Just updated my shield with around the same stats + 5 % crit chance for about 300k; the additional cyclones probably helped a lot, but had no deaths and was able to get 5 stacks before killing diablo.
guess i ll save up for the new shenglong set now... ./sigh so expensive

What are your opinions on using Shaefer's Hammer? The lightning effect can trigger up to 50% and can crit. The crits proc Sweeping Wind/Cyclone which also does lightning damage so Shaefer's Hammer buffs its damage. Not to mention the damage buff for lightning fist as well. But do you think it would be more viable than Won Kim Lau?
|
I got a cheap Won Khim Lau* for my offhand, and the damage boost is surprisingly noticeable. However, the dmg on the Hammer is really low, and it has no main stat, crit damage or life steal. I'd expect them to be really cheap, and thus a good option for a lightning monk on a budget, but rares will be better.
*250dex, 100vit, lifesteal, 660dps, 21%+6% for 500k. It works for both FoT and the cyclone procs, but I don't know if it works for the actual sweeping wind or the air ally.

I looted a Flying dragon 1250dps 600loh 300 dext and the double attack speed proc <3
I can farm act 4 easily now :D so happy

is there a video of the shenlong fist set ball of energy? i sorta wanna blow a few hundred mil for some decent socketed shenlongs but only if the hadouken is actually worth it

I'd like to stay on daibo probably, but what is current trend? Are there some new skill combinations that are required to go through act 3/4 or just very powerful to use? Thanks in advance. http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/BackAndForth-2296/hero/781496
New trending build is http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/neurawr-1324/hero/947713 ( You can swap Evasion with Hard target with Overwave if you're farming the act easily ) With Crit and LoH as main stats and it should be pretty smooth, I farm A4 quite easily, I might need some more res but but I'm generally playing with a barb friend so war cry makes it easier

the new build right now is subbing serenity for sss because it's pretty much a 1mil+ damage aoe if your damage and cc/cd stats are remotely decent
|
I've soloed up through Iskatu on Inferno with this build. This build focuses on doing ridiculous AoE damage while still being fairly tanky.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/NateNEO-1724/hero/8218132
The only things that give me trouble are desecrator + CC of some type. Other than that I can wail on just about anything and tank just about anything.
SCORE! Killed Diablo and beat the game!!!

To all the monks out there: I found this piece a couple of days ago and would like to give it to a fellow TLer that is financially fluid enough (only ingame gold ) to pay for it:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/B7WHS.jpg) Obv the whole thing doesn't come that cheap, since it's better than anything currently available on the AH for a fire-res stacking monk.
Anybody interested or does anybody know someone that might be interested?

