me, especially on asmodan runs.

the regen mantra is great, i usually pop it in fights since its cheap, and you have lots of spirit to deal with. it goes without saying, the passive spirit regen is godly for this build.

serenity is your 'oh shit button' but i usually use it on cooldown to mitigate damage. and in the right scenarios, it will be blasting foes around you for your full HP if you absorb enough damage. the heal glyphed version has its pluses too, sometimes i change em out.

Awesome, thanks. I've been curious about builds with exalted soul but not many seem to use it.
My Monk is only 38 right now, so I'll obviously be missing the Hundred Fists rune for a bit but I'm excited to try this out anyway.
I also really like that it uses both Transcendence and Chant of Resonance, two of my favorite passives so far.

Seems so far nearly every ability is used by some player. Does this mean it doesn't really matter which stuff you use, as long as it's not too one-sided? Or will time tell which abilities/builds offer the best setup (in certain situations)?

Edit: My passives are the gain hp/spirit used, +2 spirit regen when mantra is up, and all resistances = your highest resistance. I have 40% resistances to everything since physical resistance is easy as all hell to find, and on top of that 50% dmg reduction from armor, have a fist wep that I got off the AH for 6000 gold that must have been listed accidentally since it's 203dps and has nice stats and a shield.

1-4 Skills are the AOE heal with rune that gives increased spirit for 5secs after use, kick with stun rune (when I'm playing cautiously I have the immunity for 3s+heal rune instead), mystic ally spirit rune, healing mantra w/ spirit rune (though as long as you use the dodge or healing mantra it doesn't matter too much)

Primary/secondary skills are way of the hundred fists w/ fists of fury rune b/c I like that you get the small leap on first punch, way of light w/ explosive light rune absolutely destroys EVERYTHING and heals you for a shit ton.

Spam your 1 skill when it comes off CD, keep ally up, keep mantra up and keep the 3s bonus up when under heavy dmg and use explosive light if you need the AOE/healing (it heals for a shit ton)

So am i just using dashing strike wrong or is it messed up? Sometimes i end up dashing like 2 feet forward, instead of where I want to go. Am I just doing it wrong? Do you have to click and hold or something?