Monks as a class just suck. At higher gear levels there is almost no incentive to run anything other than one build with the exact same runes with one somewhat optional skill.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#akYSXg!XUa!aaccbY
FoT-thunderclap. Gives you mobility, high spirit generation, high LoH/lifesteal, AoE dps, and an interrupt. Every other spirit generator/rune just doesn't bring enough.
SW-cyclone. This skill when charged increases single target DPS by a fair amount, but on mobs can provide half or more of your damage. However the real kicker is that because it only checks weapon damage when cast, temporary buffs can enhance the damage significantly. DPSS is extremely high on this skill if you can keep it up for a relatively long period of time. No %'s here, but it's guaranteed to be higher than the heaven buff.
BoH-wrath 15% more damage. Heal is helpful, but that's not the reason you take it. 15% more damage, 25 spirit, 45 seconds.
MoC-overawe. Gives the highest DPSS by far after the other skills are up. Spamming this mantra provides 19.3% more damage. Requires a minimum of 50spirit/3 secs, or ~2.77 attacks per second with FoT to keep up.
Blind-faith. 30% more damage for 3 seconds on a 15 second cooldown. See sweeping wind.
Serenity - Invulnerability for 4s. Almost a must have, otherwise some bad affix combos/mistakes can kill you almost regardless of gear level. SSS can be used as a replacement if you don't feel invuln is necessary for a full 4s.
Passives.
STI and OWE are almost mandatory. dex-> armor and freedom when gearing, especially when aiming for higher end pieces is far too good.
This leaves ONE slot, on passives for us to use. Viable options for solo are basically resolve, or fleet footed. Cooldown almost doesn't matter because that affects our defensive skills, our offensive is spirit bound with the exception of SSS. Of the only 2 offensive passives, one requires a party, and I'm not sure 8% more damage makes up for 10% movement speed, especially when you get to the point where act 3 trash gets 1-2 shot by criticals.
I think this was just a rant about how because of spirit limitations, unless you're running 2.0+base aspd, you really can't save up enough spirit to use skills offensively when so much damage is based off you just holding down left click while spamming overawe that with the exception of SSS, it's just not worth spending spirit on expensive skills instead.
|
I agree. Spec options (lol, what options) are non-existent, unless you want to be a token monk that operates at less than half the efficiency of the only spec that's viable. That's part of the reason I've become so jaded with the monk class (and the game) lately.
I just want one other spec that is different yet viable (or close enough), but there isn't any.
|
Im playing around with SSS instead of blinding, Its fun and im going to try to swap some more stuff around. The patch did open up the specs abit, play around with em!
|
I think the big problem with monk gameplay is that it's not engaging. Basically every single monk skill with the exception of spirit generator in the standard build is a buff. SW, heaven, serenity, mantra, blind are all essentially passive skills(I know blind is a CC, but it's primarily used as a buff for SW at higher gear levels). Put buffs on, left click til stuff dies.
I think every other class I've played has significantly more engaging gameplay. Even WW barbs, which are shoehorned into a build like us, at least go vroom vroom in addition to scaling significantly better with gear.
|
I've been reading this forum and appreciate the builds/discussion. I just recently beat A2 Inferno and started up A3 but am having a really hard time just at the very beginning. I was hoping for some input on gear improvement. My second ring is pretty bad and I know I need to replace that but what other slots.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Gekoratel-1577/hero/3401245.
Thanks for the input.

The easy fix would be to just give every Monk generator the same attack speed bonus FoT gets I think. For Blizz to say WW barbs with intsa-rage-fill is ok while quickening-bug (back in the day) is not just seems unfair.

dex on boots can roll up to 300, and 50 AR is not particularly high. Vit is actually a low priority roll on boots, much more important to get a high dex roll+double resists, with vit secondary for monks anyways.

@ Geko
Your HP is terribly low. 16k HP is just not enough for act 3 imo. I would shoot for a minimum of 30k, just to be able to take a big hit or two. On top of that you need more life on hit, and probably more attack speed to make the LoH more effective.
With those things considered, I would start with your weapon. I've been watching the fist weapon market lately on NA server and I've found more than a few fist weapons with 900~ DPS, 700 LoH, 100+VIT go for less than a mill. Just watch the market for it a bit refreshing for time remaining until something good and affordable comes up.
Beyond that, you are stacking DEX heavily on chest and leg armor which is where VIT can roll the highest. I would search filter for 200 base VIT, phys resist, and maybe a few sockets, at the bare minimum on chest and pants. This will drag your total dex down a notch, which is currently at a respectable amount, but afterward you can aim for higher DEX shoulders/belts/etc. with more DEX on them.
Lastly, consider swapping bladestorm in for cyclone rune on your sweeping wind. You don't have the crit chance or the attack speed to make the cyclones worth more than 15% raw damage from bladestorm. Personally, I like the master of wind rune too when I'm feeling mindless as I can blow more spirit on Overawe spam and not worry as much about constantly finding something to hit when jumping from pack to pack.
GLHF Sir!

Thanks for the input Interneting, it knew there was going to be a gap between A2 and A3 but didn't expect it to be this large, A2 wasn't too difficult but got pummeled in A3. I'll start saving towards a weapon and take those considerations about increasing VIT via Armor/Pants.
